Season 33 - 65 Trophy - Round 7 - Clermont

Welcome to the 6th round of the combined 65s championship.

The 1965 Circuit Clermont-Ferrand where four Formula One French Grands Prix were held : 1965, 1969, 1970 and 1972. Due to drivers cutting corners, a stone thrown from Emerson Fittipaldi's Lotus hit Helmut Marko in the eye during the 1972 French Grand Prix, ending his F1 career, as well as that of the circuit. The stones also had caused ten deflated tyres, but no big crashes. The French Grand Prix moved back to the new Paul Ricard Circuit, where the French Grand Prix was held in 1971.
Chris Amon -who recently passed away- set the laprecord here in 1972 in his Matra, in an epic recovery effort to finish third after having suffered from a puncture.

For the first season we use the new 65 token system for your car choice,
so please read the rules and car ranking on the championship standings page

The rules and driver lists can be found on the championship standings page

We race in intermediate mode.

- Pro driver have no shift+r available
- Intermediates and Amateurs have a single shift+r with a stop and go in the pits available!

Only reported incidents will be moderated, there is no Red Zone.

Very tricky track but a great flow and good fun.

Only 3 Ams but I had the pace to take a comfortable win. I love the BT7, its always good fun once you get used to the engine noise.

Shame about Clive on the last lap, having set the fastest lap on the previous tour.

As it was the hottest day of this summer with 38°,
I had no intentions but to get some tokens,
but this BT7 is such nice handling...

Grats to Dean, Axel and Andreas for the podium.

Got a good start and jumped Axel's BT7 to get at Dean's BT11. I felt that I was able to go a little quicker than Dean wanted to on full tanks, so I was pressing for an opening. Then just as we started up the hill ( somewhere that I take flat in 4th gear, and I expected Dean to be on a similar pace ) he suddenly slowed for the first right hander and I had to take avoiding action that put me into the bank and allowed Axel back into 2nd place. By the time I had got going again they were a few seconds ahead. The car felt OK but the rear left tyre started overheating very quickly and I had to adapt my driving for the rest of the race.
Maybe , just maybe, if I had practiced a little I would have found the fast way around this track before 50% of the race was over?? I kept getting fastest sectors in Prib, but then I tried too hard and screwed up another part of the lap. Eventually I hooked things together and took about 3 secs off my PB.  Wink
I was sure that there was a sub 2:20 lap in the car and i was going for it on the last lap, but that dodgy rear left tyre could not take the strain and I knew a couple of corners before it all went wrong that I was pushing my luck, with the temps going into meltdown mode. I might have salvaged 3rd even with a damaged car, but not when the darned thing is upside down??!!  Undecided

Not so hot here because near the Alpi, but with 33 degrees and a humidity very high was very hard to race.
This year Germany with Scandinavia seem on of the country more touched by crazy temperatures.

I've loaded the chassis the drivers used into the token calculator spreadsheet.  For the next race the available tokens will be as declared in the table below (the table will also appear in the next race announcement).  The calculated values are automated but selecting the cars is a manual process so please check your tokens to make sure I haven't made a silly error.  There was no token overspend for this round so no one is disqualified.

Available Tokens:
Note: These are the tokens available to each driver before the 10 tokens are added for making the race start.

Phil,

I think I have 24 before the 10 are added for starting the next race.

Mike, I think it is 34 tokens.  Calculation below.

           50 initial allocation
+ (10 * 7)  start money for 7 races
- ( 2 * 1)   driven BT7 twice
- (3 * 18)  driven BT11 three times
- (2 * 15)  driven BRM twice

Leaves 34 tokens remaining

My mistake.
I didn't add 10 for starting race 1, I just had it down for 50 tokens.

Thanks Phil.
