@Clive , no you met my good friend Roger Fish from Blackpool, Tim is a chap we only occasionally raced against, as he is in the South.
Here is distance grab of where Roger ended up when doing Lavant on his 1st practice at the same event  Roll Eyes

His damage was only minor cosmetic. Tim's was a write off.

IMPORTANT

For the attention of Dominick only

We have discovered a small glitch with your cars rev counter. I know it may be doubtful if your taking part or not, but if you are, you need to make this change to your car files.

In GameData/Teams/GTC-65/Ferrari/4219a replace the .CAR file with this

http://www.mediafire.com/file/h44kmzzzsgj537j/4219a_SIM_GTC_Ferrari.CAR/file

NOTE: Only Dominick's car needs this fix. All the other Ferrari's have been tested and are fine.

PS I have also pm'd Dominick with this message.

So it's finally race day

I hope everyone has been practicing their pit stops and have their car setups honed for top performance.

Just to say it's a long race and I do not wish to witness any silliness at lap 1, Turn 1  nono

Please all enjoy, as we do not get the chance to hold these type of races very often.

Good luck all or GLA as we like to say

Arnold claims that he has finely tuned my chariot, so that by utilising the latent tension in Mabel's knicker elastic, my car can be propelled  from the start grid at sufficient velocity to reach the chequered flag without any pitstops. Grin

I should point out that there is historical evidence to indicate that Arnold can talk absolute bo**ocks when he has had alcohol .......and over the Christmas period Arnold and Mabel have consumed dangerous amounts of intoxicating liquids. So, I might be making at least one precautionary stop for fuel and tyres.  Roll Eyes

Damn, I'm used to there always being something wrong with me medically but now my cars start suffering the same fate?  Undecided
Anyway, even outside of the dizziness issue I didn't feel up to it tonight. December with its stale, cold air is always a poor month for me.
But thanks for the information and effort of course. I hope it was a great conclusion of the SROUK GTL year. I'm bound to watch the replay.

After my long layoff from GTL that race was a complete disaster for me. My keyboard and as I discovered after the race, my mouse was only communicating intermittently with my PC. Hence when I stopped for fuel up I was not getting any. And things I thought I had cancelled (like a total body refurbishment, happened). It took me about half a dozen stops to realise this. Finally my pit crew refused point blank to refuel me (it must have been something I said)  cursing so I went out for a lap but ran out of fuel. I had done very little practice, only set the car up really. I felt very rusty. I must practice more before I race again.

I am wondering if when I loaded the setup it didn’t load. I just assumed it had when I clicked on it. The car seemed to be much more difficult to control than I had expected when I pushed. I spent as much time in the pits and on the grass as I did on the tarmac. With the pitting problems I must admit my concentration waned and so did my enthusiasm.  surrender I decided to use the race as practice. I tried the sand out and a couple of tyre barriers to rack up a few more varieties of off’s.  oops I have given the desktop receiver a wash and dusting and hope that does the trick.

I am not sure if my G27 has reverted to its old brake problem or not. I may have to employ the electrical contact cleaner again.  detective

Congratulations to all those who finished and those who put in quick laps and of course the winner and podiums.  clap

A Happy New Year to all  balloon

Huge thanks to Tony for organising such an interesting event...that was fun ( I think!! Roll Eyes )

Grats to Geoffers, Erling and Matt on the podium places and to all those who survived to the finish.

At least I managed to perform my pitstops without any issues, or SnG penalties  Grin Grin, that was a first for me.
My cunning plan to only take 3 stops and only one change of tyres proved to be a total disaster in terms of overall race pace.  Undecided Undecided

I knew that I could run at 1:23 pace if I used full revs and only extracted 22 laps per tankful, but that would mean 4 stops with a splash and go towards the end. But any excuse to avoid pitstops  was far too attractive, so I worked out that 25 laps was possible on a tankful if I was very careful. Then I would gain a HUGE amount of time by avoiding a whole stop wouldn't I???

In reality Geoffers and Erling were running at such a pace that they more than negated any advantage I might have gained. Added to that several mistakes on my part lost me the time I might have saved on a 3 stop strategy  Undecided

I feel I must apologise to Bob for rear ending his E type at the chicane in the early laps, I am feeling very guilty that he rolled in in last place and that the impact might have compromised his car. Bob is usually someone who is very cunning and quick and I fully expected him to be further up the field.

Thanks again to Tony for organising....can we have some more like this please?

Result

Cool

Desperately looking for a setup to bring my laptime under 1:24.5. Just before start of quali I found one
online and had my first and only lap with 1:23.9 which eventually made me very content.

Of course I could not match that time during race. First part was ok apart from an off in lap one.
After my first pitstop after lap 22 (only fuel, no tyres and no repair - which was a bad decision) I completely lost my rhythm  Angry
Due to some offs and lousy tyres I had to make my second pitstop around lap 33 and dropped to the end of the field.
During the rest of the race I felt more and more unfocused and tired  Tongue  and after some more offs, pitstops, more damages and a s&g
penalty I decided to retire after lap 78.

Thanks Tony for organizing this great event and all the past and forthcoming events.

Happy new year to you all. CU next week.  Smiley

Many thanks to Tony for organising this, long time since I have done such a long race.

Had done some practice for this about a week ago on full tanks with no problems, but in qually with low fuel I kept losing the rear on corner entry so had to add more coast diff & put brake bias more to the front. Needed a stable setup for such a long race.

Race plan was to do 22 lap stints & only change tyres at the second stop & hope & pray that the tyre drop off wasn't too dire. Got a good start but didn't want to mess up at T1 so let Ziu have the corner, followed him for a few laps & noticed he kept getting the chicane wrong, then about the 4th lap he clipped it & spun. Now in front, I had Dan & Erling close behind & a few laps later I ran a bit wide out of St Mary's & let them both past. Took many laps to catch back up with Dan who waved me past to chase Erling, who I just caught as he peeled off for the pits.

Fuel consumption was such that I got to lap 23 before pitting & came back out with quite a healthy lead, not sure how big though as one of those GTL glitches was showing Erling as DNF from the start. But as I could not see Erling behind I guessed he must have changed tyres at his stop so would probably be quicker than me for the next 20+ laps. Second stint went well until near the end when I caught Rog coming down to Woodcote, wasn't sure if he was letting me past or not but we collided at the first apex & both spun. Sorry Rog, I should have been a bit more careful cursing.

Rejoining, Erling was now in sight behind, but with only a couple more laps to the pitstop I held the lead. Second stop went OK with a tyre change this time & I rejoined just a few seconds ahead. I could judge my lead each lap at the chicane & it seemed to be increasing bit by bit. Erling again stopped earlier than me at the third stop & again changed tyres I guess as I lapped him as he came out of the pits. Next lap though I clipped the chicane entrance on the right & spun, fortunately not hitting anything & not losing too much time & as I had lost speed decided to pit. Just fuel again & away still ahead.

Last part of the race was uneventful, only concerns were would the tyres hold out & how far was I in front. Last splash & dash went well & with no sign of Erling in my mirrors I could afford to not push too hard over the last 10 laps. So in the end I came home just 7s ahead after nearly two & a half hours racing, phew!  sweatdrop

Congrats to Erling & Matt on the podium & well done to all who made the finish.  clap clap clap

Happy New Year to all & cya all on Wednesday for the start of Season 19.  thumbup2

Big thanks to Tony for organizing this marathon - had a very tired brake foot when we finished last night  Smiley

Once again I qualified just 0.1 sec ahead of Dan, only to be completely demolished at the start.  Dan, have to ask; how do you get off the line so fast ?  I drop my clutch pedal the moment we get the 'go' signal, but before my car even starts to move, you've shot 2 meters ahead  Shocked  If it can be done so much faster, I must be doing something very wrong.  Followed the lead group, and as Geoffers mentioned, Ziu clipped the barrier in the chicane and spun, letting our Ferrari trio past.  Geoffers first let Dan through to take the lead, and later had a moment at the chicane letting me through too.

Chased Dan for a couple of laps before he seemingly waved me through down the back straight.  Puzzled, as I could see no reason he should do that ?    Held the lead for the rest of the stint, but towards the end, Geoffers had caught up.  I was struggling with tyre wear, but regrettably for me, Geoffers seemed completely unperturbed by it.  Whether to change tyres or not in each pit stop had been my big dilemma. Given the above, I expected Geoffers not to change his, but still stuck to my original plan and changed mine in all but the last stop.  Had hoped to reel in Geoffers again, once his tyres went off, but while I closed the gap a little on some laps, it wasn't nearly enough.  How he could maintain his pace on tyres that had done a double stint is beyond me; he's either the king of driving the Ferrari on worn tyres, or he's the king of setting it up with minimal tyre wear, if that's possible.

Rest of the race went into a pattern:  I would drop a few places at each pit stop, as others went longer, only to find myself back in 2nd chasing Geoffers once everyone had done their stops.

Big grats to Geoffers on an other unbeatable performance, and to Matt - impressive pace in that E-Type!     Grats also to everyone who made it to the finish - given the length, there were remarkably few early retirees  Smiley

Happy New Year to all.

Regarding the tyre wear Erling. Not sure I'm a demon at driving quick on worn tyres or if my setup minimised tyre wear, but I didn't really find it too much of a problem. Goodwood is quite a high grip circuit & I guess masks the tyre wear issues & I never found it difficult to keep the car going where I wanted. The front left was the only tyre that seemed to take a lot of punishment & wear was nearly 30 on XD by the end after 54 laps on that set. What was noticeable was the drop off in lap time, although that was only 1 to 1.5s per lap towards the end.

To be honest I did not know if the one tyre change strategy would work, had not tried it when practicing, maybe on a different track it would not have worked.  Huh
