Moderator's Report

Summary
Just 1 reported incident.

Server replay time: 0h14m08s

Lap 5 – Curva Nord – Ziu Bacubacu and Francesco Molteni
Francesco and Ziu have been trading places for a couple of laps. As the cars approach Curva Nord, Ziu has a great draft and is travelling 7mph faster than Francesco. He moves to the right to take the inside line but Francesco moves across forcing Ziu onto the hard standing to the side of the main track. The hard standing comes to an abrupt end leaving Ziu with no option but to take to the grass. Ziu cannot maintain control and he spins into Francesco taking both cars out of the race.

On lap 4, Ziu made a successful overtake at the same corner when he achieved 100% overlap at replay time 0h1m16s. This overlap was achieved before the second to last bollard. However, on lap 5 when he tried the same manoeuvre he didn’t achieve 100% overlap until a long way after the last bollard (replay time 0h14m07s). Ziu should have realised that he wasn’t in as good a position on lap 5 as he had been on lap 4 and he would have been wise to back out of the manoeuvre.

Having just been passed the lap before on the same corner, Francesco should have been prepared for an attack by Ziu and should have been monitoring his mirrors. Ziu clearly disappears from Francesco’s mirrors on the approach to Curva Nord so Francesco should have known that Ziu would be on his inside. It would have been wise for Francesco to leave much more room for Ziu than he did. Any defensive move to the inside should have been made much earlier whilst Ziu was in full view and BEFORE Ziu made his move.

The normal guidelines which address the % overlap required when attempting a pass are aimed at corners where the cars turn-in towards a definite apex. The banked corners are rather a special case in that they are more like straights and don’t have a conventional apex. Ziu made his move to the inside at replay time 0h14m05s. As Ziu comes into full view in Francesco's right hand mirror, Francesco also moves across. It is difficult to prove Francesco moved across in response Ziu’s move but it should have been obvious that once Ziu had disappeared from view that Francesco had to leave room.

Both drivers could have done something to avoid contact so neither driver can be held solely responsible. Consequently blame cannot be wholly apportioned to one driver and hence this collision has to be called a racing incident.

It must be noted that the declaration of a racing incident does not mean both drivers are exonerated. Rather both drivers are to some degree culpable, they should consider their actions and endeavour to avoid similar incidents in the future.

Practice server back up again. Hopefully someone will want to play today Clive  Cheesy

Guess that I may have to wait for the footie to finish, before anyone appears.

Just had a nice practice session with Axel and Phil. Decided to run a few laps together and I got a screen freeze (Lap 2 I think) braking for the Parabolica.

Never had a freeze on this track before, hopefully it was a one off..

You are in.  Good luck (not that you need it - you are already very fast  Wink ).

However please be careful with the brakes, they are rubbish (but consistent with the period). The draft is strong too, so be extra careful when braking behind someone. If you loose a few meters by being careful you will easily make them back again on the next straight.

Well, I can't seem to buy a result in this series. Sad Same as in the practice session earlier, screen freeze heading down to the Parabolica. I've done countless laps around here both alone and against a field full of AI and never had this happen before. That's twice in 2 attempts to race online.

Shame, it was looking like it was going to be a good battle at the front.

Screen freeze exiting Lesmos all on my very lonesome lap 7-ish. Maybe there's some soccer or something on tv.

I've loaded the chassis the drivers used into the token calculator spreadsheet.  For the next race the available tokens will be as declared in the table below (the table will also appear in the next race announcement).  The calculated values are automated but selecting the cars is a manual process so please check your tokens to make sure I haven't made a silly error.  There was no token overspend for this round so no one is disqualified.

Available Tokens:
Note: These are the tokens available to each driver before the 10 tokens are added for making the race start.

You don't deserve an other answer.

Ziu and Fran, please gentlemen can we have a little decorum?  This forum is just not the place for such outbursts.

I have looked at the replay and what neither of you seems to mention is that lap after lap there were four of you in a fantastic scrap for 4th place.  Everybody was giving everyone else the room to race.  It was great to watch.  Grin

If you have a grievance with regard to another driver then your race report on this forum should not get personal!  "I was knocked off at the first banking." will suffice, if you feel the need to say anything at all.

In your incident report to the moderator, then you can say what you like.  They are the soul of discretion.

I thought that it was a crying shame that it ended as it did.

We have a court system here at UKGPL where incidents are reported (via the link under the race results). The reported incidents are reviewed by the moderating team in an effort to understand what went wrong, so that lessons can be learnt and the racing experience improved for the benefit of everyone. Normally the drivers involved report the incidents but anybody can report any incident. This simply helps the moderator identify incidents, otherwise the moderator would have a very time consuming job reviewing the replays over an over again from each drivers perspective looking for incidents.

The court system is private to reduce the risk of arguments breaking out on the public forums. Quite often drivers post something they shouldn't in the heat of the moment. It is far better to stay calm, report the incident and let the moderating team deal with it.

I witnessed the incident at replay time 0h14m08s so as the moderator I am already aware. Would the drivers involved please submit an incident report so that your version of events can be taken into account. This incident can be resolved quite amicably using the court system.
