Struggled with these cars in the past, and this season seems to continue the tradition.

Picked the Opel for the first race. Thought I had tamed its end swapping tendencies offline, but still lost it under braking several times in pre race praccy + qual.    Off the pace and down in midfield at the start.

Got reasonably well off the line, but a fishtailing Clive ahead forced me to back off, allowing Kurt past.  Few corners later, going into the uphill lefthander, Kurt started to lose the rear.  I would have avoided him, if not for a whack on the inside from an overzealous Beemer, which sent me wide and straight into the side of Kurt.  Sorry about that Kurt; no way of avoiding it.  I ended up sideways, parked in the gravel and down to 9th when I got going again.  Kurt waited and let me past, although it was no fault of his, but couldn't communicate that under the circumstances.

Caught Bill and tried a pass at the end of the straight, but damn near lost it when the Opel tried to mug me once again. Bill apparently let me past - thanks Bill, that wasn't called for.  Passed a recovering Tony right after and thus up to 6th.   Remaining cars in front continued to pull away, and gap behind was growing too, so most of the race was utterly lonely.  Hard to keep up concentration and motivation.

At the start of the final lap, I saw puffs of smoke that quickly grew denser, with a crippled Roger at the end.  Went past and thus finished a not quite deserved 5th.

Mayhem at T1 on lap 1 of race 2; got in a squeeze between Ziu & Matt, and then had to navigate around a reversed Geoffers. With the infernal Nissans around, you can't hear your own thoughts, let alone your own engine noise.  Lost more places, when I realized I was in 1st, at 9500 rpm and going nowhere..  Roll Eyes   Looked for a way past Tony, but didn't find one until the end of the straight, when I slipped in front with some late braking.

Hunted down Clive over a number of laps, only to have Matt add to the confusion, by rejoining between us, just as I was getting close to Clive. Next lap, Clive had a moment and we both slipped past.  More (very) late braking at the end of the straight saw me past Matt, and then needed several very concentrated laps to build a small gap of 2 secs.  Then my mirrors went empty and gap jumped to 6 secs, when Matt went off out of sight.  Up ahead, Ziu was still moving away, so just focused on hanging on to 2nd.

Grats to podium in race 1, and to Ziu & Matt in race 2.  Not sure I quite buy Ziu's claims about the car doing it all - the Porker I tried wasn't nearly that fast...  Wink  (And grats to Ziu for pulling all this off under very difficult conditions!!)

Can only speak for myself, but would really appreciate just 5 minutes worth of practice in race 2, to adjust to another car, instead of jumping straight to an already halved qual session.  I need a fair few laps to get into my stride, and was nowhere near my pb with the Beemer (2:00.49).

Clive and others. Some of the cars have up to four available tyre makes/types. it's worth investigating  Wink shifty whistling

Had busy day, so I chose my third choice car. Set my fastest time by about 5 seconds in practice but I just couldn't match that in qualifying or the race. First few laps were OK but then concentration flagged and I had a number offs and spins.

Decided to give Race 2 a miss and have an early night. Tried to Chat my intention to Tony so as Race 2 would not be held up waiting for me but apparently confused him. Sorry Tony but I thought it needed to be short as time between Races could have been too short for me to consider a better form of message!  wheelchair rockon

That pre-supposes that I will find the time/inclination to test all the available track/car/tyre/setup parameters for each race!

TBH not very likely  Roll Eyes.

I barely find time to do any serious pre race practice these days, and I generally rely on the 20-30 mins before the race to get myself organised. Which probably explains the multitude of errors and mistakes that I make  Undecided.
Before Erling, Matt and Geoffers jump on me for fishing for lap times lol, I confess that sometimes I do find an odd 30 mins during the week when I can actually do some pre race practice and set up testing.

Cool

Both races in the Skyline.
First one on Goodyears. Surprisingly good praccy and quali. After a good start I was in 4th or 5th position
when I lost the car and dropped to last place. Remainder of the race was one to forget.

Without having tested other tyres I decided spontaneously to switch to Michelin historic and had a new pb in my
only timed lap in quali. Again a good start but after some slight mistakes I dropped to last. Realized that the tyres were much more heating up than the Goodyears but could arrange with that and came in a good mood battling with Tony for the remainder of the race.
Good fun!

With the miserable weather on Sunday I thought it would be a good chance to try out all the cars for this race. Started with the BMW which I already had a setup for, however it was only then that I realised there were three tyre choices for the car. So instead of testing all the cars, all I managed was to try out the different tyres on the BMW, so that was the car I was destined to use. Of the tyres the Dunlops & Dunlop Historics seemed marginally faster than the Goodyears, & as they had the least wear & appeared to have the most stable handling I went with the Historics.

Got a good start to race 1 but got a bit out of shape exiting T2 & Ziu went past & gradually pulled away over the opening laps. Equally I was edging away from Rog, Clive & Matt behind. Looked set for a lonely run to 2nd until lap 5 when I came across Zui spun at T10 & I was in the lead. Ziu soon caught up & I expected him to find a way past but he then spun again leaving me with a comfortable lead & an undeserved win.

Got an even better start to race 2 & led easily down to T1 where once again I discovered that treading on the clutch pedal does not do a very good job of stopping the car! Roll Eyes  Even though I did succeed in finding the correct stopping pedal & got down through the gears, the car was still going too fast to make the corner & I spun. Sorry to those who got involved, I was going to press 'Esc' but by then everyone had either found a way around or hit me, so I didn't see much point! wacko

Proceeded to chase back through the field, which went OK to start with, but when I caught Clive I had to brake mid-corner to avoid running into him & promptly spun again. Got going, caught & passed Clive this time only to spin at the final turn into the pit wall. cursing Got underway again but now had a flat front tyre, so had to crawl slowly to the pits for new tyres. Noticed there was some damage to repair, but cancelled that, rejoined, got to T1/2 & the car just wanted to swap ends. This happened at every subsequent corner, suspension broken, so decided to pull into the pits & retire as I was so far behind by now that I was never going to make up any more places.

Congrats to the other podium mounters.  clap clap clap

Cya all at Daytona.  thumbup2
