Yesterday the LMC championship is ended for my possibility, it s a question between Erling and Geoffers. It s impossible recover this difference with this cars and with this kind of races. It s clare that whitout the disaster of Daytona i was thinking an other thing now and it s clare that the best car is Ferrari 330/P4 because is agile and save tyre. My championship is ended also because at Daytona i burn a Ferrari 330/P4 and yesterday i choice Ford just to try something of different also if i knew that was impossible win because weight and tyre wear, already after 5 laps i had some difficult to keep my car anyway  2:36,3 with Ford on qualy not is so bad but the race was hard and i m not was fine. At this point i can hope to win some Class championship, maybe if Erling will permit to me  Roll Eyes

Grats Erling, Grats Clive................Geoffers yesterday skip in my mind the idea to not change tyre but i not had courage

As I posted earlier I had no time for any practice for this race, in fact I only downloaded the track file when the server decided that I did not have Sebring67. OK, so the track is just about the same as most other versions and did not require a great deal of learning, although some areas were slightly different.
With no experience of these cars except for the race at Daytona, I scanned the list of Porkers for what might be suitable. The 908K looked fast and with 2 long straights it might be a good candidate, but when I tried a few laps I found that it had terminal understeer that I could not solve in the setup.
So, dumped the Porker and opted for a Fezza, hoping that it would be more driver friendly. Not really, I discovered. But at least some adjustments to the setup began to show improvement. Right up until the start of qualifying I was tweaking the setup and learning how to drive the car. I was keen to get in as many laps as possible during quali to find my way with the car and kept running right up to the start of the race.
Pitstop was going to be simple, start with full tank and see how far we can get, then decide if I need new tyres.
Lap 1 and I was promoted to 3rd when geoffers ran wide, I was just able to hold on to Erling and Ziu for a lap, but once they had warmed their tyres they pulled away and I was left watching my mirrors for Bob and Matt...and Geoffers who would surely be "on a mission".

My car was far from ideal but at least driveable at sensible speeds. I managed to keep the thing on the track ( most of the time) and concentrated on avoiding big mistakes. When Geoffers caught me I did not fight as it would have been very one sided and I allowed him a free pass. Maybe it was my steady pace or long gearing to avoid wheelspin, but I was able to run to Lap 17 before the pitstop and that leapfrogged me into a false lead for several laps, but the 30+ second buffer was not enough to take on fuel and get back out to bother the leaders.
The last 6 laps looked like being a lonely run to a 4th place until I suddenly found myself in 3rd with Geoffers in the pits!!

I had not taken new tyres and at around lap 20 things got very interesting and challenging, but it would appear that the mag alloy rims from Maranello actually provide quite good traction if treated with a little respect.
TBH I did not even expect to finish this race, so to drag myself home in 3rd and a taste of Champagne was a bonus.

Grats to Erling and Ziu and tough luck Geoffers on running out of rubber.

Had to stop, room started to spin bout of vertigo, see you guys next race, have a good one.

That doesn't sound good Roger, hope you're ok and that it's nothing serious!

My back is still in very bad shape, so couldn't afford to test all the cars.  With the twisty infield, and all the 90º turns, I surmised a nimble car would be suitable, and went straight for the Ferraris. Tested the 330 P4 & 412, with the former being notably faster, so it was the natural choice.

Surprised to come online in pre-race praccy, and find my laptimes right 'up there' with the fast boys, in faster class cars no less.  Ziu was sandbagging of course; I had no doubt he would be much quicker once it got serious. Genuinely puzzled then, when far into qual I was still ahead of him.  As he usually does when pressed however, he dug out a few more rabbits from his hat and pipped my time. Geoffers was untouchable on pole.

Getting these cars quick off the line is a black art I've yet to master. Tried several times in offline praccy, without ever finding the magic formula.  Start went better than I could have hoped for though, when Geoffers started fishtailing, allowing me to pass, and then the grid pos gave me the better line into T1, so I slipped past Ziu too, to grab the lead.  Keeping it would be difficult though, and I basically drove my wheelnuts off for the first half. Gap to Ziu seesawed between 3 & 4 secs, depending on who had a good or bad lap.  Around lap 9, Ziu disappeared from view, and next the gap was 9 secs.  Didn't know if he had gone off, or went for an early pit.

Pitted at the end of lap 11 myself, for new tyres and fuel. Clive grabbed the lead, and Geoffers shot past just as I exited. Found him recovering from a spin at T3 and slipped past.  Race was on for the following laps.  Given his car, I expected him to blast by down the straights, but it never happened.  Maybe the slowest class isn't quite so slow after all ?   I gradually eased away from Geoffers.  Clive stayed out just long enough to have me worry, but eventually he did pit and I got the lead back.  Gap to Geoffers was 12 secs and increasing, so with around 5 laps to go, I could ease off enough to avoid stupid mistakes.

Grats to Ziu & Clive for completing the podium.

Ziu, I think you're far too pessimistic.  You've had one bad result in the overall championship, which is nullified by the scoring system.  With regards to me 'allowing' you a class championship; we're completely tied for points in the two classes we've raced in, so I could very well ask the same of you...  Wink

Yes, sorry to hear that Rog, wife had it a few years ago, not nice.

As I had trouble trying to get it to work at Daytona, I thought I would give the 917 another go. Here it seemed much easier to drive & a couple more setup tweeks in practice made it even better & was very happy with the 2.35 in qually. Unlike Erling I had no problem getting the car off the line in practice so was quite confident of a good start.  laugh

Predicably start went tits-up when the wheels spun up & got the car sideways, had to lift & Erling & Ziu went past. At T3 I think I did my favourite trick of pressing the clutch instead of the brake & overshot the corner, at T4 I tangled with Matt & Kurt & spun onto the grass, so had gone from pole to dead last within a quarter of a lap  Roll Eyes. 917 power quickly got me up to 3rd & closing on Erling & Ziu which became 2nd when Ziu pitted. Pitted myself at the end of lap 10 & decided not to change tyres hoping I would still be fast enough on old tyres to outpace Erling & Ziu. Was happy to get ahead of Erling after he pitted but then made a mistake at T3 & let him past.

It soon became clear that not changing tyres was a mistake & it became more & more difficult to stop the car. After overshooting 3 successive corners I decided to pit again for tyres & compounded my time loss by changing down to 1st too early at pit entry & spinning off again. Rejoined in 4th behind Clive but was too far behind to make up any places, so just drove for a finish & was surprised to do one lap in the 2.34s, quicker than my pole time.

Congrats to Erling, Ziu & Clive.  clap clap

Pretty much a non report for me.  Got a good start and was by myself mostly untill about lap 8 when my computer crashed to desktop.  Slammed the brakes on and got the mouse to bring GTL back up.  Found myself just at the start of the big sweeper before S/F straight.  Took off again but now at every corner had the pulsing jittery type presentation.  Decided I would try to hang in there, pitted early on lap 10.  I guess the 60 second pit stop settled the video card down or whatever the problem was.  No problem after that for the rest of the race until the last lap  when after the S curves it started the blinking again even on the straight.  Missed my braking point entering the hard right and sailed off into cyberspace and a DNF.  Maybe time to get the Shop Vac out and blow the dust out of the old CPU.
Grats to the podium and sorreys to those that had bad luck.  See you all at Spa...........

Geoffers I think that you did a mistake to return to change new tyre for two reasons 1 my car was going to finish tyre 2 your Porsche was most fast than Ford on straights just I could have more traction and if I could pass anyway Clive was enough far to at 6 laps to go.
I have a rule, never change idea when I take decision, you did and you lost podium, sorry Geoffers

I also forgot to ask how you were now Roger?

Good news as your car did not appear on the starting grid you will not be penalised a drive in that car class.

Hope your feeling better soon and same applies to Mrs Thomas.
