Moderator's Report

Another strong drive by John Hammonds to claim his fourth win of the season. Phil Thornton charged through the field to a fine second place and Dave Curtis grabbed his first podium of the season.

No incident reports once again so the results stand.

Well done John. In a class of your own tonight.  Had a good race with Dave Curtis, managed to pressurize him into a mistake and steal second place from him on the last few laps.  Good driving Dave, it would have been very hard to pass you if you hadn't made that slight mistake.

Don't know why IGOR was down but everyone (except Axel??) seemed to connect OK.  I trust the connection was good, I didn't notice any lag.

I don't know how I got onto the track at all. I endlessly tried every IP address listed in the topic, plus a few random numbers suggested by my Magic Eight Ball, only to get the "Timed out connections" error message. I typed the password in lowercase, UPPERCASE, Mandarin, and Cyrillic. That didn't help either. Then with about 25 minutes to go in qualifying I was bounced onto the track, fortunately in the right car and with the 60fps box checked. I'll sure be happy when IGOR is restored to life.

Practice had gone pretty well during the previous two weeks. It seemed, however, that it would be only a matter of time before I would wind up on my roof after hitting that long, low, narrow ridge just beyond T3. So I thought I'd just dog it with full tanks in qualifying, take it easy until the tires warmed up, and hope for the best. I was barely surprised to see that a 1:12.05 in qualifying --- 5/100ths off a PB --- didn't put me higher than 8th of 9. You guys are nothing if not tough.  Smiley

Through mystical processes as yet unrevealed to me, I somehow found myself running 4th overall at the end of L7. I quickly lost a spot, but recovered 4th on L19 and held it until I finally screwed up T1 on L33 and Billy overtook me. I finished 5th, not because I'm fast but because 1) I didn't make as many mistakes as I usually do and 2) I had a solid connection. At my level you're generally happy with what you can get. I am. I think it's my best league finish to date.

Happy holidays to all. See you at Snetterton in the new year.

I was a little careless using a fresh installed Linux on a pc made of some spare parts, but it had worked ok this afternoon.
But when I went on the grid, I had a multiple screen full of small desktops...

Shame, as we had a pretty narrow pack on the grid Roll Eyes

The bad bits - I was watching traffic & just forgot to downshift into T3 on lap one, hit the ramped bank & rocket launched. Lost track & spun off the barriers twice. First time I collected Fran & ended stop still in front of Jack on the second occasion. Sorry guys. The bits in between were OK including a PB in equally. Overtakes were quite a challenge, took several laps to pass Jacks BRM which was not so quick in the twisty section but accelerated well on the straights. Well done to the guys at the front, especially John.

It was a bit of a bummer to see Cookie disappear off the grid and Dave R crash out after 18 laps. Sad Our qualifying times were so very close and I was looking forwards to a great battle. This season is almost a top 10 tracks for me, having driven all of them quite recently so I had a good set up available from the off.

It ended up being a bit of a lonely race with Dave C and Phil having a good battle behind but inevitably slowing each others progress giving me the breathing space I needed to take it easy towards the closing stages of the race. Made a number of unforced errors hitting the tyres a few times and my wheel definitely wasn't pointing straight ahead when the car was, so dropped back a second or so per lap for the last quarter of the race to make sure I brought it home without wrapping it around the scenery.

Shame the grid was a bit thin on the ground with a few regulars missing. Hope we see some fuller grids for 2018.

See you all for Snetterton in the new year, a bit early I know but... Merry Christmas everyone and a Happy New Year.

TTFN
John.

Very bad race for me :
I broke the Oldsmobile Repco after 7 or 8 laps, pushing hard trying to follow Jeep
Then after reset and stop and go, I restarted 6th and was 3rd when Pepe, Francesco and Phil had some troubles.
But on lap19, I made a big mistake and lost a wheel; That ended my race.

It's definitively clear John is the best of us at equal level of cars. (Only Gareth and Axel could be quicker sometimes).
Now I have to save my 2nd position for the championship. It will not be easy against Phil and Dave C.

Phil is the one to look out for;  he's already had 2x non-scoring rounds, so will add all earned points to his total.
He'll be leap-frogging me at any moment!

Cheers,
Dave.
