Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 192s

Incident involving Phil Kerins, JohnnyDee and Shark. Phil states hes having problems with Sharks ghosting car and tags the back of him. JohnnyDee reports that Phil is coming to fast down the straight, as drivers head toward the spot where pit limiter is to be engaged, and rear-ends Johnny. Close examination of the replay shows that Shark is having technical issues, in my replay from 158s to 217s Sharks car is "hung" in the right hander after the chicane so I cant verify Phils ghost problem but agree there is a problem. However, I have to agree with JohnnyDee, Phil appears to be going to fast and brakes to late to avoid rear ending Johnny. Even allowing for a ghosting car this incident should not have happened.

Server replay time: 290s

JohnnyDee misses his braking point into the 2nd chicane and rear ends Locutos who as a result veers into Dan Minton. Locutos goes through the gravel trap collecting a cut track warning, Dan Minton loses a place. Johnny does allow Dan to re-pass on the next lap, penalty reduced by 1.

Server replay time: 430s

Several incidents reported by JohnnyDee involving Shark. Shark has apologised for any problems he caused during the race in public forum, he was not aware he was lagging or he would have dropped.

Technical issue.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 1424s

Reported incidents at 1424 and 1444 by Popabawa and 1460 by Don. Complaints of intimidating flashing lights by Ruskus and Pero when lapping. I quote from rules on lights usage:

"Drivers may flash their headlights (either on-off during the day or off-on during the night) to warn other drivers of their presence. However, a driver being flashed shall not be obligated to let them pass".

Quite frankly Don and Pops I see nothing intimidating in the replay, the 2 lead racers are simply telling you they are there, and obviously it worked. Judging from past incidents where lapped drivers have failed to notice the blue flashing light on the dash warning of an impending car about to lap them, I think Ruskus and Pero are well within there rights.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 1472s

Bill Thomas locks his brakes and loses time into the turn. JohnnyDee states that Bill came back through the racing line on the exit of the turn forcing Johnny to back off and lose time. The replay shows Bill exited the turn slowly but DID NOT do anything untoward. Johnnys speed though the turn carries him naturally towards the point Bills car occupied and therefore Johnny would have to back off to avoid contact unless he expects other drivers to stop and let him by.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 1520s

Bill Thomas approaches the left turn after the S/F straight. He is slower than JohnnyDee who carries much more speed into the turn locking the front in doing so. Johnny states that Bill swung out at the last instant from the left lane onto the racing line. Do I have a different replay to everyone else? I see nothing wrong with Bills line or the way he moved to position himself for the turn. However, Bill should by now have been aware that he was being lapped and would have been better off staying on the left side of track taking a tighter and slower line through the turn allowining JohnnyDee to pass safely.

  • BillThomas (Bill)advice — Be aware of drivers lapping you, blue light flash on dash.

UKGTL Ladder - "GTC 65 Mid-Range" at Zolder

This is the first race of the new rolling ranking aka 'the Ladder'. All members welcome.

Date: Thursday 22nd June

Practice: 20:30 (15 mins)
Qualifying: 20:45 (20 mins)
Race: 21:05 (20 laps = ~40 mins)

Cars allowed: GTC-65: Cobras, TVR, Elan, Corvette, Shelby Daytona Coupé; GTC-TC-76: Porsche 914
Time of day: 12:00 (midday)

Server: UKGTL Ladder
Password: See this post

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules. Note in particular that we will be using the new pit lane speed limiter starting procedure.
(3) General information on the ladder can be found on the series home page.

It will be at Zolder and cars allowed will be mostly GTC-65: Cobras, TVR, Elan, Corvette, Shelby Daytona Coupé. From the 76 cars we will allow the Porsche 914 to see how it compares to the '65ers.

A proper announcement will be posted as soon as we've nailed the new starting procedure down.

Personally it would suit me to move the times up slightly, but we've found in the past that trying to start earlier results in a lot more people not being able to join as it clashes with evening meals and putting kids to bed.

If we were to start 30 minutes earlier is there anyone planning to race who couldn't make it as a result?

(I did get your PM but wasn't going to reply until after publishing this announcement.)

Yep.

Oh is that a simple cut and paste error or are we really racing at Le Mans ?

Sweet Zolder clap. But I'm not sure about the 914 Huh. It will beat a Elan, and in the long run quite possibly the big muscles due to tyres. Will have to do some test laps to know for sure.

I think 40 mins is about 20 laps at about 1:52 pace with a formation lap of about 2:30 so have adjusted the original post as such.

The relative performance between 65 and 76 cars is a "known unknown" - that's why I want to introduce one here so we have a point of comparison.

It's a good idea, the more competitive the cars are, the better. Like I said, I'll do some laps and post it so there is some sort of benchmark.

Did some quick laps with all the cars:

AC Cobra           1:48.764
TVR                  1:50.062
Elan                  1:51.171
Corvette           1:50.743
Shelby              1:50.129
Porsche 914      1:48.005

The ease of the 914, together with the 5 gears, low tyre wear and fuel usage, it will most definatly be the ideal car for this track.

As you can see I can't handle the Elan, I'm better in every muscle car. As long as it has more power than grip, I'm happy. Grin

Looks about right, other than your pitiful Elan time.  Wink Wink Wink angel

Remember the faster cars score less points in the ladder, so just cause you do better on the track doesn't mean you do better in the ladder...
