Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 0h01m45s

One reported incident : Bastian vs Francesco on 1st lap after 1mn45sec.

Bastian loose control at Ostkurve.

First he made a contact with Tristan and Tristan spun (finally Tristan won the race)

Then Bastian went out of the track and, still with no car control, he came back and cross the track and there was a fatal collision with Francesco who have to retired.

Iestyn and Andreas where also impacted by this incident but without heavy consequences (at least for Andreas who finished 2nd of the race).

if Bastian had braked a little more when coming into Ostkurve all this would not have happened.
He lost control when he lifted the throttle...

So according to the rules : marginal side by side contact with Tristan : One driver looses control and strays from their side of the track. Contact is made. Warning for driver that moves over.

And then Unavoidable Bad Rejoin: Racing Incident

Season 34 Historic Trophy – Round 6 – HOCKENHEIM

The sixth race in the 1966 Grand Prix series takes us to Hockenheim in Germany. The track was originally called "Dreieckskurs" (triangle course) and was built in 1932 using roads in the forest as an alternative to the Wildpark-Circuit in Karlsruhe. The track was used for motorcycle racing and was expanded to be used as test track for Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union in 1936. In 1938 the track was drastically shortened to 7.5 kilometres and it was renamed the "Kurpfalzring". This name was used until 1947 when the unchanged layout was renamed again to "Hockenheimring". This version of the circuit, which was used in 1955, consisted of the original two long straights, with the Ostkurve in the forest and the original hairpin inside Hockenheim joining them together. In 1965, when the new Autobahn A 6 separated the village from the main part of the track, an updated version of Hockenheim circuit was built, which incorporated a new "Motodrom" stadium section. Two fast chicanes were added after Jim Clark was killed on 7 April 1968 in a Formula 2 racing accident.  A small memorial was placed at the site of his accident near the first chicane. In order to improve safety even further, the track was lined with crash barriers in 1970. But the track was still dangerous and claimed the life of Patrick Depailler in 1980. So in 1982, the first chicane was made slower and a third chicane was added at the Ostkurve (east curve). In the early 2000s, Formula 1 officials demanded the 6.823 km (4.240 mi) track be shortened and threatened to discontinue racing there.  So the state government of Baden-Württemberg secured the financing for a redesign by Hermann Tilke ready for the 2002 German Grand Prix. The new "Tilke Track" was not universally popular and many drivers preferred the long circuit. Sadly the old circuit was torn up and replanted with trees thereby preventing any chance of reinstating the long circuit for Formula 1 or indeed using it for historic car races.

Tonight we will be using the 1967 version of the long track that doesn't have the three chicanes.

There is no Red Zone. Moderating will be on reported incidents only. Remember that lap 1 incidents carry an additional penalty place.

The chassis token system is explained on the Historics Trophy standings page.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

A driver must have sufficient tokens for the chassis he drives in the race.  Any driver who does not have sufficient tokens will be disqualified from the result and his tokens will be set to zero.

The chassis a driver uses in qualifying are disregarded when determining his token spend.
Note:  This is to cater for the instances when a driver either does not start or inadvertently joins with the wrong chassis and subsequently rejoins the server in another.

Any tokens not spent at the end of the season are ignored and are not used to determine championship positions in the event of a tie.

PRO rules means Shift-Rs are not allowed at any time and the damage model is realistic.

Drivers must complete 50% race distance to score.

Available Tokens:
Note: These are the tokens available to each driver before the 10 tokens are added for making the race start.

Thought I would have a setup here, but it turns out I had only raced the Lotus 43 (probably in a UKGPL race a long time ago). Probably should have taken that car, but I wanted to try the Ferrari 312 as it is best suited for this track.

Downloaded a Paul Skingley setup and set about tweaking it for the race. Tried to re-calibrate my wheel and it was looking for the old G25 for some odd reason (no pedals), so I had to rejoin and that left me only with time for an outlap.

Start went well and I was right in middle of the train going into Ostkurve. If I had been a little less on Bastian's tail then I could have made it though, but span in avoidance. Made it up to 2nd on the next lap and just had to hold on to chase down Axel and fight for the win. I had wanted to just not make a major error and thus I did that on lap 4, catching the LR tyre on the grass into Ostkurve and losing a wheel. PS setups do like to hang the rear out to dry, heh.  laugh

Cookie had the same spin later on, but survived, as he span from the tarmac and was thus able to hit the fence side on. It turned into a race of attrition in the end and it was silly of me to lose it so early!

Bad start in front of me, there was some kind of heavy traffic on the first straight.

Sorry to Fran and Tris, i touched the inside gravel in Ostkurve and lost control.
Out of Race for two of us.

Grats to Tris and finishers.
I tried the 3 litre Brabham, just for something different. But maybe I had the gears wrong, or just the wrong car ( or driver!!  Roll Eyes ).

Got a reasonable start behind Axel's Ferrari, but was caught out at T1 when he was slower than I expected. The sudden lift and tweak on the steering to avoid Axel, upset the car and I ended up on the grass as everyone swept past.
So dead last by quite a distance  Undecided But when I arrived at the Ostkurve there were cars everywhere!! I managed to pick my way through and was back up to 3rd??
Like Iestyn, I had intended to try and avoid mistakes.... I failed, and a few "offs" dropped me back to battle with Andreas and David in their Coopers. This is where I discovered just how much raw speed those Coopers had and I could not pass them even with slipstream!! Through the stadium and Ostkurve the Brabham was quicker, but I had no defence against that speed on the straights so a battle continued and my only hope was to make a pass into the stadium on the last lap.
Unfortunately I got too close and hit the rear of Andreas. Apologies for that Andreas but at least you were able to finish, but my car was dead.

I thought that you had the 2.7 Brabham because of your poor topspeed.  Grin Had good luck there at Sachskurve and was able to finish, thats the most important.  Cool Only worry was not to be overtaken by Dave, in the end it was only 2 seconds. Grats to all Finishers: Three Cooper of the Black Nights in the Topthree.  punk

Great team performance to lock out the podium places.

I had problems with the Ostcurve for the whole race. Worked out afterwards that it was a lot more stable & generally faster by extending 3rd gear!

As mentioned above the Coopers did very well here, although I had enough tokens in the bank for the V12 Ferrari. A fortunate tow from Andreas on the last qualifying lap lifted promoted me halfway up the grid. Losing a few places off the start line was actually a good thing as I managed to avoid the Ostcurve crashfest on lap one. I did, however, have a couple of hairy spins later on & finally ripped off a wheel on the 21st lap.
Back to the 2.7L Brabham for the next race - not so competitive but it does tend to get me to the flag.

I've loaded the chassis the drivers used into the token calculator spreadsheet.  For the next race the available tokens will be as declared in the table below (the table will also appear in the next race announcement).  The calculated values are automated but selecting the cars is a manual process so please check your tokens to make sure I haven't made a silly error.  There was no token overspend for this round so no one is disqualified.
