race of two halves for me. Turned up late with no practise, was very surprised to find i had never raced the cup car at Brands before  Shocked so didnt even have a setup. Used one i had for zandvoort and qualified 5th i think.

First half of the race i was able to keep with the front 3 or 4 and was quite enjoying myself. But about mid race my concentration started to wane as i wasnt match fit after a week away supping vino and relaxing, plus i was starting to bake in the Rift. Did a bit of grass cutting when Max re-caught me and also had a couple of oversteer moments exiting surtees which dropped me back a couple of secs and then finding myself in no mans land with nobody to challenge i just carried on to the finish a bit bored. No idea how i ended up 20 secs back from the guys i'd kept in view for the first 20 minutes. Think my setup wasnt optimum but hey ho.

Finished 5th.  Smiley

Well that was a rather manic sunday evening drive.

First off apologies to FMG,  I think I might have unintentionally held you up in qually while I was warming my tyres, before diving out of the way at pilgrims drop  Sad

The race, oh boy.  Start was ok,  I drove a sensible first lap after the green flag, watching FMG in the mirror and going to a defensive line in a couple of turns where he looked like he might pounce, and then slowly started to ease a gap. Then OMG, complete brain failure and spun my self into the gravel at Stirlings,  What a plum!  I had to wait for the whole field to pass before it was safe to rejoin the track,  so 1st to last in 1 corner.
Annoyed, it was time to try and undo as much damage as possible, so I set off after the pack.  Getting back to 5th wasn't too hard, although its never easy passing identical cars cleanly, but then it got harder, the top 4 were circulating at a fast pace in a group and I had to pick them off 1 at a time, and each time I got past one I lost contact with the few in front and had to close it down again. FMG was probably the hardest (and most fun), huge respect to you sir, half a lap side by side through the turns is just thumbup2 , knowing you wont give up but at the same time I can trust you to leave just enough room that we don't have a problem  I Am Not Worthy
Simon was next, and again it wasn't easy, you were running a fast pace all night and finding that gap to get by took some work. Hawthorns was my lucky corner for overtakes though  Grin
Now there was 6(ish) minutes to go and only NFSW in front by a couple of seconds or so. I could close the gap but my rear tyres were starting to complain and every time I got closer I would then undo it by having a slide and loosing a bit again, so in the end I came home second only just behind.   I'll take that as an OK return on a big error, and much fun was had in making it happen  Smiley

Vallelunga next eh, should be interesting with those technical corners...

Another great race in these most excellent cars. Always love Brands Hatch and knew even with no practice I would be ok here, but wasn't expecting to be able to run with the usual front runners, so that was a nice change.  Grin

After others made mistakes I hung onto the tailpipes of the leader and put him under as much pressure as I could. It was never quite enough and in the last 10 minutes with the tyres going off I found it a bit harder to be consistent and with a small mistake it let Max through to take 2nd off me. Then for a lap or two after that I was then struggling for pace which let Tim near again, but I was able to push again once I re-settled to hang on to 3rd for my best finish of the season so far.

Not a fan of Vallelunga, never worked out how to drive very well there in any car, so I suspect I'll be a little bit off the leaders next time out and probably in no-mans land.
