Season 35 – 1967 F1 – Round 7 – Brno

The seventh race in the 1967 F1 series finds us at Brno in the Czech Republic. Brno was originally founded as a race circuit in 1930, the original course running counter-clockwise for some 29.1Km (18 miles) through 9 towns/villages. The inaugaral race was won by Lous Chiron in a Bugatti type 51 in 1931. The circuit maintained this layout until 1937 when War brought racing to a close. In 1949 Brno re-opened - now running clockwise and at a shorter length of 17.2Km (10.7 Miles) passing through only 6 towns/villages this time. In 1964 the circuit was shortened again to 13.9Km (8.6 Miles) by cutting Zebetin from the route. In 1967 Mike Spence entered a BRM P83 in a race here - No other (then) current F1 teams were known to have raced here. In 1975 the circuit was again shortened down to a mere 10.9Km (6.77 Miles) in order to avoid running through Pisarky, Novy Liskovec, and Bohunice, it also removed a large section of the run through Kohoutovice. This layout remained until 1987 when the road course was finally closed in order to move the racing onto the newly purpose built race circuit situated just off the original course, between Ostrvacice and Zebetin were the races continue to this day. Today we are using the Brno '65 layout.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Have other obligations tonight & won't be able to make this race. Saved me having to learn a rather challenging track.

A few of us have been practicing race starts and the starting grid on UKGPL10 is placing us in identical starting spots. This could ruin the start of the actual race.

Shame to wreck it so soon!

Apologies - looking at this now.
Thanks for reporting.

Immediately after the start something wrong in the wheel.I forgot to upload the setup for the race and with the wrong steering ratio was impossible to drive.

Thanks Axel, but saw that afterwards & I'd already adjusted to something else.

I typically have a couple of practice starts with empty & full grid (especially for home-brew grid);  however that must slipped through.

Apologies again chaps, but thanks again Greg for mentioning it.  Race-saver!

Cheers,
Dave.

Had a great run here at Brno!

My start wasn´t famous, Pelle managed to pass me easily and as I didn´t want to make an early mistake I started conservative..but as Pelle run wide while overtaking Greg I could pass him on the inside and was lucky!
Afterwards Greg drove a fantastic constant race without making mistakes and made it impossible for me to attack or even come closer..well done Greg!!

Had a shocking-moment in L6 when I hit a roadsign with my right side. First I thought thats it, but luckily the Honda survived without any feelable damage.

Very saddisfied with P2!

My congratulations to all finishers
-especially Greg & Pelle!

Congrats Tim and Pelle! That was very impressive Tim. I have doubts I could have beat you if I had driven a Ferrari.

This was a good indicator of how terrible the past few years have been for me. Five years ago Tim wouldn't have stood a chance and I might have beat him with a Brabham. I'm lucky Tim, Pelle, Jonny, and Tristan didn't have better cars.

The 4-5 second advantage that the Lotus gave me, kept me from ever having to press my luck. It was fast enough to open a gap before any places where my poor braking might surprise Tim. He lost some time on one lap giving me a five second lead. I knew then it would take him at least two laps to catch me unless I did something very stupid.

I'm very impressed by Tim's speed in the Honda in two sections of the track. I wouldn't have guessed he could make up so much time in the Honda. You were very fast late in sector 2 and the beginning of sector 3. You also made me look bad late in sector 3. My saving grace was the Lotus is so fast through the last village.

This was the one race this season I thought I might be able to win. Unfortunately, I've gotten slower. I'm pleased that an excellent car and consistency did what I hoped to do. I'm no longer able to do what I could a few years ago.

Thanks for the fun guys. And thanks for fixing the grid Dave.

@Greg: I drove like hell, but also wanna to finish and not dropout. Indeed I lost some time as I described before. Sure this took me the possibility to put some more pressure on you Wink -but you were so consistant, so no chance for me Smiley - Big gratulations for that -it´s the fundament for winning.. a nice racing you gave me!!

ps: some championship-table-values are still missing (works etc). Thank you guys for holding this alive!!!
