I had a brain fade braking on Para L3 worrying for a fps drop at Ascari, so I was more fast slipstreaming the cars ahead and when I braked to not rear end Bastian I looked wheels and soon no more brake at all so  I aimed inside towards the rail to slow down my car and bounced outside luckily not hitting anyone, but loosing a wheel in the process.

Good fights...after exiting myself in dundrod and got exited on IMS, i wanted to finish and drove carefully.

I saw Fulvio Para L3 flying to the inside and suspected, he will not hold it. bad luck for you, i hesitated to turn in, good decisions.
Bad Luck on the engine Axel, nice drive clive.

Good fight Phil, i was very in fear you close the gap in the last lap again, its so much faster on the straight.

Bad decision wasting points in IMS because of the crash, did not have more tokens for Monza. Will be spending nothing for Bremgarten.

Returned home late from a visit to Pembrey circuit in South Wales with Andy Livingston, rather tired and developing a nice red glow  Roll Eyes

The decision to join the server was made with about 10 mins to the start. Then I realised that I needed to choose a chassis??? My trusty Connaught was going to be severley outclassed around Monza10k. I recalled trying the Lancia a while back, but seemed to recall that I had loaded too much fuel and the gearing had been wrong.
But with only 7 mins of qually left, there was no time to do much. I opted to leave the fuel...better too much than too little ??,So I upped 4th gear one notch and dropped 5th by one notch to try and sort the ratios.
One qually lap placed me last on the grid, but I had managed to slipstream Fulvio and felt that I had improved the gearing. However after a good start I found myself dicing with Phil's silver aircraft carrier and I discovered that although my gearing was great for following Fulvio's Ferrari, it was looking decidedly vulnerable trying to tail those Mercs. With a full tow around the banking I was running perilously close to the red line for extended periods  Shocked

Axel and Mr Loynes were ahead and looked like they were going to escape. Try as I might around the twisty bits to make up ground, and grabbing the tow from Phil's high speed Merc on the fast sections it was no good. Bastian joined Phil and myself in his Lancia and a 3 way battle developed. Then Axel and Clive explored the kitty litter at Parabolica and as we turned into the pit straight I was leading!!! Shocked
That did not last long as Phil simply blew past in his Slipstreamer like I had the brakes on  Undecided
For a few laps it was ...follow Phil for the fast bits and pass him in the corners with Bastian close behind. But the thing that was worrying me  (on Prib) most was a pair of Sipstreamers that were catching our little duel   Undecided Axel and Clive had recovered and closing at an alarming rate!!
Suddenly we were a group of 5 cars, 2 Lancias and 3 Mercs  Shocked and things got very tight at the corners with those heavy, clumsy Mercs blocking the road for the elegantly balanced and nimble Lancias. But on the straights it was a desperate fight to hang on to the silver coat tails....geez but they were quick!!! Then Axel's car exploded right out side the pits ( at least it saved him a longg walk home  Roll Eyes ) So 4 cars left in the leading group 2 Mercs, 2 Lancias. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
I was aware of the braking issues for the Mercs after the first laps they needed to drop anchors much earlier than the Lancias and so I found it easy to close any gap, or even sneak past, at Parabolica especially....until I followed Phil too deep in the slipstream and missed my braking point  by about 5mtrs.
A run through the gravel allowed the other 3 escape beyond slipstream range  Sad . I was hoping that they might slow themselves down a little by fighting over places but despite putting in a few laps that were faster than any others I had managed without a tow, I was losing ground.
I suspect that all the early high speed slipstreaming and a few laps pushing very hard proved too much for the engine and I experienced that moment of perfect inner peace and tranquility as  swept out of Ascari, just when the engine fell silent  Undecided.
It was great fun whilst it lasted but I could not see a way of beating those Mercs to the finish line off the banking on the final lap, they were just too fast.
Grats to Clive , Bastian and Phil and all finishers and to brave Tago who got the Gordini to the flag..... again  Wink

I think that I was a bit lucky to take that one on two counts, 1) my pirouet through the sand at Paraboica after colliding with Axel and 2) Axel's clutch giving up.  Hard luck Axel.

Congratulations to Bastian and Phil for their podiums.

I had a good start but Axel had shown what speed he had in qually so I knew that it was going to be a struggle.
I still had the lead after lap one but Axel passed me on the way to Curva Grande.  That meant that I was following him through the Lesmos and it is always difficult not to dab the brakes a tad more in that situation.

I followed him towards Parabolica with the intention of backing off early and following him.  I lifted early but then found the rear of his car coming back towards me at an alarming rate.  Instead of being able to coast and change down and then brake at lower speed I had to use my brakes to avoid rear ending him!  The brakes are marginal at the best of times when trying to slow down the SL for Parabolica and I ran out before I had slowed down enough.  I tried to keep it tight but over did it and clipped the curb.  That threw me across the road into Axel's path.  We both had a trip through the sand but since we were not carrying any extra speed we were able to drive out again without losing any wheels.  Axel emerged in 4th spot and I ended up in 7th, just behind Uli.  Sorry for being so clumsy.

After that it was a case of catching and passing anything that I could.  At that time I considered Axel to be long gone.
Phil, Bastian and Evil had grouped themselves together nicely for me to be able to nab them all at one go as we approached the South Banking, thanks to Phil for not pulling out as I got level.  However, with the slipstream effect I was still very much in a battle over the next few laps.  I decided that it was safer to approach Parabolica on the inside line, so that nobody could try to out brake me up the inside.  When they do that and get it wrong then they take you with them.

I think that Evil went off at Parabolica.

After that it was a case of trying to slowly edge away from Phil and Bastian.

I did a good deal of the race all on my own but I can't say that keeping the big silver beast on the grey bit was boring!  Over the last two laps I nearly gave victory to Bastian as I scraped the Armco at Curva Grande and then almost had a spin at Parabolica.  It's an age thing!   Grin

See you all at Bremgarten.

PS  Congrats to Tago on bringing the Gordini home and to Phil for fastest lap.

As Phil requested, here is some race footage.

After Axel's clutch gave in, it was laps six to eight that sorted the result.....

I had wanted to cover Evil's exit a tad better but I lost track of which buttons to click.
