Moderator's Report

At the end of the formation lap there was some early acceleration from several drivers resulting in some contact on the s/f straight.
Rather than get into it in detail, I'll just remind everyone of the new start procedure using the pit limiter, which will hopefully prevent these type of incidents in the future.

Server replay time: 260s

As the pack approach Coppice for the first time Picnic is following Jan Duijs and Maurice Claessen. Jan brakes early and Maurice almost rear ends him but manages to slow, but caught out by the sudden braking Picnic cant stop in time and rear ends Maurice sending him off.
In Picnic's defense, Jan did brake unusually early even for the first lap.
Picnic took a drive through immediately after the incident so the penalty is reduced.

  • picnic (Picnic)penalty — rear ending Maurice Claessen — 0 places lost

Server replay time: 283s

Mark Jonzo is following Shark down to Melbourne and he leaves his braking quite late and has to move to the inside to avoid rear ending Shark.
He just about slows the car but there is light side by side contact with Shark as they round the apex.

Server replay time: 369s

Paul968 is rejoining at the Fogarty Esses after an off and as FlyBri, who is defending his place fro TrueTom, reaches the braking point his view is obscured by the tyre smoke. A Ferrari is clearly visible sliding out onto the grass through the tyre smoke, but the second Ferrari of Paul968 is hidden in the smoke until the last moment and Flybri is already under heavy braking when he sees it.

Paul rejoins on the extreme right of the track just before the second half of the chicane, and is attempting to keep on the far right by not accelerating hard through the corner. FlyBri's line and apparent absence of braking suggests that he either couldn't see Paul for some reason or simply hadn't registered that he was rejoining at low speed.

Ironically, had Paul not made an effort to stay tight to the right hand curb whilst getting back up to speed, FlyBri mightn't have hit him.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 386s

Maurice Claessen has been following [Zip]PY for several laps and as they reach the braking zone for the Fogarty Esses Maurice rear ends PY sending him off. PY's braking point was no different than the previous laps but he did move to the right as they neared the braking zone. Maurice swerved left but could not avoid the impact.
PY should really have chosen either the inside or outside line and stuck with it. However Maurice could have been more cautious considering that the same thing almost happened at the same bend on the previous lap.
Penalty reduced to 1 place.

  • mclaessen (Maurice Claessen)penalty — rear-ending [ZIP]PY — 1 place lost
For advice only - unreported by victim, so penalty disregarded
  • [ZiP]PYadvice — choose a definite line before the braking zone

I also had the blue flags in the first 10 or so minutes at the old hairpin. No idea what that was about, was quite irritating. There was a bit of warp going on at the start, not a lot, but a little.

I almost forgot about that - I had the guy in the pits calling the blue flag on me from the start to about six laps in!
Now while I may be used to that particular call Grin, I deffo think something was going a slight bit astray there......

Any idea guys? Did it happen anyone else?

How the hell can I hold you up when we are fighting for position ? I was in front of you, and it is not my fault if you can not get  past me ! ?
just think of Alonso and Schumacher at Imola, did they moan after the race ? NO....they enjoyed it and I did so too !

I never drove ZigZag ! I defended the line !
even though it doesen`T matter , cause you blew the engine anyway !

Dude, don't blow it up. All I said is that you held me up, but I was unable to overtake you. I had to avoid a crash at some point because you braked much earlier than me. That cost me lot's of time on the guys infront. I'm not saying you held me up by unacceptable driving, not at all. It was just that I was quicker at some corners, but the lack of power in the 360 made it impossible for me to overtake you. Nor did I try a kamikaze move on you. I just stayed behind you hoping for a mistake.

So instead of twisting my words, why not PM me to ask me what I meant.

sorry Jeff, so I just lost it in translation !

I enjoyed the racing with you today !  Grin Grin
hard and clean IMO !

looking forward to the next one !

You might want to consider more carefully what you write too as I've just had to go and edit the first few of these posts because they could be so very easily misinterpreted. Angry

Why? That was my race report. I did not point any fingers. If people felt like I was talking to them, then they probably don't have a clean sheet.

"I got held up really badly by NAMED DRIVER" is almost bound to be taken as an ad hominem attack. "I just couldn't find a way past NAMED DRIVER" would've been far less open to misinterpretation.

The fact that NAMED DRIVER did take offence would rather suggest that it was taken to be an accusation and not a statement of fact, wouldn't you say.

That and the "oh carp, WW3's about to kick off" thread in the mods area! Roll Eyes

Yup, it was a bad word choice. But why does being held up have a negative sound to it. I can be held up, but why would that suggest that I disgree by that happening. Because of an incident at the beginning of the race, I was down the field. I was catching up with the guys infront. Untill I reached (...). He drove a good defensive line, so my times dropped. In other words, I was being held up to procede on my dash to the top 5. Absolutely no negative thought behind it. Just a (bad) way to describe a fact.

Don't think it was me this time!!

Don't worry Adam. Althought it was close Grin. You were in the Coppice corner and I was about to overtake you. But therer was a bump in the road there, so I passed you a bit closer than I wanted Shocked. That put a smile on my face, because after that I was like: How is it possible Grin

P.S. Is there a maximum amount of folders on you FTP Tyf. I had to delete an older lapchart to host this one. Huh

Intersting race to say the least, well from the cars performance point of view.  Picked up some aero damage on the formation lap which affected the car for the whole race, made it a right pig at times.  Relieved to finish 5th in the end, could have been a bit better with an undamaged car but there we go.

Greg. Sorry mate. I think it was me that cought your rear end just after last corner on start finish straight. Everyone appeared to be going for it then all slowed. Tried desperately to avoid you. Do appologise!

Just as a suggestion all. Might we want to back the pack up before the last corner?Huh?
Just to avoid any start probs.

Disscuss...........

Have to say from my position in 6th Emmo drove the start finish straight very consistently, we were all nicely spaced and steady pace. I've looked at the replay and it's actually quite difficult to tell what went wrong from 8th downwards. I know there was a bit of lag/warp at the start which may have contributed to cars suddenly getting closer than they first appeared.

I'm sure Mo will have fun moderating this one and will review the formation lap and final few turns to see what can be learned.

Well tonight was a bit of a disaster for me so we won't go there  Embarrassed

I too suffered from the spurious blue flag warnings but I had these at Brno so was almost ready for them. The timing to the car infront was also all over the shop, jumping by 6 plus seconds around some parts of the lap. I've seen strange timing issues like this on 3rd party tracks, Le Mans springs to mind, perhaps I've just not noticed it on the official circuits.
