Season 35 Sport Cars Extra Cup – Round 4 – Spa67

The 4th round of the Season 35 SCx races finds us at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.
Designed in 1920 the original triangle-shaped course used public roads between the Belgian towns of Francorchamps, Malmedy, and Stavelot. The track was intended to have hosted its inaugural race in August 1921, however the first car race was held at the circuit in 1922. Spa was the fastest road circuit in Europe at the time, and it had a nasty reputation for being dangerous and very fast- it was a circuit known to be one for the brave, and most drivers were frightened of it. The old Spa circuit was unique in that speeds were consistently high with hardly any let-up at all for 3–4 minutes. This made it an extraordinarily difficult mental challenge (& ridiculously easy to crash).

The Sports Cars Extra mod is new for UKGPL this season.
Please check the Season 35 pages for details regarding rules and the Sports Cars Extra pages in particular.
Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score points.

Each driver must select two cars at the start of his season.
The choices must be declared in the race post for the first round you compete in.
- Professional drivers, the combined ranking points for the cars should amount to at least 6 points.
- Amateur drivers, the combined ranking points for the cars should amount to at least 5 points.
The car with the higher rank points must be used at least as many times as the car with the lower rank points.

Unlucky Fran. You would have beaten me if you'd carried on. I had a screen freeze at La Source on the last lap!

I was struggling with a very bad framerate all race. It never got above 30fps. I crashed a couple of times when it dropped well below that. I've no idea what went wrong, I had a solid 60fps last week. There must have been an update or it could be something I installed recently.  Anyway, hope to fix it before Tuesday!!

Grats to the podium.

Congrats Uli and Axel! It's a shame Tristan was discoed.

My apologies for the bad start. I hit the wrong button on my wheel. I apologise for bumping you Axel. I waited for you and tried to tow you back to Uli. We were getting close. If that had worked and you could pass Uli, I would have tried for a few laps to tow you to Tristan. I thought about trying to tow you to Uli again after you crashed but I didn't think there was enough time.

It looks like I made a bad choice of cars. One is too fast and the other is too slow. I wanted to drive something I had not driven yet. I still haven't driven the new Porsche, Mk. 4, Mk 2B, or Mirage. This was the first week I drove the 2F and Lola. I copied my old Chap 2F setup and it didn't need much work for this race. I was surprised it worked so well. The Ferrari has required a lower rear spring rate using my old setups.

If anybody is interested, I had to raise my wing before I braked, turned-in, or downshifted. When I had to raise the wing for a turn, I could often lower it again soon after passing my apex. I was surprised with my qualifying time. I didn't expect the car to be almost as fast as the Lotus 49 and Eagle. If might be that fast if I kept practicing. I didn't get into a good rhythm during the race so I never got to see if I might improve on my qualifying time.

Thanks guys. I appreciate you letting me race you and, once again, I apologize for the mess I made at the start.

Now ain't that a crying shame
Now wouldn't it be a real drag if we were all the same

If you want finish first you have to finish first.

With only 44fps at the start and being blocked by Greg (nP) I was as careful as I could in this car with his unclear field of view. I finished that‘s what I was hopping for Smiley
