Moderator's Report

Summary
A dominant win for Pele in his very quick Eagle followed by Tristan is a Ferrari. Tim secured third spot on the podium in a Honda. The top three finished in the order in which they qualified.

Server replay time: 0h00m55s

Lap 1 – Turn 1 - Billy Nobrakes, Dave Curtis, Francesco Molteni and Pepe Higdon
Billy gets a very good start from the left-hand side of the grid, overtaking Phil Thornton and closing rapidly on David Rainier. David is cautious into turn 1 which allows Phil to take both the inside line and the position. This leaves Billy with nowhere to go and he brakes heavily to avoid hitting David. Dave Curtis is following Billy and is caught out by Billy’s heavy braking and needed to brake heavily himself, in fact he almost lost control, but Dave does manage to slow down enough to avoid major contact with Billy’s Brabham. The ripple effect of heavy braking is cumulative and consequently Francesco and Pepe could not brake in time and they ended up rear-ending Dave Curtis. Dave, Francesco and Pepe can all continue but Francesco and Pepe need Shift-Rs. Francesco and Pepe both complete a Stop-and-Go at the end of lap 1.

Whilst it is the responsibility of a following driver to avoid contact, in situations like this where the effect of early braking is cumulative, it would be harsh to penalise the drivers at the back of the field. Consequently, this must be considered a racing incident. However, drivers are reminded to leave a safe distance ahead (unless planning an overtake) to ensure avoiding action can be taken should an incident arise.

Season 35 – 1967 F1 – Round 4 – Rouen

The fourth race in the 1967 F1 series finds us at Rouen in France.   From its opening in 1950, Rouen-Les-Essarts was recognized as one of Europe's finest circuits, with modern pits, a wide track, and spectator grandstands. The circuit (which ran on public roads) had a few medium straights, a cobbled hairpin turn (Nouveau Monde) at the southernmost tip, and a few blind corners through a wooded hillside. The appeal was greatly enhanced by the climb from Nouveau Monde at 56 metres to Gresil at 149 metres.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please read the championship specific rules on the championship standings page.

Pleased with my race although 3 unforced errors cost me a couple of places. Getting used to my new wheel so hopefully I can only improve from here.

The server seemed to be good, no complaints I hope.

Grats with your new steering wheel, but yes it does take some time to get used to a new one. I remember when Microsoft stopped their FF wheel & went to G25 & now G27.
Here, server seemed like my own race, perfect Grin

Grats Tris & Tim thumbup2...whatever I must admit, I was in a *Little* faster car today laugh

Qual:
A long summer vacation from GPL, I was surprised at how few mistakes I made in qual Cool

Race:
Start: I don't know what's wrong with my Rouen track, but on pole, it seems like the right wheel pair are standing on a curb & my start was awful. Haven't seen replay but I think Tris & Tim were aware something was wrong so it didn't end in crash before T1 thumbup1
The rest of the race, I was really hard on my Eagle, amazingly it kept the whole race & best race time think I was put on lap 5. I tried to say to myself, RELAX...but nothing helped sweatdrop

Thank you to all of you who gave plenty of room when I came up to you yes

Edit Discover now, my fastest lap was not on lap 5 (1m54.970s)…but on lap 24: 1m54.863s Cheesy

The replay doesn't seem to be available at either site, so I don't know what happened at the start. I qualified in the very back of the pack with what I thought was a pretty good time (sub-1:02) for me in the BT24. Just two days ago I'd reached a new PB of 2:00.04, so nothing I did today was going to top that experience. At the green flag I moved forward cautiously only to see cars soon exploding and flying apart as if they'd run into a minefield. I doubt the race at that point was ten seconds underway. I slammed on the brakes with real enthusiasm, but nailed the car in front and turned myself tortoise in the process. One SHFT-R to use in the race and it was gone in the first 100 yards.

The remainder of the 24.989 laps for me was a contest not with the cars in front of me but with Dave Curtis. I overtook him on an early mistake of his, let him by when I mistook him for a car trying to lap me, snuck by him again on another miscue, and held on for dear life until the finish. When the dust had settled, I don't think I beat him by half a second. You guys at the front think that racing for the checkered flag is tough and stressful. How would you like to be racing not to be the guy who will be DLBF (dead last but finished)? Yeah, I tell you this because I know the feeling all too well: Driving to escape embarrassment is a hell of lot harder than driving to achieve glory.  Smiley

I was very lucky to avoid the pile up at the start. I had to brake hard when the car in front of me slowed which had a concertina effect of on following cars. By the run down to Nouveau Monde there was nobody in my mirrors. Bad luck for the guys behind. The qualifying time were very close & it would have been a battle.
I was able to keep pace with the midfield cars in front & by avoiding any errors myself I picked up places from David R, Phil & Ricardo.
I would have expected to avoid being lapped by Pelle's pace in the Eagle was awesomely fast.
Server connection was solid all through the race.

In my case a quiet and solid drive. Tried a long time to get closer to Tristan, but couldn´t manage it. Pelle was outta space.
Thanx to all who were really careful during overlaping -very fair and with great overview!

Gratulations to Pelle, Tristan and all finishers. Nice track, always possibilities to gain or loose some time.
Thank you to all involved to make this happen!

The race was a lot of fun, especially the battles with Fulvio.

That was fun!

Congrats Pelle, Tristan, and Tim!

Tim's speed is impressive. Jonny looks good too. Pelle and Tristan's performance was good as I'd expect. Two years ago I'd have said I was faster than Jonny but I wouldn't say that now. He qualified faster than I've ever gone with the BRM.

That was a good start for the first several cars. Somehow I had a little gap over Axel which allowed me to leave a little space between me and Fulvio after T1.

That was some nice driving Fulvio. You never made a big enough mistake for me to pass, although I did manage to lead you through one turn. The only other chance I got meant that I would have had to outbrake you at the end of the long straight. I wasn't sure I could do it, so I didn't try. Jonny gave me one opportunity too but I didn't think I could complete that pass either.

Positions 4-8 were contested through most of the race. I tailed Fulvio most of the race. Jonny fell back to us at one point. Running between Fulvio and Axel was hard work. I overheated my tires while between them, falling behind Axel at one point. Most of the race I was worried that if I wasn't careful Eduardo might pass me too. Every tenth of a second was important to stay in front of Eduardo's Lotus and keep up with Fulvio.

That was the first week I've been able to drive consistently in months. My arm still aches and it's weak, but it's useable now. Smiley I didn't really want to get into a race at Hockenheim. I just wanted to finish. I felt good enough this time that I wanted more than just a finish. It was fun trying to keep up with Fulvio.

I did as well as I could have hoped. I relaxed late in qualifying because my arm started aching but it had no effect on my starting position. I was only off my fastest lap by 0.5 seconds. My apologies Pepe for bumping you in qualifying. I misjudged what both of us were doing. I hope it didn't hurt your qualifying.

Thanks guys. Take care of yourselves.
