Season 32 Sports Car Trophy – Round 8 -  Brands Hatch

For the 8th round of the Sport Car Trophy we go to Brand Hatch 1967.
Brands Hatch is a motor racing circuit near Swanley in Kent, England. First used as a dirt track motorcycle circuit on farmland, it hosted 12 runnings of the British Grand Prix between 1964 and 1986 and currently holds many British and International racing events.
Gerhard Berger once said that Brands Hatch is "the best circuit in the world". Paddock Hill Bend is a renowned corner.

Driver lists and divisional rules can be found on the championship standings page

Only reported incidents will be moderated, there is no Red Zone.

Handicapping and chassis allocation.
This season the Sports Car Trophy will be using a token system which allows drivers to purchase any chassis of their choice for a given number of tokens as published on the championship standings page. Drivers classed as Amateurs will be allocated an additional 10 tokens.  The token allocation will not be managed in SRou this season so (unlike the 67F1 Works and 67F1 Privateer divisions) the tokens available to each driver will not appear in the championship table (when the mouse pointer is hovered over the driver's total).  Rather, the available tokens will be published in the race announcement.  See below.

Available Tokens:
Note: These are the tokens available to each driver before the 10 tokens are added for making the race start.

Yup. Had disappearing cars here too.

Race was hard work, I thought I had it in the bag after Greg span. Then on around lap 10 I messed up and ran wide at Stirlings' and ended up on top of the Hedge!
I thought I was stuck as the car barely moved - then I noticed it would accelerate away from the track so steered right to get some speed up while sticking to the outside of the bend - At the next straight I managed to somehow fire myself back at the track, Just as Sam blasted by.
Then I chased him for a few laps before getting by as he made a mistake and pulled out a lead.
Then with 10 to go I span I think, which let Sam back by.
This time he didn't make any mistakes and I ended up tightening my Fundoshi (Still have it) and making a charge down the inside to T1 - I was very careful so didn't quite finish the move in the first corner and had to take the fight on to Druids before fully re-passing.
From there I just concentrated on concentrating and pulled back out a gap.

The 2 fights were good fun Sam, well done on a well deserved 2nd.
Well done also to Greg for climbing back up to 3rd after his early off.
And to Evil for seeing the end of the race Wink - Hopefully it's sorted now, GPL wouldn't be the same and you'd have to get Assetto Corsa or something.

Cars were disappearing for me for roughly a second, once per lap -ish, different places (first was lap 1 as I passed stationary Carlos at T1), all the early laps at least. Most of race there was no one in sight so dunno.

Congrats Tim and Sam!

I was surprised to get pole position. I wasn't prepared this time. New ramp angles and 10 minutes of practice weren't enough to know what I needed to know. My apologies Tristan and Dean. Those weren't the only times that dropping a wheel off the inside of the track bit me. I had hoped to keep my car clean for late in the race. Had I not screwed up in front of Dean, I might have done it. Dean appeared to get away without a great deal of trouble, luckily. I thought I had saved my car from rolling but when it fell back on it's wheels, the hedge was holding my rear wheels off the ground.

I think Carlos tried to let me pass. I didn't handle that well. I dropped a wheel off the outside of the track then. Whoops! another spin. Sad

I got lucky to get by Doni and Clive. I saw enough of Clive to know it could take several laps to find a place I might pass if he didn't make a mistake. I thought I had gotten further beside Doni. Had I got my nose in front of his, that would have been a good pass, but I don't think I did.

I think I got to see everybody. Smiley I wish I could have seen more of Tim and Sam. I caught Clive numerous times at Druids.

It was fun to do some driving after not touching the wheel in a week. Without Tristan and Dean getting caught in my mistakes, that would have been a decent drive.

My father's failing health and regular distractions keep making it more difficult to enjoy a little GPL. I hope to get a hour of practice before the next race.

It was nice to complete a race. I had 2 discoes in my last 3 races online. I did get on a Brasilian server last week and I didn't see the flashing of all cars or the quality of my signal diminish. With me joining the server late, we might get some idea if my connection is dragging others down. I saw cars I was watching disappear occasionally within a minute or two of me joining. It's a bit nerve wracking for me when the cars start disappearing. I can't hope of passing when I feel the need to leave so much room. I wish I had more time to check other servers. I've been worried about my connection after disconnecting in practice and the GT race at Nurburgring. And I was disconnected last week from the FunLiga server during the Can Am race.

Thanks guys. I hope to see you next time.

And to Evil for seeing the end of the race Wink

That's good news. I'm so preoccupied, I hadn't realized it until you mentioned it. Smiley

Hugely relieved to see a chequered flag, you cannot believe what a relief that was. It was far better feeling than ( almost ) any podium or win. Grats to those who did get some champagne.  Wink Wink

I had not realised that the anticipation of a screen freeze and a DNF was affecting my approach to races and I was not fully focused and concentrating. The longer that this race went on for me, the more it seemed to matter.  Grin Grin

Over the last 48hrs I have had to re-install Win10 after it failed to boot, even in Safe Mode. Maybe my probs were related to an unstable Factory install of windows?? only time will tell.

It was ironic that on Sunday evening at the  67's Kyalami race I had finally got my graphics to the level I was expecting when I got my new rig. I did not care that I made a mistake and ripped 2 wheels off my Brabham....it all looked awesome!!!!

I have changed so many parameters in the graphics area that I could not possibly remember what I had done. After the re-install of Win 10 I lost all those settings, so back to square one again. But now I know that those settings are in there somewhere!!

I had all cars vanishing, both ahead and in mirrors probably a couple of times per lap. Almost like others were on 36fps? Very scary in the braking zones.

Congrats to Tim for a fine win! I had a fun race myself, Tim pretty much described it. I couldn't live with his pace but a couple of errors on his part allowed us to battle for most of it  Smiley.

It's a shame about Greg's spin on the first lap but that was a fine recovery drive into 3rd spot. It was great to see Clive finish a race after his recent PC woes.

No worries about the crash Bastian, it happens. Shame you got punted into the hedge in the aftermath. I was alongside but didn't quite get the jump on you so was having to rely on you staying wide.

I did enjoy hustling the Porsche after coaxing lumbering Fords about. See you all at the next one

I've loaded the chassis the drivers used into the token calculator spreadsheet.  For the next race the available tokens will be as declared in the table below (the table will also appear in the next race announcement).  The calculated values are automated but selecting the cars is a manual process so please check your tokens to make sure I haven't made a silly error.  There was no token overspend for this round so no one is disqualified.

Available Tokens:
Note: These are the tokens available to each driver before the 10 tokens are added for making the race start.
