Race 1

Practice: ~19:20 (60 mins)
Qualifying: 20:20 (10 mins) Drivers must not leave qualifying to change car make.
Race: 20:30 (10 laps)

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal
Pit stops required: No

Server: simracing.org.uk Wednesdays
Password: see above

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: None.

Now that the 'normal' world has turned insane, at least there's occasion to participate again in the virtual world which more and more seems to be far more 'real ' than the old one. Back on the grid with a cleaned -and yet still functional!!- G27. See y'all on track tonight.

Not a good night Roll Eyes

Race 1, crashed out while leading, hit that confounded bump on the banking which launched me into the fence.

Race 2, took the lead again but spun off when I just caught the grass at the RHer before the banking. Took ages to get the car back on track before, a couple of laps later lost it going onto the banking & got stuck at the bottom. Doh

Grats to all on the podiums.  clap clap clap

It was nice to be back racing here again and good to see so many familiar faces turn up for the race!

I managed to make a good setup that focused on top speed, but for the race it seemed like I was using longer gears than some of the others, plus I haven't really practiced my start, so after dropping back a few places, it took about half the race to catch up to the leaders. It was a shame that they went off and suddenly I was very far ahead, so I eased off to let whoever was in 2nd place catch up. It was Coyote and we had a nice fight in the last few laps, but I made a mistake stepping onto the grass before the banking on the final lap, so I had to settle for 2nd.

Grats to the podiums and finishers. It was good to see my old GPL Hiki Waza teammate Hristo back on track again, but a little disheartening to see that he has not lost any pace during his break!!  Undecided

I had slowly tweaked the setup to extract some decent pace from the Porker, but I think I had 5th gear maybe 1 click too high as once I was in slipstream the revs did not climb as high as I expected them to and I lost a little on acceleration until max veloce was reached.
Avus is a unique circuit where there is only a single braking point ( if you did not know the layout it would be difficult to conceive of a layout that would offer this!)  and slipstream is the deciding factor, I find that once a car is isolated the race is over, and you can only wait for the cars behind to catch you to enjoy some more racing. I was almost getting cramp in my right calf at the end of these races.lol

Race 1 was going well and my only issue ( for both races!) was the braking for the hairpin. Stability at this point was marginal. some laps it felt great and the car slowed and turned in under complete control, on other laps things got very squirrely  scared scared scared I need to adjust the setup somewhere.

The interlude between races included a Scandinavian excursion to Anderstorp  Shocked. For a few moments I wondered if I had not read the race post correctly and that Race 2 was actually on a different track!!! I even swapped to the Lotus Elan in panic lol!!

Race 1 ended when I discovered an invisible concrete block ( left over from our Procar race last season? ) on the banking. I was barrelling through there flat in 4th like I had on all previous laps...same line...same gear....same speed and WHAM!!! I was launched into the air eventually landing on my roof.  Race over  Undecided

Race 2 was going OK, but I was trying to keep a slightly higher line on the banking to prevent more contact with that concrete block. That compromised my exit line and on at least 3 occasions I clipped the end of the fencing, which did nothing to improve my lap times or car condition!!

One of my really hated tracks, so had done the minimum practice I felt I could get away with.  Going online, I found a few, to me, unknown names, but judging from their laptimes, clearly of the alien category...  Shocked

Way off the pace myself, and it was only very late in qual for race 1, that a remark from Kurt about gaining 3 secs by using the highest possible tyre pressure, that the coin (kind'a) dropped.  With race countdown in progress, I maxed out my tyre pressures, but then got cold feet - could not chance running with such extreme setting among other drivers, without having tried it before, so with 10 secs left, I reloaded my original setup.  Better start than some, but a lot of haphazard sverving around slower starting cars.

Leaders quickly disappeared, and I trundled around in 5-6th place, one eye in the mirror and sverving from lane to lane, trying to ditch the freeloaders behind  Wink   Then around mid-race, in about 200 meters, I suddenly went from 5th to 2nd, due to a lot of mishaps ahead of me.  Quite surprised when I also caught up to the lone leader, but Hristo's explanation that he waited, clears that up.  As I see it, he's the real winner, as he could just have continued instead of waiting.  As it was, we had some slipstreaming in the final laps, and I got lucky in being the one ahead on the final lap. Grats to Hristo & Roger, and commiserations to the victims of invisible booby-traps.

Race two,  Increased my tyre pressures a litttle, but didn't have enough practice time to go for the more extreme settings. I gained a couple of places in a more controlled start, and then some more into and out of the hairpin.  Regrettably I lost the tow and thus couldn't keep up with Dan & Hristo, so concentrated very hard on preventing the chasing pack from catching me. Grats to Hristo & Dan.

I also tried increased tyre pressure, 'cos I remember that used to work in Indycar 2 at Talledega, was not sure
whether GTL modeled that effect or not, so set them a bit higher than normal, can't say I noticed
any difference, it was the hairpin and the banking where time seemed to made or lost.
