Season 33-Joe Shaw Trophy 2018 – Parco Sempione 2nd round

Welcome to the second round of the Joe Shaw Memorial Trophy at Parco Sempione.
Parco Sempione ("Simplon Park") is a large city park in Milan. The park was established in 1888 but the circuit dates from 1937 when the likes of Nuvolari, Rudolf Caracciola and Bernd Rosemeyer drove outrageous cars like the Mercedes-Benz W125 and Auto Union Type C.  A very tight track characteristic of the early days of motor sport, public roads and virtually no concept of safety precautions.

In the 66's Pro drivers can only use 2 ltr cars. Ams have free choice of all 2ltr and 3 ltr cars

Thanks Axel Smiley

Can we pls not take advantage too much of the topography of the s/f line in quali!? In a former (65?) leaguerace here the rule was you had to make turn 1 to make the lap count Wink And the start will be very slow here as the front row immediatly has to turn in. Let's take extra care Wink Also note to self  Roll Eyes

Screenfreeze just before halfway.  Undecided

Hoped for a bigger turn-out, but it looks like this track is cursed...

I was OK in quali, but when we went to the grid I had no pedal response. No gas and no brakes no gears!!!

In view of the low turnout ( which perhaps deterred some Am drivers? ) and the problems with this track, maybe we should consider a re-run of this round at Monaco or Pau?

Whilst I appreciate that this would not feel good for those who survived this track, this was not a good race for the JSMT, but maybe members can post their thoughts here ?

The results are in the tuesday thread  Wink

I have guests and could not join but this track did not attract me...

Pretty sure that's not a server-causable issue. Are sure none of those extra-fragile wires Logi sources for their wheels got pinched or something?

Easter Sunday? No one has plans then, right? I'm atheist and don't get invited to many family functions; that's my excuse for attending today.

Still gathering data on that. Reports from all (affected or not) would help that.

...this was not a good race for the JSMT...

In retrospect, but UKGPL hasn't used hindsight to nullify a result (while I've been here), have they?

Well done Dean, and Doni! You're driving better than ever, Dean! Wink

Thanks for giving me room after start. Dean kept me honest early on, also missed my braking early race on cold tires plus more fuel/weight. Spun after some laps, still held on to the lead, but got a screenfreeze with about 25 laps to go. Shame, but it happens. These 66s 2L cars are fun to drive. Thought the Eagle was slow, but maybe not? It handled great.

It's up to you what to do Clive, I'm not advocating in my own interest. Wink

Grats to Dean and Doni and commiserations to those who got disco'd.

Not quite sure what happened with my wheel and pedals, I would agree that it does not sound like server related, but after quitting I fired up some offline driving and everything worked perfectly  Huh

I was disappointed that a) there were not many members competing and b) that my Logitech issues reduced the number even more. Undecided

Having considered it overnight, could we allow this result to stand but add an extra round at a more popular track? what do members think??

Easter might have to do with the turnout as Dean said, Clive. Wink

I'd say a rerun is not fair to Dean and Doni, and also this track seems unreliable (at least at 60fps?). So better to let the result stand. Not sure about adding a race in the middle of the competition as well.

I just hope we have a big turnout at next week's Leipzig 65s event Wink

Hi, sorry I couldn't make it last night, tried to but the messed up threads meant I only realized it was 66 mod about 40 mins prior.  I don't have this mod installed but dl it, only it took an hour, missed the race and even after installing it doesn't run (clicking the green button results in CTD...maybe an incorrect setting in the core.INI).

I'll c u in Leipzig, Bob.

Sorry - I was enjoying the track but just couldn't concentrate after a busy day. After my first trip behind the scenery I rejoined - but just couldn't keep my mind on business  Sad
In the end I quit as I just couldn't see me improving.

I'll hopefully by more alert for the next one!

The mismatch in threads for this round causes some confusion for me but I'll post here re the points race.

It's OK by me to frag the results and either re-run it or replace it altogether.  Of just six entries, one didn't start(Andreas), one 'stalled' on the grid(Clive), one crashed out(Tim)and one had a screen freeze(Robert).  That left just Dean and I to soldier on and he was streets faster.  (BTW, I had a freeze in the warm up race; this track must now be suspect as a loser.)

It doesn't seem fitting to let the results stand considering.  Tough on Dean, especially, but as I do, I expect that he'd rather earn a win rather than have one just handed over on a platter.
