While practicing offline I had some issues with the track. These fortuantely did not show up during the race.

And that was a race. It was the most intense and closest race in my career.
I was half a second quicker than Geoffers in the qualifying, but I did not care too much about it, as Geoffers is such a good starter. I guessed he would catch me right at the start.
But to my surprise he did not, maybe I had a really good day. I was in front for the first laps and Geoffers was right behind me. He was really right behind me as the gap between us was around 1 second and mostly lower for the whole race!
With the slipstream on the long straight he caught me after 6 laps. I could not fight back but I kept up his pace. And the pace was really high. I tried to keep the gap under a second. After about 16 laps I realized, that his tyres were worse than mine. So I tried to save my tyres for a final sprint. In the 25th lap in the final corner I caught him and kept my lead for the last lap. And  the gap between us was only 0.3 s at the end.
It was a hard but fair race, we did not touch each other.
It was great fun, thank you Geoff for that experience.
And grats to Geoff and Clive, and all others that were on the podiums. Thanks Nappe for organizing this stuff.
CU soon.

Result

Cool

Possibly could have been a interesting one for me  Sad.
I was about 2:10.9 in the Escort after only a few laps and already in bad health and with a bit more practice
and in good health I would have been in the regions of Nappe and Suti for a close race.

I had downloaded the track and tried a few laps in the BMW, just to be sure I had everything working, prior to last nights qualifying session. I had decided that as my short try in the BMW had produced only a hairy 2:02 lap, I was going to run a smaller class car.

I remembered that I had tried the Alpha at some earlier race and it felt good, also that in the Spa race Kurt had simply driven away from my Escort in the same Alpha....so the Alpha would have to be the car to try. TBH I was very surprised that I had such a speed advantage over the Escorts?? and even more amazed to pip Bob's Capri for 3rd on the grid!!!
Surely Bob's extra Capri power would allow him to pass me once the race got going, but maybe it would be fun if I could stay close to him?  Not sure what happened at the start, but I found myself chasing 2 BMW's with zero chance of keeping them in sight...and no-one in my mirrors???

Slowly ( actually quite quickly  Undecided ) Markus and Geoff vanished into the sunset and my only hope was that they might tangle and give me a sniff of a higher place...apparently they behaved like perfect gentlemen  Sad.
I was still expecting Bob to loom large in the rear view so tried to keep pushing the Alpha as hard as I could, until the front left tyre began to show signs of stress with 5 laps to go. My biggest problem was that I had no idea how much lead I had because HUD was showing Bob's Capri as DNS, so although I knew he was placed behind me, I did not know how far behind he was.
I survived to the flag and held 3rd place but it was a stressful last few laps.
Grats to Markus and Geoffers…(they were in a different race and class ) also to all finishers.

Indeed it was an excellent race Markus. As you say there was rarely more than 1s between us the whole race. Not much else to add, you have said it all, thanks to you for some great racing.

Congrats to Markus & to Clive in 3rd & 1st 2-litre.  clap clap
