Moderator's Report

Both the Privateers & Works saw three Eagles on the podium. Congratulations to Ricardo who won from P2 on the grid. Dulima and Fran were 2nd and 3rd.
No report incidents for this race. There were three Resets. Stop & Gos were complied with although Dave Curtis crashed on the last lap. A time penalty of 15s would apply, but this makes no difference to the final result.

Season 34 PRIVATEERS – Round 3 –  Tripoli

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT Due to the number of registrations for this series we will be splitting into two grids for the rest of the sesaon. All drivers have been allocated to either Works or Privateers & Privateers have been contacted by private message. If you don’t know check the link for Driver Lists below. If you have not already voted to join the Privateers championship you will need to do so to see the password. Privateers will use the server UKGPL10 & Works UKGPL4.

For Round 3 we visit the very fast circuit at Mellaha Lake,Tripoli. The track was a 13.140 kilometer (8.165 mi) long affair situated in a salt basin between Tripoli, Suq al Jum'ah and Tajura and around the Mellaha Air Base. The track's most distinctive landmark was a brilliant white concrete tower situated across from a large frontstretch grandstand that could hold up to ten thousand people. Mellaha Lake was equipped with starting lights, an innovation, and the additional amenities rivaled the best that continental European circuits had to offer. Back in the late thirties this was the fastest track of the world.

Privateer Drivers are permitted 1 Shift R followed by a Stop & Go in the stalls in pit lane within 2 laps (its does not have to be your stall). Failure to make a stop will result in a 30 second time penalty. If you require a stop & go on the final lap & are unable to complete a time penalty of 15 secs is added.

Replays can be found by clicking on the link in the top left corner of the UKGPL homepage.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Sorry to those I inconvenienced on lap 1. I thought I had slowed down enough but ran wide & then span across the track. After that I lost concentration & span off twice more - wrecking an expensive Eagle in the process.
Just not happening for me tonight.

I saw you spinning and realised you would roll back across the track and into my path so I slowed right down and would not have hit you but I got rear ended Huh.  Needed a shift-R. Took a S&G and ended up a long way back.  I was catching the rear of the pack when my engine exploded. Hadn't done that in praccy or qually so just unlucky I guess. Unless it had something to do with flooring a cold engine after the Shift-R.  The 30 Seconds at the start warming the engine makes a difference.

I have confused a curve for another and made an S&G.I risked to lose the 3th position conquered with effort.
Chosen the Eagle for a strange teory to be demostrated. The first 2 race, with the Brabham,i was with only 4 gears.
The hypothesis is :when i join online there is confusion between 55 and 67 mod.Brabham=Vanwall 4 gears,Eagle=Maserati 5 gears.
To confirm or deny this hypothesis ,the next race i should enter with a Brabham and than,if have 4 gears again, change the car.Is possible?

I know Tripoli isn't the place to take a Cooper but I've never used anything but a Coop in the UKGPL. I hoped I could get through without being lapped, but that turned out to be a lost dream. I wasn't caught up in the actual kerfluffle at the bottom of the hill on L1 --- stopping just in time to avoid contact --- but in resuming my timing and concentration were a bit rattled and within the next 15 seconds I'd lost it, banging into the posts on the left side of the track. The car suffered some obvious damage, so I did a CTRL-R and took the S&G at the end of the first lap. After that, it was just looping and hoping to stay out of further trouble.  The only cars I ever saw again were the two who caught me with a few laps to go.

Provided you don't post a qualifying time you are allowed to change chassis after having joined the server. This is intended to accommodate drivers who make a genuine mistake selecting the correct chassis in IGOR but if you need to to join to test your gears (which you can do in the pit lane) I'm sure nobody would complain.

Congratulations to the podium, I really like this track, eagle was great for me, I just had to manage the advantage and keep the same pace, I do not see it in nuburging.

Well, that was the first official outing for UKGPL_10 - so hopefully no issues for anyone.
Although, it looked as though Bill had disconnected/reconnected a few times - so hopefully not anything to be aware of?

--

Well done podium - some scary-looking times there!

Congrats Fran, you were quicker than me (I was watching you closing in)  although I knew that I would not be able to hold you off once you got another couple of seconds closer. That was even with managing a personal fastest lap when you were really close!

I got a bit greedy with speed & ran wide at the corner with the hitchhiker,  but managed to keep out of the trees,  so you got past 1/4 of a lap sooner than it would have been Smiley

At that time, I was more than happy with a potential 4th.  But managed to just go off on 'that' right-hander near the underpass.  Thought it would be quicker to drive round,  but trashed the car in the trees & needed a reset.  Dumb move - that cost 2 real places!

Still happy enough to have completed race distance.  I had planned to join the Eagle fan-club,  but in testing I only managed 1.2 seconds quicker.  I figured I may as well save the tokens as a result, especially if I did not make it to half distance.

Cheers all,
Dave.

Dave, thanks for the server. It had a very solid debut. My reconnections were to reboot the steering wheel, nothing server related.

Fran, I can confirm you can change cars at the next race. As Phil says don't ser a lap time until you gave decuded. It should be easy at the Nurburgring.

Bob, why don't you try another car? You have plenty of tokens. You should find the handling of the Brabham quite similar to the Cooper. I use almost the same set up for both. If you want I can share some set ups.
