The results of the Joe Shaw Memorial Trophy for 2018 have finally been collated and here are the standings for the top 10:-

NAME                        POINTS
Dean Logan                 130
Andreas Gebhart          115
Robert Fleurke               93
Evilclive                         71
Bastian Grupp                55
Axel Cook                      51
Doni Yourth                   50
Tim Muttram                  37
Francesco                      32
Baab                             25

So, congratulations to Dean Logan who is the winner of this awesome trophy for this year.

I will inform Malcolm ( Joe's father) so that his name can be added.

I understand that Dean lives in the Toronto area of Canada, so presenting the JSMT, in person, might be an issue unless we arrange for the annual get together to be at Mosport??  anyone interested?  I guess Doni could make it? lol.

This also raises the issue of where UKGPL'ers meet up this year for our annual weekend at a motor racing venue. So anyone with a suggestion please post here.

Hi Clive

I'm definitely interested in a trip to Canada Smiley

Congratulations to Dean for a well deserved and hard fought victory and again a big thank you to everyone for taking part and keeping Joes memory alive. its fantastic.

I will get a Deans name added to the trophy as soon as possible and post some pictures.

For a meeting, Brands Hatch is always on but another track that might be more central such as Silverstone could be an option. I guess it depends on how far people will have to travel.

I contacted Goodwood about organising a corporate "Revival Race Day Experience" for up to 20 as a thank you to the GPL gang and in Joes Memory. Unfortunately the quote came in at serious lottery win levels so I'm going to have to get lucky or start a crowdfunding campaign to pull it off. It would be great if one day we could do it though.

Looking forwards to catching up with you all soon.

Malcolm Smiley

Hi Malcolm,

It was a tough 3 race challenge this year and Dean proved to be the most consistent driver and he deserved the win, finally wrestling the Trophy away from Mr Fleurke!!! Andreas also showed that keeping all the whizzy bits inside the box, and a wheel on each corner gains lots of points and was a worthy 2nd place, but Robert still showed his class by getting a foot on the podium and a taste of the champagne in 3rd.

The Mosport mention was a little tongue in cheek  Roll Eyes, but who knows??

We have another regular racer from the Toronto area ( Doni) to join Dean, so there could be a crowd of 2 locals, plus any stalwarts from the UK and Europe who might be able to make the trip. ( I have to confess here that my sister lives just North of Toronto ).

I have not been able to spend much time either practising/racing or promoting our annual get together for the JSMT weekend this year. We are having major building works done on our house and are virtually living out of, and walking between, cardboard boxes which are storing our belongings. I have managed to preserve the functioning of my racing PC, but finding spare time is difficult and I have to squeeze between stored goods to get into the seat  Undecided

Many thanks for your intention to offer us virtual geeks a chance to "do it for real" that might have been a very entertaining weekend if GPL members drove like they sometimes do online!! I can quite imagine that Goodwood would require some serious financial commitment and besides, at least when we ding/bend or total our GPL cars the repairs are free!!  Wink

I am open to almost any venue for meeting up within the UK. Brands is good value and a great venue with camping etc, but we have done that for a few years, Silverstone is reasonably central .....so maybe a change is on the cards?

ANYONE WITH A SUGGESTION FOR A MEET UP PLEASE POST ON THIS THREAD.

Andy and myself are continuing our "Grand Tour" of UK race venues this year with weekend taking in Snetterton and Mallory ( 9th-10th June), which leaves us with the more remote circuits like Knockhill and Anglesy to consider at some time.

P.S. I noticed the Classic Car Rally at the Fleur....28th Aug.....................hmmmmmm might twist my friend's arm for weekend accomodation and make an appearance in my classic Mondeo Estate??

I'll be honest, while the actual grids of cars at Silverstone are often fantastic the viewing is dreadful.
I'm happy with Brands, but then it's a new one on me as I hadn't been before last year!
I'm sure most circuits do a classic themed race day now - the one at Combe seems to be really getting into it's stride, one at somewhere like Donny could be could and is also far more central than Brands?

As for your idea Malcolm - that's a fantastic thought, but I can guess at just how silly money it was given the calibre of cars offered and the total lack of any visible pricing Cheesy

If I ever win the lottery, this is something I'd be hapy to spend a few quid on!  thumbup1

Another venue we haven't discussed before as far as I can remember:
Nurburgring 10-12 August 2018

If it's the 'ring them you can count me in! I've watched VLN before on the Nords and loved it. Historics would be amazing.  Plus I could do a spot of sneaky touristfahrten while there.
Only issues remain the possibility of having to return to Japan this year.

I'm on holiday for the Nurburgring dates.

I did a quick trawl on the internet for the equivalent events (historic cars). Silverstone in mid-June & a bit too soon. Brands Hatch is the 30 June / 1 July weekend. Not expensive, free camping, not over busy & quite simple to organise.

Does anyone else want to go?
