Season 33 - 65 - Round 2 -  Solitude

Welcome to the second round of the combined 65s championship.

For the first time we use the new 65 token system for your car choice,
so please read the rules and car ranking on the championship standings page

This was the first F1 race I watched live (1964):
"The 14th Solitude Grand Prix was a non-Championship motor race, run to Formula One rules, held on 19 July 1964 at the Solitudering, near Stuttgart. The race was run over 20 laps of the circuit, and was won by Jim Clark in a Lotus 33, after a close battle with John Surtees in a Ferrari 158.
Seven drivers crashed out on the first lap due to heavy rain and standing water on the circuit."

The rules and driver lists can be found on the championship standings page

We race in intermediate mode.

- Pro driver have no shift+r available
- Intermediates and Amateurs have a single shift+r with a stop and go in the pits available!

Only reported incidents will be moderated, there is no Red Zone.

Well after my stupid taking bt11 in the first race after arriving late and forgetting the new rules, i just realized that you shouldn't fall down to 0 token, you can't efford any car than, you need 1 token.
Or is it impossible?

You have 19 tokens before you start this race. If you take the Lotus you will have 19 + 10 - 19 = 10 tokens to carry over to the next race.  If you take the Lotus again, you will have 10 + 10 - 19 = 1 token left. Starting the following race you would have 1 + 10 = 11 so you would have to take a Cooper or BT7. You would need 13 tokens for a Honda.

Great racing with Dave, Jack and Fran. I needed my shift-R, I missed a gear at the tight left hander and ended up in the trees.

Amazing race by Dean, last on grid to third in the BT7.

I agree - was quite exciting! Although despite some PB times (in that car - have only really driven the Lotus in other series) was not as 'competitive' as I hoped.

In addition, my fairly recent tracking-band thing would also suggest that Solitude is apparently more exciting than Crystal Palace  (although was no help at all when it came to picking a setup!).

True! Although your 6-place rise was also not too shabby Smiley

Cheers,
Dave.

Fun and well known track. It was one of the major add-on tracks back in the day.

Just did enough testing to have a well balanced setup, and saved my best laptimes for the event. I accepted Uli's challenge and pulled off a low38, another Pole in the Cooper! Smiley

Start was good and held on to the lead, until heading towards Schatten on the long backstraight. Both Uli and Axel got closer with superior topspeed. Uli tried to outbrake me, but then gave me a knock into the haybales. No harm, no foul, held on to the lead Tongue Car was still good, but later that lap we lost Axel who got taken out sadly...a lap later I braked too late for Schatten and again went into the barrier. From then on had a good focus and rhythm, increased the gap to Uli and later Tristan. Then Tristan dropped. Late race started to think about random stuff, and went off, almost visiting the Café, losing more than 10s. Pushed last lap and I did actually beat the Cooper WR with an on-track lap. Especially final sector was excellent. Wink

Good job Uli, Dean (from the back!) and finishers! Commiserations to the DNF's...

Yeah, shame Tris, I was stuck on the armco...

I know, this is the place where you can gain a lot by cutting the corners,
but I had decided to have at least 2 wheels on the tarmac Wink

Grats podium and Rob for a great win!

Yes, but with a lot of error i threw away the second place. The biggest was at lap 2 where i have failed the breaking.Lost a wheel ,shift-R.The second ,in order of importance, was when i gived the opportunity to Phil to regain road on the straight.
Then there are others but not so important.Anyway not planty satisfied about my race but also not disappointed.

SRY Robert for my tackling at Schatten, my fault, stuck back. I was happy that we could go on.
My one and only chance to take the lead was forgiven ...
After spinning at the same place (Schatten) Tristan passes me. When he crashed I just I carried the Honda home.
GRATS RObert and Dean
cu you all next, maybe at Pau

I've always found it difficult to be quick in the 65s so I'm pleased to be P2 in the Div 2 championship standings after a couple of rounds. However Mike does seem to be the man to beat with a couple of D2 wins.  Grats Mike, your time away hasn't slowed you down. I think I need to get some practice in!
