10 seconds a lap slower -> takes 2nd place. Classic Dom Enduro in a nutshell  Cheesy.

Of course that would not have happened but for all the bad luck all around.

Do love Porto, and the Healey was a joy to drive here.

Lots of practice saw my laptimes drop, culminating in a one-off 2:12.3 lap. Didn't think I could repeat it, but somehow found a little extra, to set the sub 2:12 lap in qual.  Surprised neither Geoffers nor Ziu challenged that.  All in vain though, as my poor start saw me losing two places.

Lost another at the start of the straight, when Ziu slipped past. Bad went to total mayhem at the end of the straight on L1, when someone behind me confused endurance with demolition derby. Slammed into me, pushing me into Ziu and spinning me round.  In my haste to get going, I got in the way of Kurt; apologies for that, my normal careful self was replaced with red mist.  Contact with Kurt spun me round again, and I was down to 9th when I rejoined (getting in Tony's way  Roll Eyes).

Quickly got through to 4th - a couple of drivers were kind enough to simply wave me through; thanks guys, regrettably I couldn't flash a 'thank you', as my lights were busted.
Slowly reeled in Ziu over a number of laps.  When I caught him, we also caught Geoffers, with Clive a little further up the road, so race still seemed open.  Ziu made a brilliant/daring pass on Geoffers through the kamikaze chicane before the start/finish.  Clive retired and I was looking for a way past Geoffers, when little over a lap later the curse of being too close to a car in front struck. Momentarily lost the rear, slammed into the barriers, killing the car.  That placed an easy victory in the lap of my worst competitor; not what I had hoped for the evening  Undecided

Still grats to Ziu on winning and to the rest of the podium and finishers.  Commiserations to the rest who met with misfortune.

In contrast to Erling, I don't like this track & as I said before I have never been quick on it. Fortunate, I think, to get 2nd on the grid although way off of Erling's alien time. Shocked

Got a good start & took the lead as Erling was well slow off the line & had Clive on my tail for the first 3-4 laps with Ziu & a delayed Erling some 10s or so back. Started to open a gap on Clive until I ran wide across the S/F line about the 6th lap & clouted the barrier, spinning to a halt. Clive went past & I just managed to rejoin before Ziu & Erling came along.

Next lap approaching the pit entrance chicane I noticed Clive broadside across the track, braked in avoidance just as he hit 'Esc' which allowed Ziu to nip past, so now I was the meat in a Ziu-Erling sandwich. blink Two laps later I caught a quick glimpse of Erling going into the barrier at T3 leaving Ziu & I well ahead of a rapidly dwindling field. Closed the gap to Ziu over the next couple of laps, but that was as far as it went, as I was caught out by Ziu slowing to pit, had to jump on the brakes but still bumped into him & finished up in the pit entrance myself. Then got well flustered trying to rejoin, forgot about my clutch pedal, went for the keyboard & mistakenly hit 'Esc'!  Roll Eyes

Congrats to Ziu, Dom & Tony  clap clap clap & commiserations to all who fell by the wayside  Cry

Like Geoffers, this was not a favourite track for me. Thanks for the on-line setup Geffers, it was remarkably similar to what I already had evolved, maybe a click up or down in a few areas. The shocks were slightly stiffer, so I adopted that into my setup and it was a little better.
Erlings qualification time was somewhere in the impossible range for me! Just where he was finding 4-5 secs a lap over my own banzai lap is a total mystery  I Am Not Worthy  Even though I was running on full tanks to be sure I was comfortable with a heavy car, that does not account for the difference.

I did have a sneaky smirk when Erling bogged down at the start and I was able to slip past and hassle Geoffers for a few laps. When the gap suddenly extended back to the chasing pack, after the incident at the chicane I thought I would try and pressure Geoffers. But, there are not a lot of passing places at this track, unless the guy ahead makes a mistake... and Geoffers was not making any  Undecided. I also discovered that following very closely is tricky because picking apexes and braking points becomes more difficult and I left a few paint samples on the concrete walls.
I deliberately dropped back a little with the intention of just shadowing Geoffers, but he took advantage of the chance to relax into his driving and was beginning to ease away. Not too bothered, as it would be a long race and I was still finding places where I could go a few tenths quicker.  I could see that Ziu was chasing hard but if I kept things clean he was not gaining too much.
When I came across a recovering Geoffers it was a bit of a shock, as he had looked well in control. But never one to refuse a gift, I accepted the lead position. I was watching the gap on HUD for the next laps and it was clear that Geoffers, Ziu and Erling were in close company and might just slow each other a little.... I hoped.

Arnold and Mabel were demonstrating their excitement on the pitwall and that might have been a contributing factor to my accident at the pit entry chicane. I have spoken to Mabel since my demise and told her that no matter how excited she gets, she is not to remove her knickers and throw them onto the track They are too big and could constitute a hazard to low flying aircraft, but when spread across the windscreen of a 1950's sports car they are lethal!!!
I knew Geoffers. Ziu and Erling were just a few seconds back and would be arriving very quickly, so I was pounding the ESC key which appeared to be reluctant to let me go.

Grats to Ziu and all finishers. Getting to the flag here is a victory.

Just where he was finding 4-5 secs a lap over my own banzai lap is a total mystery  I Am Not Worthy  Even though I was running on full tanks to be sure I was comfortable with a heavy car, that does not account for the difference.

I was running as light as possible; 4 laps worth of fuel. If you compare my fastest race lap (with heavy fuel load); a 13.9 with your qual time; a 15.5, things are not so different.  Lots of practice got me closer to those elusive perfect laps. Can't say exactly how I did the 11.9 qual lap, as there's no replay.  My fastest offline; a 12.3 ironically doesn't look dramatic or particularly fast in the replay - just a very clean lap, where I'm VERY close to walls and sharp jutting corners in places, so treading a very fine line between success and catastrophe, but staying on the success side  Smiley
