Season 32 Historic Trophy – Round 9 - Nürburgring

We stay in Europe for Round 9 and a visit to the legendary Nürburgring - Nordschleife. Since its construction (1925 - 1927), the Nordschleife has enjoyed a reputation as a terrifying and merciless route through the Eifel forest. An English journalist who visited the Nordschleife during the opening race on 18 June 1927 concluded “that it seemed as if a reeling, drunken giant had been sent out to determine the route”. The Formula 1 driver Sir John Young "Jackie" Stewart – a three-time world champion in 1969, 1971 and 1973 – was so impressed by the circuit that he gave it the name it will probably never lose: the Green Hell (Grüne Hölle). Racing and winning on the Nordschleife has always been very special for racing drivers, because the track is one of the most demanding in the world. Tricky corners, treacherous crests, steep inclines and gradients and constantly changing road surfaces demand great skill from the drivers and provides the cars with a very hard test.

Driver lists and divisional rules can be found on the championship standings page

Only reported incidents will be moderated, there is no Red Zone.

Handicapping and chassis allocation.
This season the Historics will be using a token system which allows drivers to purchase any chassis of their choice, 2 litre or 3 litre, for a given number of tokens as published on the championship standings page. Drivers classed as Amateurs will be allocated an additional 10 tokens.  The token allocation will not be managed in SRou this season so (unlike the 67F1 Works and 67F1 Privateer divisions) the tokens available to each driver will not appear in the championship table (when the mouse pointer is hovered over the driver's total).  Rather, the available tokens will be published in the race announcement.  See below.

Available Tokens:
Note: These are the tokens available to each driver before the 10 tokens are added for making the race start.

Engine went south just after the Karrussel on what should have been a smoking second lap (I was 24 seconds clear of my 8:57 stuck behind Clive first lap through the first two sectors).  Angry

So then it was nurse til points. Got that done (barely), was all silent by Schwedenkreuz.  Sad

I've loaded the chassis the drivers used into the token calculator spreadsheet.  For the next race the available tokens will be as declared in the table below (the table will also appear in the next race announcement).  The calculated values are automated but selecting the cars is a manual process so please check your tokens to make sure I haven't made a silly error.  There was no token overspend for this round so no one is disqualified.

Available Tokens:
Note: These are the tokens available to each driver before the 10 tokens are added for making the race start.

Hoping for a good battle with Billy who posted a very good qually time in the little Ferrari. Unfortunately I missed a gear at Flugplatz on lap 1 and so a spun off and damaged the engine.  It would barely pull fourth gear after that never mind fifth.  Struggled on for 4 laps to make sure I scored points then had to retire.

Never mind the positions.........I finished a second race !! woohoo  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Hopefully I have removed the last of the gremlins, although I was wrestling with the last of them as I joined the server last night.
I offer the following experience in case anyone else has similar probs in the future.

I was having issues with my G25 which had been losing its functions and calibration in what appeared to be a random way. Sometimes I would get in the car and the engine would just be revving with no steering or pedal response. The next time I would have steering but no throttle, another time no gears Huh!!!!
I checked the profiler and all seemed OK , but each time I joined the server something was wrong??? Also when the G25 failed sometimes GPL would CTD and I would have to reboot???!!

So, I wondered if the new rig was the problem. It had 2 x USB 3 ports on top into which I had plugged the G25. hmmmmm? I wonder if the Logitech software/hardware is incompatible with the hi-speed USB?
So I re routed the cable to the USB 2 ports on the rear of the box ( cutting my wrist on a shelf bracket in the process!!. But no pain, no gain eh?) and rebooted.
Straight into GPL, full function on wheel/pedals/shifter  Grin Grin Grin
The graphics were now perfect and the GreenHell has never looked so good. I was interested in getting to the finish and proving the stability of the rig, so I did not bother with setting a qually time and opted for the Eagle climax as a safe drive.
The setup was not quick, but was very safe and controllable ( although I still managed a couple of spins!!) and I got quicker each lap without really pushing hard.

Grats to the fast bunch at the front. Maybe I can get my mojo running again and provide some problems for you guys in the future  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Apologies for the tangle with Billy on Lap1. I had a much better run of the preceeding corner and was drawing alongside. Your car was just vanishing into my blind spot when I saw your front left wheel move my way. I squeezed myself onto the grass but could not avoid the tangle  Undecided Undecided I suspect that you did not expect me to be there and that I was in your blind spot too? Sorry  Undecided Undecided

Clive, no worries. For the past few weeks I have been getting 30fps at the start of races. It did not hit 60 until lap 2. Consequently I was concentrating on keeping on the road. I was thinking about letting you & Dean past but there are not many passing places at the Ring.
I was never going to compete with the fast guys but keeping the car in one piece for 6 laps was a victory in itself.

I was a little pre-occupied thinking about work stuff last night. As such, on lap 1 I suddenly realised that I had no idea where on the circuit I was, and whether hard acceleration was appropriate.... The answers were:
1. 100m from Karussell
2. No

I almost saved it but contact with the outer barrier ripped off a wheel and that was that...leaving me more time to think about work. whoopee...
