Season 34 PRIVATEERS – Round 7 –  Montlhery

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT Due to the number of registrations for this series we will be splitting into two grids for the rest of the sesaon. All drivers have been allocated to either Works or Privateers. If you don’t know check the link for Driver Lists below. If you have not already voted to join the Privateers championship you will need to do so to see the password. Privateers will use the server UKGPL10 & Works UKGPL4.

Autodrome de Montlhéry (established 4 October 1924) is a motor racing circuit, officially called L’autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry, located south-west of the small town of Montlhéry about thirty kilometres (19 miles) south of Paris. It was initially called Autodrome Parisien, and had especially high banking. A road circuit was added in 1925.
The first race there, the 1925 French Grand Prix, was held on 26 July 1925 and organised by The Automobile Club de France Grand Prix. It was a race in which Robert Benoist in a Delage won; Antonio Ascari died in an Alfa Romeo P2. The Grand Prix revisited the track in 1927 and each year between 1931 and 1937.

Privateer Drivers are permitted 1 Shift R followed by a Stop & Go in the stalls in pit lane within 2 laps (its does not have to be your stall). Failure to make a stop will result in a 30 second time penalty. If you require a stop & go on the final lap & are unable to complete a time penalty of 15 secs is added.

Replays can be found by clicking on the link in the top left corner of the UKGPL homepage.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Downloaded the track last night & found out there are some very tricky corners. The turn at the end of the main straight is like driving a race car on a roller coaster. Advice 1) practice & 2) avoid a big pile up on lap 1.

The most dangerous place should be the exit of "cuvette de Couard" :

This track should be treated with great respect. I find it a cross between Monaco and Syracuse, witha touch of the Daytona banking thrown in for good measure.
Do not be tempted to leap out of cuvette de Couard (the "bomb hole"), because you have far less than 50% chance of regaining control before the right hand bend that follows, a careful entry into it would be wise too.

Around the rest of the circuit there are walls and trees that can end your race too..............Just be careful guys if you want to reach the chequered flag.  Wink

oh - bugger!
Despite having a server up for a while (although I forgot to set it again after some power maintenance earlier today...) I've not actually driven here yet.

Tomorrow then!  (Unlimited resets for Privs... right? Smiley )

Cheers,
Dave.

Great picture David! Looks like the track is quite accurate to your picture as well.

Going well in practice during the week with 2,34 lap, but just didn't work on race day. Nice track but some of the corners are just too brutal.

. . . another race thrown away.

At least you had a chance to race. I didn't, because I stupidly believed that when the race schedule says GMT, it means GMT and not London time. So I dutifully showed up at five minutes before 2100 GMT and I see that the race is practically over. But this really is my fault, I think, because this isn't the first time this kind of crap has been pulled on me.

Unlike some of you guys, the only way I can stay even marginally competitive in this game is to practice my ass off. That doesn't mean downloading the track on the afternoon of the race and doing two practice laps. It means putting in 10-20 hours of serious effort, culminating in a full-length race against a complete field of AIs. I do this with a religious zeal in every race I enter both here and in oAo, and I've been following that custom for more than three years now.

So when I show up and am as ready as I can be, perhaps you can appreciate my frustration when you've begun the contest an hour earlier than you said you would.
