Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 40s

Dan Minton does a standing start, making no attempt to return to correct position or even wait for the rest of the drivers to catch up. The rules clearly state start procedures and everyone is to read them before joining any SimRacing events. The huge advantage Dan Minton gains leaves me with no alternative but to disqualify him.

  • Dan Mintonpenalty — Incorrect start procedure and start position — excluded

Server replay time: 40s

djbully does a standing start, he realises his mistake and pulls over to retake his correct place on warm up lap. The rules clearly state start procedures and everyone is to read them before joining any SimRacing events. As Bully did stop and retake his correct place almost immediately, a 2 place penalty has been dropped to a warning.

  • Bullywarning — Incorrect start procedure.
For advice only - unreported by victim, so penalty disregarded

Server replay time: 50s

Complaints from several drivers that [GS]PRRibeiro was constantly using chat messages during race, generally "blue flag" messages to lapped drivers. I know that Ribeiro was involved in a very close fight with myself for 4th then 3rd place, however this does not mitigate the fact that in game chat during race is not permitted.

Server replay time: 72s

Edam Speed moves up 1 place during warm up lap, returns to correct position at 103s then retakes place again at 125s. There may have been some confusion caused by Dan Minton moving everyone down a place during warm up, however, drivers should be aware of their place on the grid at race start and not be swapping places during the warm up lap. If you're unsure, stay where you are and report incident to race moderator after race.

  • EdamSpeedpenalty — Incorrect start position, 1 place gained during warm up. — 2 places lost
For advice only - unreported by victim, so penalty disregarded

Server replay time: 280s

MichaelB and Mad-RIP are racing down the S/F straight. Mad-RIP outbrakes Michael from quite a way back but does get inside Michael under control for the hairpin. As Michael turns in there is slight side contact. Both drivers continue racing without problems.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 341s

MichaelB and Mad-RIP are are driving down the S/F straight, Mad is setting up for a pass. As the enter the braking zone Mad pulls out to out brake Michael, goes a little to wide, locks up and goes straight through the hairpin.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 1428s

Shark brakes slightly late and taps the rear of [GS]PRRibeiro going into the tight right before the S/F straight. Ribeiro continues without a problem, Shark spins out. As this resulted in an accident for the perpetrator not the victim, penalty dropped to 1 place lossed rather than the normal 2.

  • Simon Gymer (Shark)penalty — Late braking resulting in rear impact — 1 place lost
For advice only - unreported by victim, so penalty disregarded

Server replay time: 1532s

Ruskus is behind Don and looking to lap him, as they approach the left hander Don appears momentarily to be leaving the door open for Ruskus to get by but is only setting himself up for the corner, Ruskus locks up under braking and hits Dons rear sending him off. Drivers are reminded that it is the lapping drivers responsibilty to pass slower drivers safely and not try to force a way past or be overly aggressive where there isn't a passing opportunity.

  • Jeffrey (Ruskus)penalty — Rear impact resulting in victim spinning off — 2 places lost
For advice only - unreported by victim, so penalty disregarded

Server replay time: 2271s

Madd-RIP has spun off from 15th place, he rejoins by driving straight back across the racing line leaving Shark in 6th place with nowhere to go, there is a considerable side impact and Shark is lucky to lose no more than a few seconds to the car ahead. Madd-RIP had a clear line of sight down the track and should have rejoined only when safe to do so.

  • Madd-RIPpenalty — Poor rejoin resulting in collision. — 2 places lost

Why on earth does the export have me qualifying in 3rd when I didn't Huh Does it just go by fastest times set in the session regardless of if they make the race or not?

Yes. I don't think the GTL exports have reliable grid slot information beyond what's in the qualifying data.

Saw loads of lagging going on, cars were spawning in front and behind me constantly towards the end. Sad

I saw just one disco'd car, I had no other problems at all which is very unusual given how ropey my bit of ADSL string is these days! I reckon you all need to turn down your levels of detail. Tongue

That was a much better race for me than round 1. Got off to a reasonable start and despite the tyres going a bit wobbly half way through Paul968 was the only car with enough speed to get past after pressuring me into running wide. Quite pleased to get 8th place, a solid improvement on my grid slot.

Your lapchart export is fine Ruskus Smiley it's the official one on the results page that has me down in 3rd for quali.

And from my point of view it correctly states that you set the third fastest time in qualifying, which you did.

It also correctly shows you as a Did Not Start.

Ended up having a cracking battle with Don, but I just could not get past him!  With the top 6-7 drivers coming round behind us and past us, it was a close run thing with Don running out the winner between the two of us.  We might have traded paint, but nothing serious.

Probably the most fun I've had with you guys so thanks again.

Well driven Adam.
Sorry I was a driving a little defensive at not letting you pass, but full marks to you totally gentlemanly behaviour Wink
Got shunted and shafted a few too many times for my liking, but maybe thats the nature of TC65 and maybe I'm just going to have to live with it.
I was getting lots of said lag and high pings and frozen cars from the start which didn't help.
Np madd I've been there.

If you're going to point the finger- at least say why we might be responsible for the lagginess!  Angry  Roll Eyes  Tongue

I think it's something more than just detail levels or dodgy connections. A large number of people saw the warping cars last night and we were nowhere near server capacity- evidenced by the solid pings. Could all of Europes' internet network be having a bad day last night? Actually, perhaps that's entirely possible!

Decided to join at the last minute, and no practice and 3 qual laps meant I started 15th. Then had a real struggle looking for a way past FliBri. Got past after many laps when he went off, and then made 4 places in one corner when the group ahead all got tangled up. Spent a long time after that chasing down Dave G, only to mess up and throw away all the good work. Did it all again and just as the battle was about to start Dave obligingly ran wide - shame really. At the same time JonnyDee had dropped back to just in front, and we had 6 or 7 laps of intense racing, ending in a spin from Jonny when out of position. The last bit should have been a cruise to the finish, but Mark J lost it ahead and rejoined as I came past. He managed to keep the place but we were right together into the last corner on the last lap. He took it tighter than I expected, not using all the track, which meant I gave him a slight tap, and the split second it took for him to gather it up was all it took to give me the place. To be honest I don't think this was particularly fair on Mark, so I'm quite happy if Dave wants to juggle the results to put Mark in 6th. Thx to all for some great racing anyway.

Not sure we will ever know Paul. As with all internet games we just have to put up with these things, it's a fact of life that the internet can't sustain the same speed and packet success 100% of the time. Internet games do their best but they are at the mercy of the internet.

No fault or blame intended, I was curious as until last week's GTR race I don't recall having a problem importing results because one player had multiple slot entries in the export file. All the league events, fun or otherwise, have been run on the new server for the last 2 weeks or so. Last night was the first time several people have reported issues.

Multiple slots are nearly always down to people leaving and joining again.

In the practice/qualification sessions yes but not in the race data!

...I reckon you all need to turn down your levels of detail. Tongue

First thing I thought of when I read through all this... I was doing praccy on here and noticed a 24 FPS on T1 offline with my normal settings. When I joined the UKGTL server it was down to 15 FPS in T1. Quit, lowered all settings to almost absolute minimum, track detail especially for my system and went back online... Voila 71 FPS in the same corner! Smiley
I know that in FPS (1st person shooter) games high graphics settings can cause loads of lag. Top players therefore play 800*600 resolution in Q4/2k4 still with details on low (most). Problem being that when the CPU is calculating all this nice eye-candy-nonsense... It's forgetting about the rather more usefull packets to the server Smiley, hence people warping all over the place when it finally does sent the right stuff to the main server! Smiley

On topic Wink :
Quali went pwetty good for me, 4th place till last lap of Loc, which was funny to see, only about 18/100 between us, n1 m8. Start was completely bonkers imo... Admins should prolly shout ROLLING START ROLLING START ROLLING START until timer reaches 3 secs or so...
And speaking of shouting... For a bunch of people it's good I never applied and (prolly therefore Wink) never got a job as moderator... I was quite certain I had closed IRC before starting up GTL, but some n00bs almost made me doubt that Huh Really friggin annoying tbh.
And speaking of annoying... Some1 thinks warming up brakes and tyres is best done on the warmup lap by accelerating 2 fast for his 60s! brakes to stop him and then drive into the back of the guy in front Huh Tx...

Don't believe in this penalty system as it is used at the moment, so cba to report any crap, I'll just try to drive like I've been doing, slow but gentlemanly Smiley.

Positive note... Nice lapchart again Rusk.
