Season 32 Privateers Trophy – Round 7 - Snetterton
Back home to Blighty (at least for some of us), we visit the flat ground of Norfolk. Our racetrack is Snetterton. Snetterton is a 1967 Formula Two rank track built, like Silverstone, on a former airfield with long flat straights & relatively quick corners including the brilliantly named “Bomb Hole”.
Note the Privateers division is run on Intermediate damage settings. Drivers are permitted 1 Shift R followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane within 2 laps. Failure to make a stop will result in a 30 second time penalty. If you require a stop & go on the final lap & are unable to complete a time penalty of 15 secs is added.
Driver lists and divisional rules can be found on the championship standings pageOnly reported incidents will be moderated, there is no Red Zone. The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings. Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line. Password: see above

My error was to imagine that the setup with the most fuel must have been the one I used previously, sadly this proved otherwise and fuel ran out at pro distance. I wondered why I had been able to race with the tail, still it was enjoyable while it lasted.
I suppose this could be called a rookie mistake if it weren't for setups from a dozen years ago, so perhaps it is a faded never-was mistake. I was a promising newcomer once, the mod's race report said so it must have been true!
Is it under consideration to have a rookie 65s again, in an attempt to to improve grid numbers? It might be optimistic for an almost twenty year old game, however the installation wizards have made it as easy as it could be hoped to install and the graphics still hold up.

1st off, sincere apolgies to Pepe for the last lap incident. I completely cocked up Riches and after extracting myself from the haybales could see Bastian closing fast on Pribluda but completely failed to see you (I'll plead colour blindness as your name merged into the background on the display). When you suddenly appeared beside me it scared me half to death. Sorry all my fault.
Somehow qualified in 2nd despite not managing a clean lap (Due to my own ineptitude not traffic).
Got a clean start and set about making my presence known to Axel at every opportunity. He was murdering me from the start of the Norwich Straight until the Esses but I was able to get back on his tail by Sear corner only to lose it all and have to start all over again. Eventually as we began to come across the tail of the field I was able to take my chance when a car hit the bridge at the Esses and Axel took avoiding action and I slipped through.
Then we had a great battle right up until the start of the last lap, occasionally I managed to pull out about 100yds only to make a small mistake or Axel put in a really fast lap and he was back on my tail. Finally with a few laps to go I completely screwed up the Hairpin and went from 1st to 3rd instead of 2nd on the exit and Axel was through. Gave chase but it was going to need a mistake from Axel to allow me to retake the lead. Instead it was me who messed up starting the last lap when I missed my braking point into Riches so ended up a long way behind by the flag.
Again Sorry Pepe I can't apologise enough, just a rush of blood and not paying attention on my part.
Congrats to all finishers. and commiserations to those who had issues. (Mechanical or internet related).
TTFN John.

No apologies necessary at all, John. I was simply grinding my way to the end in my customary position of "Dead Last But Finished." When I saw the yellow flag and then you off to the left, I slowed as much as I could. We didn't even touch. I like these abandoned airfield tracks. I should have done better here but preparations for an upcoming motorcycle trip from the top to the bottom of South America had made my customary diligent practice schedule a little dented. Still, I cranked out four PBs in one training session earlier this morning and was feeling better about my chances. Then just minutes before qualifying ended I changed the gearing ratio of 4th two clicks in the wrong direction. That necessitated my having to shift up to 5th unnecessarily, darkening my mood considerably. Still, I had a number of hard laps nose-to-tail with Jack and that for me was the best part of the race. If all goes as planned, I'll be joining the next race in Kyalami from my room in the Hotel Caribe in Cartagena, Colombia. No wheel and pedals for me on this trip. I'll be using a Sim Raceway SRW-S1 "wheel," a device guaranteed not to frighten my competition in the back of the pack.

Another race binned on the first lap. This one looks my fault by running into the back of David approaching T1. On looking at the replay he seemed to slow much sooner than I was expecting but no excuse for hitting a team mate. Most of us scrapping at the back got caught out at the hairpin & I managed to get ahead. A couple of laps before the end I span off unnecessarily & giving up 5th spot to David. Cookie, John & Bastian were getting great lap times at the front. I couldn't work out how to get below 1.27 even in the Brabham. Best of luck with the road trip Pepe, sounds awesome.

It was just a full Black Night Racing team story ... Yes, at the start I slowed down much sooner than I wanted because I was surprised by the "aggressive" start from Dave Curtis and I tried to avoid an accident .

After this incident at the start, I had big troubles to overtake Francesco. I tried several times to overtake him at the first braking point after the starting line and also at the end of the long straight.
But every times, Fran was going several times from right to left and from left to right (I suppose to limit the slipstream). I can't remember if it is allowed to do this several consecutive times or only one ? And every times when we approached a turn, he directly turned on the apex, only leaving me the grass to avoid the collision. After several laps, I considered I was in a perfect position to overtake him but Francesco didn't see me or didn't want to see me and we collided without big damages, I think.
I would suggest to Fran to drive with the view F10 if he can't correctly see in the rear windows.
I didn't want to report the incident, it will change nothing but Fran created one. That will be work for moderation.

Sorry to miss a great race at Snett. I can't wait to do another privateers race. I was at a kid's birthday party.
Congrats to Cookie, John and Bastian. See you at the next one hopefully.

Is not true that i'm gping left to right.I have always tried to mantain my usual line ,Momo racing allowing.I have had big problem with my racing wheel in this race.Anyway don't seem to me the best place to do an overtake, this curve(for me) must be taken all on the right to avoid the green.

Yes I agree it is not an easy place to overtake. But there are not many places to overtake at Snetterton when you drive a slow car (Cooper) even when you are 2 seconds a lap quicker.
And when you see another car almost side to side with your car, you have two possibilities :
1 - turn on the apex as usually...and there will be a collision with the other car if the other driver cannot go elsewhere (that was the case)
2 - slow down and carefully turn, leaving enough place.
By the way, I need to see the replay but I can't due to lack of pwd.

Last season,in a race at Mosport,i was penalized for an overtake done. The comtact was between the 2 front tires In another race at Zamdvort i have done 34 laps behind another car without the possibility to do a safe overtake. Can i blame the other pilot? In my opinion no,he have done his race defending his position. If the rule becames;when you have a car behind slow down we can,or i can, stop to race.
