Got discoed 100 metres from the finish so I couldn't save my replay. So that looks like my last lap won't count. Pity as I'd passed Dave for a place when he went off at Lavant Corner  Roll Eyes

I could have done without some dormant part of my brain suddenly waking up & shouting "Just a couple more corners!  Take it easy! Just don't run wide there... oh... here..."

I was speed-shifting to try & get close to you  - just in case there was a last chance... You were right there, then not.  Unlucky.

Anyway, Phil - thanks for unintentionally getting me to join a few of the events.

I wasn't going to,  but was at a loose end Sunday afternoon so jumped on the practice server as I have missed the 65s this season.
As we traded fastest laps, it became exciting so I thought I may even join the evening event if a slot was available.

When I realised that tonight was F2 & standard,  had a bit of a practice last night & thought that may also be worth a go.
So thanks again!  I enjoyed these events - was a privilege to be on track with talent!

Congrats to the champion & all other warriors.

Cheers,
Dave.

I wanted to drive at least once in this series but I after blowing an engine & driving like a complete idiot I decided am early retirement was the best option. Some awesome times at the front of the grid!

Congratulations to Robert on winning this race and the Trophy with a dominant series of wins.  I Am Not Worthy

Going in to this race I knew that to have any hope of prising the trophy from Robert's grasp, I would have to finish first and he would have to retire and score zero points. Of course, neither happened  Undecided

Well, that was a dream that almost turned into a nightmare when the screen froze during qualifying and I had to do a CTRL/ALT/DEL and crash the PC. When I rebooted my wheel had lost complete calibration and FF  scared with just 5 mins left. I had to reboot yet again and hope that it sorted itself.

With 3 mins left I got back to the server, but the wheel was off center. So went through the calibration and got it ( almost ) straight with a few seconds left. Fortunately despite leaving the server my one quali lap was still standing and it kept me on the front row.
I'm not sure why but the Lotus seemed very slow to warm it's tyres and the first two laps were like skating on ice. My only consolation was that Robert appeared to be struggling as well.
But then, just like the previous races Robert proved that he was just the little smoother/faster/ and more consistent than I was, and he eased away. Until he had a moment at the chicane and the gap closed. He eased away again but got tangled with a backmarker at Woodcote and I was able to steal the lead. I was driving on the limit, instead of keping it smooth and Robert was on my tail within a few laps. Eventually, ambition exceeded ability at Madgewicks and I ran wide, gifting Robert his rightful place  Wink
Another error allowed Robert to escape and I know that he tried to give me the win at the flag, but it was not deserved by me so I forced him to go over the line first  Grin

4 races and 4 wins for Robert proved that he was the master alien. I tried my best to pressure him in all the races but I think it shows that I need to do much more practice if I am going to have even a chance of matching his WR pace.

Many thanks to all who took part in these 4 races and I hope that you felt it a fitting tribute to Joe "Beefpie" Shaw. The sprint races felt very intense and competitive and the different cars hopefully presented a challenge.

Didn't get a clean lap in quali, had a freeze and later traffic,  but my first timed lap was enough still.

At the start took T1 too tight, and ran wide, but Clive didn't take profit. It was a bit of a ragged race for me, as I did a Kubica (or Leclerc) at the final chicane hitting the wall at the inside apex. Just could rejoin in front of Clive, and was incredibly lucky not to have damage! Then some laps later caught Fransesco, but misunderstood his intentions. When I chose the inside line he also did do so, and I clipped his rear. Sorry Fran... He suffered more than me, but I still lost the lead and time.

Then it was fun to chase Clive, even when I had more pace, it's very hard to pass here. So I just settled behind him waiting for a mistake. That happened out of T1 and inherited the lead. Set a decent fast lap considering I wasn't into a good rhythm, and decided to slow last few laps. Didn't want to get involved in the fight in front of me, and I had a big enough lead. Then waited for Clive at the final straight, but he chose not to accept the gift, so I won again...

For next year, please handicap me, it's much more fun for me to be in the mix more. In one league I drive the BRM, in an other the Honda, whole season. That said, it's very neat this is being organized every year. Arguably you guys didn't expect me to attend, since I'm not a regular anymore here at UKGPL.

Thanks all for racing and honouring Joe's remembrance. Thanks to Clive and Axel for organizing, and congrats to Clive and Bastian!

For future races like the JSMT, we would like to see more Am drivers taking part because these events should not be just for the aliens and PRO drivers.

If you are an Am driver ( or a PRO driver with a good idea...I guess they do exist?  Wink ) please post your views here. What would encourage AM's to feel that they had a genuine chance to compete for podiums against the fast guys?

We have tried many handicap systems in terms of cars, or SnG's. Just about the only thing we have not really explored is pitstops, but I know that a great many drivers do not like making stops like this.

So if you have a cunning plan, share it with the rest of UKGPL and we can perhaps try it out in a fun race.

Meanwhile I am going to do some hard thinking about how to provide Robert Fleurke with a 3 wheeled BRM, with dodgy brakes and not enough fuel for next years JSMT!!!

It was a pleasure to drive the trophy, i had some good consistent races.

I never had the honour to drive with Joe Shaw - all the best wishes to him and thx for the event.

Grats to Robert and Clive. Overall third is more than i could expect.
