Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 0

Phil is having problems with his brakes/suspension which causes his car to pull left under heavy braking. He has just passed Doni on the run towards Stowe and his car swerves across in front of Doni to take to the grass. ( this move will be repeated much later in the race ).
Doni passes by unscathed and Phil rejoins the track.
Unfortunately Phil take his car straight onto the racing line through Stowe which is exactly where Bastian is intending to sweep past and a collision occurs. Phil should have known better but I suspect that he was under the red mist of competition.
Blatant bad rejoin 2 places lost

Server replay time: 0

In what was an almost carbon copy of his previous passing attempt on Doni, Phil again slipstreams Doni and pulls out to make a pass before Stowe. However this time he does not quite clear Doni's Merc and the braking issue which he has carried all race causes his car to pull left and clip the front of Doni's car taking them both into the barriers.
Phil has confessed that he was aware of the braking issue and Doni did nothing wrong, maintaining his line and pace.
Although this incident was as a result of mechanical issues with Phil's car, they were problems that he had been driving with and he perhaps could have given more room or been prepared for the pull to the left. Either way, the responsibility was for Phil to make a safe pass.

Clive Loynes started from the pit lane and as a consequence the server did not register his first lap. The results will need to be adjusted to move Clive forward by one lap

Server replay time: 0h01m12s

Lap 1 and Phil has got his car alongside Carlos on the exit of Copse with more than 50% overlap and is ideally placed to sweep past on the next left hand bend. It looks as if Carlos is unaware that there is a car to his right and swings across to take the racing line. Phil is as close to his side of the track that he can be and the resultant contact flips both cars.
In mitigation it was Lap 1 and it is quite likely that Carlos lost track of Phil's car in his mirrors, but it was still his move that caused the incident.
Caution to Carlos. Check that there is no-one alongside you before moving across the track.

Season 32 Historic Trophy – Round 10 - Silverstone

The final round of the championship will be held at the circuit which hosted the very first race in the F1 world drivers championship. Silverstone is built on the site of a World War II bomber base, RAF Silverstone, which opened in 1943. The track hosted the first F1 championship race in 1950. The British Grand Prix has been permanently held here since 1987. The airfield's three runways, in classic WWII triangle format, lie within the outline of the present track. The first two races were held on the runways themselves, with the 1949 International Trophy switching to the perimeter track. This arrangement was used for the 1950 and 1951 Grands Prix. In 1952 the start line was moved from the Farm Straight to the present Finish Straight, and this layout remained largely unaltered for the following 35 years. Since 1975 the track has been modified with the introduction of chicanes etc – we will be using the 1960’s layout.

Sorry to Doni for punt lap 2.  Embarrassed

I was desperately trying to scrub off speed, even tried using the inside wall to avoid, but couldn't. Then, I let the wrong Mercedes past in attempted recompense.  Tongue

As for these cars, fun to drive solely for the challenge (and historical interest) maybe, but there's no racing going on. It's just hotlapping at your own pace, with the occasional obstacle. Passes only happen when someone screws up (and doesn't take out those following). Can't challenge, because these cars need to be sideways to scrub speed after the brakes do what they do, and when the car ahead is using 80% of the track just trying to stay on the black stuff...

Never mind how much more difficult it is to keep out of other's incidents when you've got a floppy car with no brakes.

Add the moderation team's apparent attitude that passes have to completely done before the passee even realizes what's going on or "that was not an 'advisable' place to attempt a pass, if you can't stay in the other guy's extremely narrow field of view then stop being so aggressive, because others have no responsibility to maintain anything like situational awareness, after all they've only done hmmm let's see here OVER 700 RACES races with UKGPL".

IMO, the only racing possible with these cars would be at tracks where the brake is not used more than once per lap (e.g. Indianapolis), i.e. there aren't a factor at all.

So if they come back next season, count me out. thumbdown

Another mess by yours truely!

Qualified 6th but was last on the track at the end of qually so had no time to do the fuel calcs I was trying to do.  Bunged 80+ litres in it and was too late to start.

Started from the pit lane and had a good battle with Phil and emerged in 6th with Tim just up the road.  But the fight to get there had destroyed my brakes and I had to go easy for a few laps, watching Tim pull away.

Think I was still 6th at the end too.

When is next season?

For a strange phenomenon the car has moved before the start despite the clutch pedal pressed. Is time that my pedals have strange interaction with my old wheel,i hope to solve later with a new wheel.I have continued the race also if i was disqualified. From my reaplay my position was 9 between Doni and James.I leave the decision to the moderator on what to do.
Was difficult to understand when the car behind was in real dubbing, with the doubt i have gived way.

Sorry about the contact at Stowe on lap 24 (0h43m53s) Doni. For some reason my car seemed to pull to the left under braking.  I didn't notice it in praccy, only when I looked at the replay (including the dress rehearsal on lap 9 (0h16m52s)).

Really enjoyed it but an average race, finished 9th, where I started.

Blew an engine, maybe damaged in the touch from Bastian, but other than that I only made one mistake where I spun after running out of brakes.

Had to almost constantly manage the brakes here and coasted into Copse, Stowe and Club most of the time.

Great fun season but I'm looking forward to getting back to some wheel to wheel stuff in 65s next season................

If you're revving the engine when you select a gear the car will always roll forward, unless you have a foot on the brake.

Not a great race for me, even considering the fact I was in a Vanwall (Silverstone actually suits the understeering pig!).
Way back in the mists of time I stated I'd stick to the original rules regarding token allocations,  so  I was operating on 5 less than the official tables.

This posed a problem as Sam was only 15 points behind and had the tokens for a Merc, which I fully expected him to take.
So I did some practice laps in both the Fez 625 and the Vanwall as they were the fastest cars I could use. I was supprised when the Vanwall turned out to lap nearly a second quicker in race pace so used that.
I also tried the Merc and Lancia out of curiosity, I found the Lancia to be quicker and technically had the tokens....  Eventually I stuck to my original decision.

Qualifying went very well, I even had the potential to knock a further half second off my time but missed my final hotlap by a second due to letting axel by on his own fast lap. Uli would still have been safe even had I managed this.

The start went well also, I held 2nd and was fighting for the lead nicely. Uli then ran slightly wide and I jumped him along hanger straight. Then on lap 2 Clive ran out of brakes and took me for a dancing lesson. Knowing how important this race was I might have had a moment of screamy sweary rage while getting back on track in about 4th.
Not too bad yet though as I was not too far back and faster than some of the drivers in front.
Then on about lap 4 I clipped a curb and got thrown out of control into the In-field.

I rejoined much further back and was now raging and swearing at myself as Sam was now 4 spots and .8 of a mile ahead.
All I could do was drive as clean and as fast as I could while wishing mechanical misfortune on those ahead Wink

Eventually the gods smiled on me as Uli blew up and Clive either crashed on his own or got involved in a backmarker.

I came home 3rd convinced i'd lost the championship until I checked my maths after Sam congratulated me.  Won by 2 points, can't get much closer than that!

Well done to the podium and to Sam for a hard fought championship. I've really enjoyed this and had some fantastic racing on the way.
If we do another I'm tempted to only take the Gordini just to showcase it's gallic superiority to all the silly red, green and silver cars  Tongue

Ok first of all Big apologies to Tim for Stowe on lap 2. My fault entirely as I was caught out by your early braking on disc brakes   Roll Eyes. I did try and steer inside and let the brakes off to maybe fly past you on the inside and impale the wall rather than take you out...but I failed in that too??!!
There was no intention to pass, simply to follow for a few laps until things settled down. I waited to allow you back in front, but we both lost a few places, and I guess I might lose more after moderating  Undecided.

The rest of the race was quite interesting as I eased my way back up through the field and slowly reeled in Tris, until he ran wide and I scampered through into 3rd. Then a shock when I passed Uli who was crawling to move into 2nd!!

Prib appeared to have a bit of a mental breakdown towards the end because cars were jumping around on my display so it was hard to work out where Sam was. Phil was always the next car up the road, even if I thought I had just passed him?? Well that was until I was closing on a pair of backmarkers down Hanger Straight, with Tris recovering quickly behind I was hoping to pass the pair out of Stowe. Then Phil and Doni got a little enthusiastic about exchanging paint samples and were both cartwheeling all over the available tarmac. With nowhere to go, and no brakes to stop the car, I took one of the only two options possible... I hit Doni!!
By the time I could reset Tim and Tris were through ... 2nd to 4th  scared with about 5 laps to go. A SnG and Uli slipped past as I exited the pits.
But with full tanks and cold tyres I struggled to chase him and I was resuigned to finishing 5th until Uli lost the tail on the last lap at Chapel and gifted me the place.
Sort of relieved that my early screw up did not stop Tim taking the championship. Roll Eyes and grats to the podium places.

Still some moderating to be done, but I doubt that will affect the championship places ( unless I can find a way to promote myself by 10 places and DQ several others.  Grin )
