Moderator's Report

All stop & gos complied with (almost).

Server replay time: 0h02m12s

Bily makes a mess of passing Jack.

Server replay time: 0h10m48s

Fran takes a stop & go on the side just before the pit lane. No time advantage gained so it would be harsh to apply a penalty.

Season 33 Graduates Cup – Round 5 – Solitude

As we reach the halfway point we visit Solitude, outside Stuttgart in Germany. It’s the longest track we will use this season. Despite having several corners the back section is deceptively quick & requires good concentration. For those interested, there are no World Cup games this Sunday.

The registrations for this seasons Graduates Cup are not sufficient to support separate grids. Therefore, both Works & Privateers drivers will participate on the same grid. All drivers have the same tokens allocations. We will, however, run two championships, & separate points will be scored for each. A Privateer may finish the actual race 5th, but still win the Privateers race. The race will be moderated as a combined grid. Privateers are asked not to hold up a Works driver whilst being lapped, but you may race fairly for track position.

The important difference is that Privateers are permitted one reset with a compulsory Stop & Go (taken within two laps). Although the race setting is “Intermediate” Works drivers are not allowed to take a reset.

Server = UKGPL_8
IP = see iGOR
Race date = Sunday 08-07-2018
Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = Link
Race length = 14 Laps (50 minutes)
Variant = 1967
60fps patch used   = 60fpsV2newmod
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qualifying time = 30-45 minutes

Driver lists and divisional rules can be found on the Championship Standings Page

There is no Red Zone. Moderating will be on reported incidents only. Remember that lap 1 incidents carry an additional penalty place.

The chassis token system is explained on the Works  / Privateers standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Privateer Drivers are permitted 1 Shift R followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane within 2 laps. Failure to make a stop will result in a 30 second time penalty. If you require a stop & go on the final lap & are unable to complete a time penalty of 15 secs is added.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Although there are no World Cup games on Sunday, I still won't be on the grid for this race.

Instead I will be in Hyde Park, London watching, and listening to,  Eric Clapton...Carlos Santana...Steve Winwood. plus a few others. I did dig out my old flared trousers and tie dyed T shirts  Afro, but my wife refused to be seen in public with me dressed like that...apparently I don't have the hair anymore and anyway they have mysteriously shrunk several sizes since I last used them...………………….or maybe my waist is a fraction larger??

Congrats Tristan and Dean! Nice job guys.

I'm one that likes difficult tracks but this one had me thinking it's too difficult during qualifying. I did a good job of driving within my limits in the race. I was pleased to stay somewhat close to Tristan, especially after the way I felt in qualifying. Tristan probably helped me go faster. I was like a dog chasing a stick until we started lapping cars.

Tristan made a mistake that let me catch him at one point. That mistake may have helped him. I was getting a good rhythm at that point and the lap I caught him looked to be a good one. But after I had caught him I started making more small errors. I lost a lot time when we lapped Francesco. And I seemed to have lost my composure after that. Finishing wasn't any problem but I couldn't increase my pace any the last few laps.

I enjoyed that. My computer is working well now and I drove a decent race with little trouble. I didn't have the fortitude to challenge Tristan much but overall it was a solid drive.

Instead I will be in Hyde Park, London watching, and listening to,  Eric Clapton...Carlos Santana...Steve Winwood. plus a few others.

I hope it's a good show. How time flies, I haven't seen Santana in 20 years. And that show wouldn't have been a very good one if Jeff Beck hadn't opened the show. Carlos didn't do much. He let his drummers do most of the work. Jeff Beck and Terry Bozzio were awesome though.

Thanks guys and take care.

Watching the replay, looks like I didn't quite manage to dodge Billy when he decided to brake 200 ft. early for T1. Was keeping mind of where Fran was, kinda caught me out. Didn't feel any contact at my end (there's space between our cars from my POV), but he ended up facing kinda backwards (no damage, fortunately), so sorry 'bout that.  Sad

Took longer than I was expecting to get past John. Good clean fight, fun stuff, even if my strategic brain says he should have let me pass to try and catch Andreas before the gap got as big as it did.

Nice trio Clive, I'm a Steve's fan, unique voice.
I was trekking all day on the Alps and came home when the race was over, anyway too tired to race, sorry, it's one of my fav tracks.

Well, Probably a terrible thing to admit in GPL world with it being such an iconic track, but until Sunday I had never driven Solitude in anger, It's been on my hard drive for years but I don't have time for hot lapping and usually only drive on tracks where I'm actually racing. I was also supposed to be off on holiday this week but due to a family illness I found myself with Sunday night available. Grabbed the Cooper as I figured I would do the least damage to me and others and spent 2 hours leading up to the race practicing. Times went from over 4 minutes until I was finally down in the mid 3:35's. Even by the end of the race I found myself on the wrong line in the wrong gear during the later part of the lap when I simply got lost and couldn't remember what corner was next.

Race went great, I really enjoyed the middle part of the race driving my very wide Cooper and trying to make Deans life a misery. He was obviously so much faster than me and I kept my elbows out as much as possible hopefully without crossing the line. Each time I made a mistake he wasn't close enough to capitalise but finally I had to concede and he was through. finished 6s behind him in the end but a few seconds of that was due to me getting lost in the various combinations of corners near the end of the lap, My own lap times dropped by 2s per lap once he was through as I wasn't spending 50% of the lap looking in my mirrors.

So a definite result as far as I am concerned and I hope Dean's frustration at me holding him up was eclipsed by the fun of some very close racing. Especially as Andreas was good enough to crash later in the race. At the entry to Wildparkeck? (I passed several wheels which looked like the were looking for a Lotus bouncing down the track).

Thanks all, it was a blast as always.

The fast sections are are very much like Spa - the consequences of putting a wheel in the wrong place are identical.
Dean, no worries about T1, i did brake a little early for T1 as the approach to the corner was getting busy. The main consequence was this put me behind Jack. I wasn't planning an overtake so soon but I got a better run down to the corner before the long straight & we tangled. In the replay the crash box in GPL seemed to intervene very early, but I'm not saying I am without fault. All I can say is sorry to Jack for what is becoming a habit.
After that I strung several good laps together, enough to pull ahead of David Rainier for a while. Just when it was looking good I put a wheel on the grass.
