Season 34 Historic Trophy – Round 8 – MONTLHERY

The 8th race in the 1966 Grand Prix series takes us to Montlhéry near Paris, France.
Autodrome de Montlhéry (established 4 October 1924) is a motor racing circuit, officially called L’autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry, located south-west of the small town of Montlhéry about thirty kilometres (19 miles) south of Paris. It was initially called Autodrome Parisien, and had especially high banking. A road circuit was added in 1925.
The first race there, the 1925 French Grand Prix, was held on 26 July 1925 and organised by The Automobile Club de France Grand Prix. It was a race in which Robert Benoist in a Delage won; Antonio Ascari died in an Alfa Romeo P2. The Grand Prix revisited the track in 1927 and each year between 1931 and 1937.

Race length = 18 Laps (<50 minutes)
Variant = 1966

Driver lists and divisional rules can be found on the championship standings page

Damage Model = Pro
Qualifying time = 30-45 minutes

There is no Red Zone. Moderating will be on reported incidents only. Remember that lap 1 incidents carry an additional penalty place.

The chassis token system is explained on the Historics Trophy standings page.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

A driver must have sufficient tokens for the chassis he drives in the race.  Any driver who does not have sufficient tokens will be disqualified from the result and his tokens will be set to zero.

The chassis a driver uses in qualifying are disregarded when determining his token spend.
Note:  This is to cater for the instances when a driver either does not start or inadvertently joins with the wrong chassis and subsequently rejoins the server in another.

Any tokens not spent at the end of the season are ignored and are not used to determine championship positions in the event of a tie.

PRO rules means Shift-Rs are not allowed at any time and the damage model is realistic.

Drivers must complete 50% race distance to score.

Available Tokens:
Note: These are the tokens available to each driver before the 10 tokens are added for making the race start.

I've loaded the chassis the drivers used into the token calculator spreadsheet.  For the next race the available tokens will be as declared in the table below (the table will also appear in the next race announcement).  The calculated values are automated but selecting the cars is a manual process so please check your tokens to make sure I haven't made a silly error.  There was no token overspend for this round so no one is disqualified.

Commiserations to those who did not reach the finish,
Grats to Axel for the win and David for getting 3rd place

I took 2nd spot which was not expected.
When qualifying finished and it was time to join the grid my mouse just would not activate the GREEN button  scared scared and I thought that my race had ended right there  Undecided
I had just about given up pounding the left mouse paddle when suddenly it worked and I was sat in pit lane. But I was about 1:30secs behind the last car.
I was so far behind that as I was getting up to speed on the first straight I could hear the pack blasting back up the other side  Sad. Oh well let's push on and have some fun it is a small grid and there might be a few points available.
Very slowly I was catching the tail enders, but my little 2 litre car was geared for slipstreaming and there was not a car in sight for many, many laps. Then Bastian dropped out and I gained a position. Then more cars vanished and I waas up to 4th (?) and I still had not overtaken a car on the track??!!
When Tristan left I was suddenly in a podium spot, but Axel was leading me by almost 3/4 lap and David in 2nd place was a long way ahead.
I might have been happy with 3rd after a disastrous start, but PRIB showed that I was gaining approx 100mtrs a lap on David.
7 laps to go and David was 750mtrs ahead.......hmmmmmmm??? If I could get close and pick up the slipstream maybe?Huh

But a few laps later David had a spin and I rounded the hairpin to see him parked sideways. Woohoo!!! 2nd place  Grin But I had noticed from Prib that David's car was much faster on those long straights. I guess that David had some damage because he did not close the gap again and I was able to ease away, although I almost threw things away on the last lap when I tried to set a PB and slid into somer haybales at the chicane  Roll Eyes.
Hard luck David, if you had not spun around it might have been very close at the finish  Wink

Only 3 cars at the finish !

I am very impressed when I see Axel's best lap only 0,457 sec quicker than my best lap  ...but at the finish the gap between our cars is 78 sec !
And I only made one mistake when Evil was chasing me and was very close.

The reason is I was very very (too much) cautious until the end of the race.
I started very slowly and saw Bastian accident, then Francesco-Andreas fatal collision, and unfortunately Phil made a mistake and finish the race on the straw bales.
Ziu and Tristan were the first leaders of the race but can't finish ...so I could finish 3rd and last. I can't be proud of my race when I knew Clive started from the pits around 1mn30sec after the start.

Sorry to say that but Bastian I cannot understand your behaviour during a race : quite always (at least on this Historic series) you just connect 3 minutes before the end of qually. So you started the race from last line ...and you always made very strong and quick starts. But as it seems you didn't have enough training on such difficult tracks you quickly had an accident and then another on the first lap.
Yesterday, knowing your speed, I am sure you would have finished 2nd if you were a little bit more serious.

Clive I checked the track.ini but there was all ok for the grid, 5th qualifier has a good slot.

As Clive my 2l BRM had only a chance staying in slipstream with the 3l cars. But a little mistake made me loose it...

With a big gap to the following cars after some laps, I knew I had to keep calm and try to finish to have a good result.

First Ziu was gone, then I saw Tris on the rollbar at the bombhole, but I was too late to try to kick him on his wheels, he just vanished 50m before I got there.

Rest was to roll home and keep concentration, what nearly ended fatal in the last lap at the bombhole with a pirouette..

David,
I think Bastian races in another League on Tuesday evening before he joins our races, so maybe the time is a little tight? Perhaps he does his practice offline but the change of cars from the other league to GPL makes it difficult and leads to mistakes?

Exactly. time is the factor. and beeing tired by the hour of time and having already spend a race.
so as long nobody's race is harmed - whats the problem?

I saw a start crash in front me - no contact with me.
I was inside line afterwards with fran, I think fran just turned in without leaving space. i spun and you overtook me. I could reko that...
Nobody talks about that ? it feels a little bit discriminating

Bastian,
We all just want to race...

If I summarize your season 34 within mod 66, it is :

Kyalami : you retired after 2 laps
Road America : contact with another car at the start and retirement after 3 laps
Mexico : great race and you finished 2nd
VIR : retired after 9 laps
Watkins Glen : retired after 19 laps
Hockenheim : retired on the 1st lap. 4 other drivers impacted (Ostkurve)
Stardust : DNS
Montlhery : only 1 lap

So if you "just want to race" more than 3 laps, do you think something should change ...or not ?
