After having missed so many races of this great series, I am really looking forward to this one.
Allright if my good friend Peter Greendike joins us at Zandy ? No worries he's not an alien, far from it , but he might stir things up a bit at the back of the grid.

Sorry about the problem in R2 at the top of the hill on the last curve.  I was dodging a spinner and spun myself.  Hope I didn't ruin anyones race.  Had to leave because of suspension problems.  Again big SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No problem Bob. I was able to finish despite a damaged left front suspension.  Smiley

Race 1: Quickly changed my car choice from the 970 Mini to the 850 Mini after I realised that there were many faster guys in 1000 class.  Roll Eyes
Smooth drive without faults and benefitting from other's debates.

Race 2: In free practice just before quali I was able to realise a 1:33.921 which would have reached for 2nd on the grid just 5/100 behind nocatu  Cheesy
But I had to stop my quali session due to suddenly upcoming severe headache which had to be treated in order to overcome the race  Sad
So I started from a more familiar place, lost some places as usual but again benefitted from other's mistakes and debates and was cruising smoothly in fourth
place when I could not avoid Bob in a cloud of sand and dust. Against expectations I was able to continue the race with a damaged left front suspension after losing
some places. Despite the damage I could pass salesman in the 1275 Mini and after Bob quitted I eventually was again in fourth place.
Was looking forward to an uneventful cruise to the finish when Clive had an off in front of me and lost some time. I tried my best to involve him in a battle but my damaged
suspension did not allow tom pass him. On the contrary - on pushing harder the limitations due to the damage were obvious  Tongue and I had to be content with another
           fourth place.

Great event  Cheesy . Really like this version of Zandvoort (which we used last week already in SROUK Wednesday series) and I love the Bellet (at least I'm finally able to master it on certain
tracks)  Cool . Thanks for organizing. CU next Monday.

Thanks Nappi1 for organising the Series.

Race 1. Qualifying went well and finished up in 5th slot behind Bob. Had a good start and maintained 5th  but on lap 3 lost concentration had a big off and dropped to 8th behind Kurt in the 850 Mini. By lap 6 I had passed all the 850 cc cars and had caught up Peter Greendike. Each time I tried to get into a passing position I over cooked it and put 2 wheels onto the sand and lost time, so I tried to relax and hold station. After Geoff lapped me I decided to try and get by Peter, on the last lap I managed to close up in the long right hand curve and managed to get pass just before the finishing line. Nice steady drive Peter, I had to work hard to get by! Congrats  to Geoff and others on the podium.

Race 2. I started practice but I decided I was too exhausted to race, so I quit.

I was in great speed in first qualify and even though Bob gave me drift when he overtook me (and probably helped few tenths out of my time) I think I was in good position. I knew that Abarths would pass me in start but I was right behind them soon after. Unfortunately I was a lot faster in the winding sections, but tiny bit slower in front straight so finding overtake place was hard. I eventually found one, but after going inside, I was very close to roll over due massive amount of grip I had in outside wheels. I had to correct to outside to drop the wheels back to the pavement and Mini bounced from the hit causing it get loose. And once you get low powered FWD car loose with tires like this, there's not much you can do. So I spinned and ended up as dead last.

However I did not give up. I was about 7 seconds behind the next guy when I started the hunt and I catched up the guys in front in 3-4 laps. And once again I screwed up the overtake. I ended up too close in mid corner and despite trying to brake, I hitted Abarth in front of me causing him to spin. So, time to park with "sorry" and wait.  Can't really remember rest of the race, I just tried to finnish without more mistakes.

For next race I had quite little experience this track with Bellett, but I was surprised to be 4th in starting grid. The race itself was worse than first one. I hit Escort in very first lap causing us both end up in the bankings. I got stuck like for 30-40 seconds and then I had to wait until Peter (?) found his way to back to track. When that happened, we were both lapped already. After this race was pretty uneventful, if not 3-5 different kind of own mistakes were not counted. Those did not have effect to my result though as I was so far behind the next guy...

I do like the track and with Mini it was all about preservation of motion energy as long as possible. Loved the way how even small stuff like cutting the small kink before pitlane as much as possible had an effect to the lap time. Race could have been better, but being 3rd in class is great result for me. (heck, it's less than 3 months from my first victory in 15 years. These last 3-4 race results just have been so out of my world that it probably is raising expectations a bit too much.)

Thanks to all for joining and sorry to everyone to whom I was the real pain.

These cars seem to produce great racing and the mixture of classes on one grid adds a little extra. I do wonder if it would be possible in the future to make the classes just a little closer in performance, so that there is a chance of "giant killing" with a smaller engine car? as things are the grid quickly spreads out into 2 distinct races?
This is not a complaint, because the fun is tremendous anyway.  Grin

Race 1
I thought that I would try the little Fiat in the first race, because Minis and me just do not agree on how corners should be taken Roll Eyes!
I got a tremendous start and was backing off through Tarzan to avoid one of the "faster" cars, very concerned about Dan and his rapid start, coz he was looking into my engine compartment behind!!
Like Nappe said these little buzz boxes are all about maintaining momentum and it took me a while to work out where I could just keep my right foot planted, and where I really did have to use a lift or a touch on the brakes. For me the final corner was where I gained or lost most time. If I got it just right, I could sweep through without any downshift or braking to carry max speed onto the straight all the way to Tarzan....get it slightly wrong and I would either run onto the grass and lose momentum, or have to d/shift and also lose momentum  Undecided.

Race 2
I had a setup that suited me for the 1300GT Escort so went with that and was shocked to see how quick some were in the Bellet  Shocked...it does not go that quickly for me!!??  Kurt posted an insane time in qually and I thought that we had found a new alien living amongst us  Wink.
The Escort worked fine, but my shifter is getting old and it did not. 2 or 3 times whilst braking for Tarzan it downshifted 2 gears and fired me off the track. Just when I thought that I was cruising to a 3rd spot behind the 2 fast guys battling for the lead it did it again and I ended up stuck in the sand on the outside. My 25 sec lead over Kurt in his Bellet almost vanished as I struggled to get any traction to drag my car onto the tarmac!!
When I did eventually start moving there was a very hungry looking Kurt in my mirrors!!
I see that he had mechanical issues, which explains why I was able to slowly ease away and secure 3rd place....but for a lap or two I did feel very worried lol.

Grats to podiums and class winners...…looking forward to the next round which is a new venue for me and another hill climb event  Undecided

After this championship is done, I would love to do even smaller class, so that Fronte Coupe could be moved to run against cars in it's own real class. Abarth 695SS might be possible and Steyr Puch 650 TR is basically same car with different mechanics. Wink

I have already pretty close to finished also Mini Marcos 850, which is surprisingly fast to have just 70 hp. This variation was planned to Mini Marcos version 2, but the development went down to halt when ga2jo faded away from modding. I probably will however finish the mod by myself as it would be shame to some of the stuff go wasted.

I highly doubt this championship would be my last one. Smiley
