Well, I've spent a little over an hour in each car today, and am not so much amazed by the Porsche being fastest (the design is a good 5 years newer than the GT40, so it should be on a 'short' track) but by where it's faster.
The Porsche simply destroys the big Ford under acceleration (really not expected) and top speed, and then brakes much later just to really rub it in.
Really strangely however, the GT40 is actually the fastest car through the bends - especially high speed corners...

The times on S-tracker are pretty much right, the Pork should drop into the high 2:35's with a good lap (I kept nearly doing it and then messing up), while the Ford might go as low as a 2:36.5 on the race setup, it should get much closer to 2:35's in qually trim with the rev limit removed.

Driving wise the Porsche is just a joy to throw around, in the slower stuff you just trail brake into a corner, find the angle you want, and then power out in a beautiful easy slide. In the higher speed sections it isn't so great - I've improved the understeer a bit but still have no choice other than to just wait before I can accelerate Roll Eyes
The Ford on the other hand is very clumsy. If you drive it in a modern grip style then you'll be lucky to get into the 2:38's, ALL of it's pace is found through 4 wheel drift. And thanks to the open diff and all that torque, it really isn't very user friendly over the hill at Eau Rouge or through the slow hairpins at Bruxelles and La Source, or especially in the chicane onto the S/F straight. And then there are the brakes - truly woeful, It's impossible to lock a wheel unless you unload it first - which is very easy to do entering Double Gauche and then causes you to miss the first apex by about half a track width Cheesy

All comments above are based on my 30ltr test/race setups, I expect the Ford to get a slight advantage under full race fuel loads as it has the added torque to shift the weight. Ford best lap still had about 15ltrs in the tank, Porsche ran out of fuel just after crossing the line for it's fastest....

Should be a good fun race on Weds Cool

Some days ago i've done 15-16 laps of practice in GT40 in setup findings. And it was no one valid lap. If i've passed a red water , i'll take a cut in any other turn   Grin
It's impossible for me to love this cars, but i've really tryed. Tongue

Just got back from Spa. Smiley Sorry to hear there is such a noticeable gap between the two cars, I thought they were meant to be similar pace wise based on feedback from here before  Undecided
But seriously just take the car you want to race with, it’s a non-championship race. Hopefully we will get a handful of each  Smiley

I may be free Wednesday now, but can't get the Porsche to turn.

Anyone care to donate a base setup that knows what a corner is?

Niki Lauda is gone.. God will take your soul in safely place... I love him more than all other legends racers. Because he had a proper brain structure for life time... He really looked into the eyes of death...

Niki's passing is very sad, he was a real icon in motor racing and elsewhere.

I like the idea of the memorial race Smiley
