Season 33 1966 F1 - Round 10 – SILVERSTONE
The final round in the 1966 Grand Prix series is at Silverstone, England. The venue for the 1954 British Grand Prix (the 1955 British Grand Prix was held at Aintree) the circuit is built on a disused airfield and comprises a mixture of sections of peri track and sections of runway. Silverstone was first used for motorsport by an ad hoc group of friends who, in September 1947, set up an impromptu race up and down the runway. The next year the Royal Automobile Club took a lease on the airfield and set out a more formal racing circuit. Their first two races were held on the runways themselves, with long straights separated by tight hairpin corners, the track was demarcated by hay bales. However, for the 1949 International Trophy meeting, it was decided to switch to the perimeter track. This arrangement was used for the 1950 and 1951 Grands Prix. In 1952 the start line was moved from the Farm Straight to the straight linking Woodcote and Copse corners, this layout remained largely unaltered for the following 38 years and will be the layout that we will be using tonight.

Handicapping and chassis allocation.
This season the 1966 F1 will be using a token system which allows drivers to purchase any chassis of their choice, 2 litre or 3 litre, for a given number of tokens as published on the championship standings page. Drivers classed as Amateurs will be allocated an additional 10 tokens.  The token allocation will not be managed in SRou this season so (unlike the 67F1 Works and 67F1 Privateer divisions) the tokens available to each driver will not appear in the championship table (when the mouse pointer is hovered over the driver's total).  Rather, the available tokens will be published in the race announcement.  See below.

Available Tokens:
Note: These are the tokens available to each driver before the 10 tokens are added for making the race start.

Boo camshaft gave up after 3 laps. Pity it was shaping up to be a good battle with Billy, Fran and Jack.  Never mind there is always next season!

Thanks for the races this season gents, there have been some good ones.

Apologies for being a mobile chicane in this race, but my head was just not screwed on. I was lapping about 2 secs off my normal pace and just could not get myself motivated.
To add to my problems my trusty G25 shifter has developed a hair trigger and sometimes shifts 2 gears up or down, that kind of took the shine off of any competitive driving plans. wacko

Sorry to Billy for almost taking him off, I had worked my way around the problems ( I thought  Undecided ) and found some speed at last. Worked a pass into Stowe then promptly spun the car at the next bend when I downshifted twice.  scared
Thought it better to park the car and walk back  Undecided

Heading into today's event, I only needed points for 9th place to clinch the season title no matter where Evil finished. Easy enough in a series where I'm almost always amongst the frontrunners, right? Well...

First off, apologies to anyone who was caught out by my constant disappearing act. If this race hadn't been crucial, I'd not have run at all. From the amount of time that everyone else was invisible (and I to them), I'm amazed I didn't get booted.

I did five qually laps, not a single one registered, and had "Pit In" on my board for the first five laps, replaced by "DQ" for the remainder, so no idea where I was or who I was fighting the entire race.  Huh

Add a still-sliding-around chair in front of a wobbly desk and my strongest emotion today was relief at the sight of the chequers, yet even that was tainted by still being shown (on my pitboard) in 13th place, not good enough.

But by the replay, I managed to finish in 8th place on the track, between Billy and Dave R., so that's one of three championships I led at some point this season I managed to hold onto. Smiley

Grats Dean on taking the silverware despite all of your recent difficulties.  Wink

Maybe I was so distracted by the random gear shift I had forgotten that there was an outside chance of stealing the championship, or alternatively, I am such a nice guy that as I had already picked up the 55 win I did not want to appear greedy??  Roll Eyes

Quite a busy race for me. Disappointed that Phil blew up early on as that could have been quite a battle. A few Pros conspired to have difficulties so I was actually in battles for position. Well done Dean on sticking it out. Hope you get your off track life sorted out soon.

Andreas put me out of the track on lap 2 or 3.
Maybe not directly but I have to leave the track to avoid a severe collision with him, I have to look at the replay.
I lost around 25 seconds and was running several laps on last position.

Sorry for that. I saw it on the Replay, think it was lap 4. Had a bad Start, then I was on the Outside at Copse with someone Inside. Somehow that made me spin and after that I was about last. Then I was in a hurry to get to the front again. Maybe I was to hot then and overdone it in some cases. Excuse me!

Gratulations for the Podium and Dean for the Championship!
