It has been found that removing XP Compatability mode in Windows 7 fixes this odd problem. I assume it also works for Windows 10 although I have not tested this.

EDIT: This weird problem happens in W10 and is a real head scratcher. A fix I have tried and which has worked so far is this.

The GTL install that I was having this problem with, is running in Compatability mode and is using the Windows 8 setting. I wanted to drive a red Ferrari but kept being given a green Lola. I went to the Lola folder and changed the green cars .car extension to .xcar, using Windows Notepad. When I next ran GTL I was given the car I wanted, the red Ferrari. After closing GTL I changed the offending cars .xcar extension back to .car. Starting GTL again I chose the red Ferrari and received the red Ferrari on track.

I don't know if this will work in the future but it's worth a try.
