Far off the pace with 1:31 up to now. But maybe I'll be the only one who survives and then grab the victory

IMPORTANT
For pitting instructions at this track please refer to the two jpegs in the "Extras" folder. I think they are self explanatory. If a driver is pitting, following cars should stay in the far left hand lane to avoid colliding with a driver pitting.
Just heads up to check your install guys. Yesterday I did a few laps on the server to check all was OK for toni9ght's race. I had created a fresh install for these cars a couple of weeks ago, but I had forgotten to turn off the "Autopit" options. So after a few abortive laps where I checked the strength of the Armco and the height of various kerbs I rounded the final hairpin for the first time to nail the gas and start my first flying lap.... Well that was what I intended to do, but GTL decided that I had strayed onto the "pit entry" area and took control of my car parking it neatly in my pit box!! This track is possibly unusual because the pits are virtually on the track and so it is easy to stray onto the wrong area if you take a tight line out of that final hairpin. I do wonder if the "speeding in pit lane" penalty might be invoked if cars put wheels into the pit box area during the race??? This track is quite limited on passing places and the S/F straight is probably somewhere that an attempt to get alongside could be made with a good exit from that final corner? , and with 2 cars side by side a wheel might stray onto the pit apron? So double check that "Autopit" is off, as per the instructions at the top of this thread and maybe Tony can advise on the pit lane speeding issue?

I certainly can Clive and a lot more besides. I set out to investigate pitting on this track and I'm glad I did! First off, cuts are off for this race so I believe that will avoid any pit lane cutting/speeding issues (I think ) To successfully pit you have to do this (and this is in contradiction to the two graphic images, which I think may only apply to GTR2 races). 1) After the hairpin, turn into the far right lane and go no faster than approx 8MPH/12KPH (way slower than pit limiter speed). 2) As you approach the first Shell board on your right you will see your pit man appear ahead of you. If your going to fast he will disappear and you will have to do another lap. 3) Stay in the far right lane and approach pit man at very slow speed and your pit board should appear. 4) When your pit stop has finished continue along the pit lane at Limiter speed and rejoin the main track when the yellow line on your left finishes. Then turn limiter off. I would suggest that the above procedure is practiced as it is probably clearer to do than to read about.

I can see no start lights or flagman at this track. Probably a good idea to have auto countdown turned on.

Tony, does that imply that if you enter the right lane fast enough and the pit man disappears, the game doesn't think you want to pit, your lap is recorded and you get no pit lane speeding penalty ?

Yes, that is my understanding after testing. If you attempt a pit stop and it fails (pit man comes and goes) you still get a time when you cross the S/F line, and no pit lane speeding penalty. EDIT: I would avoid using the far right hand lane for racing as you could hit a pitted car!

That's what I've been trying during practice, but sometimes you may end up straying into the right lane, and with more cars on the track, you might get forced into it.

Just a little clarification please Tony. I admit that I have not, as yet, tried any of this out on the server, or offline, so maybe it would become clear if I got my a** in gear and did some proper practice . item 1) states that we should enter pits extremely slowly, and suggests that the normal pit lane speed limiter is probably set too fast?? but item 4) appears to indicate that we should have the limiter "on" until we reach the end of the pitlane, where we turn it off?? Just a little confused ( which is my normal mental state ) but are we to understand that the in game speed limiter, which in my case is invoked with the "z" key, is of no use as the car will be travelling too quickly? or is it functioning correctly because we should be using it as we approach the pit exit, where we turn it off?? I think I am reading that drivers need to monitor their own speed, which is dictated by whether the pit man is visible or not?....but I could be wrong

Limiter on or off, makes no difference. Pit exit should be at limiter speed e.g. not very, very, slow. This is purely to prevent cars screaming out of the pit lane into race traffic and to give race traffic a chance to see and avoid cars leaving the pit lane.

Hi Tony poss stupid question the race info says Monaco as if this is supplied with GTL game my GTL from Steam does not include Monaco, but i have in an old GTL folder a track called 1967 Monaco with a loading screen in black and white and GTR2 written on it, have tried going on server and it works, my question is this track correct and okay to use or will it cause errors when other drivers join

FWIW Rog. What you describe as the track file, is what I have... and I have tried an online session with it and suffered no probs...…….thus far Just about to have another go to test out the pitstop issues, because in an earlier run I discovered that the front left tyre seems to wear VERY quickly. That might be a setup issue, or more likely my driving, but it does indicate that new rubber might be required during this race

I thought that I had sorted the "Autopit" issue, but for some reason GTL insists on reverting to AI control on each new boot??!!
I am certain that I have Admin authority to change the .plr file and it appears to accept the changes and also allows me to save the edited file ( it even asks if I want to save the changes!!). But when I reboot my install for the single seaters and run a few laps before trying a pit stop, by positioning my car against the Armco out of the final turn....the car lurches suddenly one car width to the left ( i.e. out into the racing zone ) for about 20mtrs before pulling back into the "pitlane". Clearly this is less than ideal for tonight's race as it will probably cause a major crashfest!!
Thus far, everything that I have looked at appears to confirm that I have Admin rights, but I cannot get the edit to stick???

You should have Autopit set to 0 & Force Autopit Off set to 1 Clive, should work.

yup Geoff, just like it says on top post. I have run through the edit about half a dozen times, and on each occasion it appears to accept the changes and "saves" the .plr file. But when I get on the server …..still have AI taking control as I enter pit lane !!!
