Season 33 - 65 - Round 1 -  Crystal Palace

Welcome to the first round of the combined 65s championship.

For the first time we use the new 65 token system for your car choice,
so please read the rules and car ranking on the championship standings page

Crystal Palace circuit is a former motor racing circuit in Crystal Palace, London, England. The circuit was located within Crystal Palace park. The route of the track is still largely extant today but the roads are now mainly used for access to the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre located in the park, and to events within the upper parts of Crystal Palace Park. Some parts of the track are closed off and part is used for an annual Sprint Meeting, on the Spring Bank Holiday weekend.
In 1953 he circuit had been reduced in length to 1.39 miles (2.2 km), bypassing the loop past the lake, and pressure from the local residents led to an injunction which reduced motor sport events in the park to only five days per year. A variety of races took place, including sports cars, Formula Three, the London Trophy for Formula Two, and even non-championship Formula One races.
Average speeds continued to rise over the years, with the first 100 mph (161 km/h) lap average set in 1970 by that year's Formula One world champion, Jochen Rindt. Also in 1970, the injunction limiting race days expired and racing was increased to 14 days a year. However, driver safety was coming into focus in the early seventies and it became clear that racing around a park at 100 mph (161 km/h) was not safe. Expensive improvements were undertaken, but it was not enough to save the circuit. The last International meeting was in May 1972, the final lap record going to Mike Hailwood at an average speed of 103.39 mph (166.39 km/h).

The rules and driver lists can be found on the championship standings page

We race in intermediate mode.

- Pro driver have no shift+r available
- Intermediates and Amateurs have a single shift+r with a stop and go in the pits available!

Only reported incidents will be moderated, there is no Red Zone.

That may be the case - but I'm looking like a real newbie around this track!
Whoever picked this poxy place?   laugh
I much prefer Monaco, or even (shudder) the big one!

See you ontrack later (only because there does not seem to be much scope for off-track here...)

Cheers,
Dave.

Started with default settings which were unmanageable. Didn't fancy having to deal with being lapped in a car which I could not control.

I've loaded the chassis the drivers used into the token calculator spreadsheet.  For the next race the available tokens will be as declared in the table below (the table will also appear in the next race announcement).  The calculated values are automated but selecting the cars is a manual process so please check your tokens to make sure I haven't made a silly error.  There was no token overspend for this round so no one is disqualified.

Good racing and pleased to see lapping cars didn't cause too many problems as far as I could tell which on such a short narrow track is quite an achievement.

Had a good battle with Mike for the first 10 or so laps but he was too quick for me to mount a challenge. I could just about keep up but nothing more.  All a bit academic in the end because I crashed loosing a wheel so I had to take my one reset and do a S&G. After that I couldn't get anywhere near him. Grats Mike.

Nice to be back here at the beginning of a new season. Shame that I couldn't take part on all races. In the summertime I have much more other priorities …

I'm happy with my third place and was well surprised to see that BT7 festival Grin
In the race I find a good flow, only disturbed by the backmarkers. The most of them did a good job THX to you and for me that was the only excitement in otherwise boring race Wink

GRATS to you Robert and Tristan, great speed there in front Smiley and Axel for well organizing

Hope to see you next race

Great to be back with UKGPL 65s!

Nice little track with character. Quali went well, in my first run ran a PB, and thought that would be hard to beat (also for myself). Start was OK, and held on to the lead. Had slightly more pace than Tris, but the gap stagnated at 3s or so. Then lapped traffic came into play, at some point it was rather hectic, but in general everyone did a great job being aware. I didn't have contact and kept it clean, also for the backmarkers. Tris seemed to have more problems than me lapping cars, or maybe he had to save fuel or so, as the gap grew a lot late race. Pushed for fast lap late race and beat both Hristo's old trackrecords.

I can understand it isn't much fun being lapped a lot, on the other hand a fuller grid is always nice. Also at longer tracks ppl won't be lapped as much. And many had slow cars saving tokens!? I think about 3 guys might have beaten me in a Lotus or so.

Good job Tris keeping me on my toes, and Uli for podium. Good job finishers, thanks to the lapped cars. Had some close calls, but no complaints Wink Commiserations to the DNF's.

Thanks to UKGPL and especially Axel for organizing! Smiley

Omg. Nice Racing by the way, i myself forgot about the new token system and spent way too much using my loved bt11,
being very late home additionaly.

The race was good, now i know why i could overtake so much...i spun in T3 and someone hit me....had some other contacts on that narrow track.
But much fun

Welcome back 65s!! Great, fun race but had a real sweat on by the end of it.

Qualified ahead of a couple of Pros but Clive made a great pass early on. Very opportunistic around the outside of T2. I think he put more faith in me than I would have done. Smiley

Once he'd gone I fell away from the leaders and had Phil for company for a while but I kept it pointing the right way and he fell back.

I got really confused the first time the leaders lapped me and lifted on the straight to let Bastian and AnGex through when it was for position, thinking they were Tristan and Axel. They would likely have passed me on merit later but we'll never know.

Really enjoyed the BT7 here, it just handles so well but I think I'll take something a little quicker for Solitude.

Grats Mike.

Thanks Phil.

Yeah, was confused myself there.  Wink But it was a nice gift.  Grin
All in all it was a good Race. Was the second best Cooper.  Cheesy
Grats to the Podium!
