Bastian is leading Tris and Axel in a battle for 3rd spot.
Approaching the corner to take them onto the straight Tris makes a move down the inside, Bastian is turning in but sees Tris approaching. Bastian aborts his line to the apex and has to slow in order to take a wider line through the corner. Axel who is following closely is caught out as Bastian takes a slightly wider line and slows.
This is extremely fortunate for Tris as he is unable to turn his car and actually runs right across the track onto the grass. Tris would have undoubtedly hit Bastian if he had not moved off line to give Tris room. Bastian might have been able to make the undercut on Tris if Axel had not got there first. Axel clips the rear of Bastian and spins him out.

This is a difficult incident to moderate.
There is no doubt that Bastian suffered, but did nothing wrong.
Axel might not have clipped Bastian if Bastian had not made room for Tris
Tris benefitted from the whole incident and yet he was the driver who initiated the chain of events and would have hit Bastian if Bastian had not been aware.

I cannot penalise Bastian, he did nothing wrong.
I cannot penalise Tris because, although he precipitated the incident, he did not make contact with anyone.
I could penalise Axel for rear ending Bastian, but that seems harsh as he was a victim of events ahead.
Therefore I am going to call it a Racing Incident, but with a warning to Tris to be careful with braking in the 55's

Lap 15
Clive has been following Fran's Slipstreamer for several laps and although Clive has the advantage through the corners he cannot match the speed of the Merc on the straights.
Through T2 Fran makes a small mistake and it allows Clive to get alongside running down to T3.
Clive is on the outside but Fran's greater speed pulls him slightly ahead and Clive tucks in behind.
Fran's speed causes him to miss the apex and he is running just inside the centre line, leaving an inviting gap on his inside. Clive is seduced into going for that gap.
Clive holds a tight line against the grass and gets right alongside Fran.
On the exit of the corner there is a coming together. After replaying this several times and from the perspective of both cars I think this was a Racing Incident.
At the exit of the corner Fran's car gets more grip and turns in just slightly. At the same moment Clive's car which is pushing really hard drifts out just a little.
Both cars are effectively within half of the road width at all times and if no-one had deviated then both would have emerged unscathed. But each car moved fractionally towards the other at the same time and any clearance evaporated. Fran suffered more because GPL always punishes the car on the outside.
I am inclined to call this a Racing Incident as it difficult to lay the blame at either driver. Clive was completely alongside and entitled to contest the corner. Although he did not stray from his own side of the track, Fran never vacated the inner half of the same track.

Astonishingly hard racing at Reims that.

I had a frustrating practice, just couldn't seem to find a tow from anyone but the car felt very good and steady under me.  I got very lucky at the start threading my way through trouble which seemed to affect a lot of other people.

I had a fantastic scrap with Clive and (I think) Doni in the middle of the race, until they dropped me (I hung myself out to dry on the long straight and they were gone).  Then Doni's engine went bang in a big way and I passed him (I felt very sorry for you chief, you were driving a blinder).

The last stage was a scrap with Phil in which he was just plain better and faster, but I was able to hang on to him by my fingertips sweating all the way.  On the last lap he made a small error and I was able to get back into his tow.  The car felt really good under braking so I chose to hang on to him down the long straight, try and pass him under braking and try and outdrag him to the line.  It worked.  Just.  By. THE. Narrowest. Margin.

Delighted with 7th.  Thank you all for such a great race!

Another Screen Freeze!! This time whilst sitting on the grid
I hope that my car did not cause any probs, and that my freeze also removed me from the server immediately.

If I cannot find the root cause of this problem, GPL looks like a waste of time for me.

I had some strange things happen:
- first my rig lost a screw in practice and I had no more throttle,
so I had to fix it, lying on the floor like a real mechanic under the car Grin
- there was lots of warp all the time an I read in chat that someone had joined with 36fps!? I will no longer allow joining via IP! 2guns
Good was that the server stood this challenge without crash.

- racing was mixed fun as I had big problems with braking in tow...
Sorry Bastian, but sometimes it is better to not use every chance to pass, as we were slower this way and Tris could catch us...  Tongue

Or not hittin me twice in the hairpin, would have a better chance on my third place...

I've loaded the chassis the drivers used into the token calculator spreadsheet.  For the next race the available tokens will be as declared in the table below (the table will also appear in the next race announcement).  The calculated values are automated but selecting the cars is a manual process so please check your tokens to make sure I haven't made a silly error.  There was no token overspend for this round so no one is disqualified.

Available Tokens:
Note: These are the tokens available to each driver before the 10 tokens are added for making the race start.

Yes it was close, 14 milliseconds. That's half a wheel at 158mph. Great racing and a deserved 7th place well done.

Absolute shocker for me. Struggled with car stability under braking & then ran into the corn field which is a cunningly disguised tar pit. 55s are not my favourite at the moment. Looks like Tim & Sam had the Black Night racing version of the Fangio / Moss train at the front. Well done guys.
Clive - I feel your frustration. The last Windows 10 update has generally improved my PC. I am wondering if something went astray when you set up GPL on your new system. Might be worth installing the whole game from scratch, segregate all the old files & see if that works. Quite a few people seem to be running w10 - so it is possible.

I had a great race. I knew the Lancia would be outclassed on the straights around here but I felt it's nimble handling through the fast sweepers and relatively decent brakes (for the mod!) might be able to compensate the mighty Merc's straight line grunt.

First half of the race, I had a grandstand seat enjoying Tim, Tris, Axel & Bastian vying for the lead. I was holding back in 5th, content to watch the action. That worked until I lost brakes at Muzon  Shocked, overshot and nearly lost the tow rejoining! Luckily with the guys battling hard up front I could catch up.

About half race distance, Tris had fallen back due to failing brakes at Muzon. Axel had overshot at Thillois and followed by Bastian getting a poor exit, I vaulted up to second place, but Tim in the SL Merc was almost 200 yards ahead  Undecided. I had to drive very hard through the sweepers to try to close that gap. Any larger gap and the tow would have been lost.

Somehow I did manage to catch up, mostly under braking I suspect and that set the scene for me and Tim battling for the lead for the rest of the race. With his slipstream, it worked well enough staying with him, but ducking out of it proved tricky, as I lost all advantage of speed and had to duck back inside the slipstream! I could see I was far better on the brakes, but I just couldn't get close enough and didn't want to risk a lunge in case I made a mess of it and took us both out. Tim would have simply powered past on the next straight anyway.

Tried as I might to harry Tim into a mistake, this is Tim we're talking about, that was unlikely to happen  Wink. I inherited the lead a couple of times after he ran wide at Bretelle Nord, but the rate at which he passed me on the back straight was somewhat dispiriting.

On the last lap I was in the lead, but when Tim grabbed my slipstream to slingshot past I was way too far back on the approach to Thillois. Did try to make it up nevertheless and did manage to get alongside, but Tim had the inside covered nicely and powered home into first place. Congrats Tim, very well played.

I hope you can get GPL sorted on your new PC Clive, it would be shame to see you go. As Bill suggests, it is worth a fresh install using the install guide http://gplworld.org/tl_files/srworld/upload_old/downloads/simracing/grand_prix_legends/guides/GPL_Easy_Installation_Guide_ENG_v1.6.1.pdf?

I was thinking of a fresh install myself for my machine at the end of this season at it is running sluggishly these days, but I might stick with Windows 7 as a stop gap measure until I cough up enough coppers for a new PC. I believe Michael Turner was also having issues with his Windows 10 install, but his issues were more to do with his wheel being recognised than screen freezing.

I read in chat that someone had joined with 36fps!?

It was not me, but very often and particurlarly at the start I was less than 30 fps.

I thought I would not have brakes troubles on this kind of track but it was not the case at all !

I was running OK early on but people were disappearing and re-appearing which is extremely off-putting when you don't know what brakes you have anyway.

I was quicker through the sweeps than those I was chasing but couldn't always see them so didn't know how close they were as they disappeared from Prib too.

I got squeezed a couple of times and don't know if it was bad driving or if people couldn't see me so I retired having had a couple of offs.

I didn't drop frames, just other people.

I also definitely joined with the 60fpsV2newmod.

That's the curious thing, normally if you see all others disappearing and reappearing, it must be yourself.
BUT
Last night I saw permanently all cars disappearing and reappearing what couldn't be on my side, as I am sitting next to the server!
