@Kurt
"thinking about one's racing future"  Don't !  You are like all of us  a  longtime simracer. We don't quit.

But after another disaster race (hands who never had more than one?) it is  always good to remember the basic rule:

It's neither the track nor the car . It's how track and car allow you to do your personal perfect lap in full control, no matter whether this is the fastest or slowest time on the grid.

I tend to forget this myself quite often whereas if I stick to the rule my laptimes and driving fun are so much better !

I had done some practice with the Alfa and Golf, but had a go with the Metro and was much faster in it, thought I might
race with it, but the times other people were getting in the Alfa were 5 secs or better than my Alfa times  Shocked
so thought, ok lets run with the golf, I liked it, it is an easy and fairly fast drive. Race time, and I had several offs
forgetting that some cars don't do kerbs so well, and can't charge through the chaicanes as fast, so ran wide
avoiding them, picking up a stop and go, then, apparently with all the offs I had bent the steering, so was racing
round to catch up trying too hard so went off some more, then decided to try to get fuel, but as I was getting a stop/go
on ever single lap ( I had at least 5) each time I went to pit it refused, it was now impossible to turn right due to a flat left front
so went round the final time and ranout of fuel on the appoach to the final chicane. Most dissapointing, after all the practice I had done.

Don't worry Dan  Wink - maybe phrased incorrectly - but due to artificial & chicaned tracks and other things like BOP (balance of performance) for example with the VLN series at the Nordschleife I indeed lost my passion for real motorsports - except for oldtimer racing. Grin

And I thought Geoffers was quick...  Roll Eyes    Had tried the Rover offline, with a pb of 1:54.9.  What I could conceivably do to my driving and/or setup, to gain seven seconds a lap, to match Dimitar & Hristo's times, is well and truly beyond me  blink

Better start than Dimitar, getting ahead of him.  Held him up over the early laps, Jaguar power being all that kept me ahead. Contemplated letting him past, when a tiny mistake at the second chicane solved the dilemma. Could have passed him again on the way to the next chicane, had I let the Jag run free, but seemed a bit pointless, so reigned it in.  Hit the tyres at the entry, slowing me down and immediately increasing the gap.

Dimitar soon gone, and no one close behind, so rest of the race lonely and boring, with only distractions being lapping slower cars.  On the lap before my 2nd stop, Hristo caught up to me after an earlier stop. Let him past, as we weren't competing, and I was heading for the pits anyway - didn't fancy being rear ended, if my slowing caught him off guard.  Rest of the race uneventful.

Grats to Dimitar & Hristo.  Commiserations to those who had problems; not least Clive with his Win10 woes.  I have a new Win10 Pro bought on sale recently, but yet to install.  Stories like Clive's definitely doesn't encourage..

Things are slowly being reloaded/rebuilt and sorted at chez moi. Tony has been offering help and advice which is much appreciated....and we both needed something to do to occupy our lockdown time anyway  Roll Eyes

GPL is 95% complete, just a couple of the car sets to install ( which require certain tracks to be loaded first ) and all will be done.

GTL is running in "Virgin" form both offline and online, so now I am setting up the 7 dedicated installs for the season's hostilities.

I am sorry Erling, but I really had to chuckle when you mentioned Hristo's and Dimitar's pace. We had many years of Hristo's pace in UKGPL until he got bored with winning every race even in a shopping trolley lol. In those days he was at least my team mate, so that took some of the pain of losing away lol. It looks like Dimitar has the same alien DNA , something to do with genetics in Bulgaria I guess??

See Erling, you wouldn't believe me when I said I didn't have 6 arms & 8 legs!  Grin

Yes absolutely amazing laptimes from the Bulgarian contingent, they were able to take the chicanes much quicker than I could in the BMW. Anyway I have always detested chicanes & this track was festooned with them

My race was fairly lonely too, once I had recovered from hitting two chicanes in the first two laps & overtaken the slower cars. Had both Dimitar & Hristo catch & lap me late in the race & quickly disappear into the distance.

Congrats to both of those & Erling on the podium & to Dom & Tony on their class wins.  clap clap clap

Result

 Cool

Without all these incidents it could have been a nice battle for class victory in Division 1  Tongue

BTW: does there exist a version of the original Enna track (1961 - 1970) (https://database.motorsportmagazine.com/database/circuits/enna-pergusa)

Yes there is Kurt, we used it in the 63 World Sports Car Series which we ran at NoGrip about 3 years ago. It is by Der Dumeklemmer, but I cannot find it with a Google search, so I guess it is not hosted anywhere anymore. I still have it on my external HD somewhere, I will try to find it & upload it somewhere for you, or PM me your email address & I will send it to you. Clive will remember it because I think he won the race.

Correction, the Der Dumeklemmer version still has some chicanes but not as severe as the one we used last night, the chicane-less version was by Philrob.

We have the original chicane-less circuit in GPL and I can tell you that it destroys front left tyres. A bit like Grenzlandring, but turning the other way!!  Roll Eyes

Thanks guys - found the chicaneless version by Philrob for GTR2 over at esport-racing.
Should work in GTL too. I'll give it a try over the weekend.

I had a disappointing race, though 2nd place is still good, considering, and I'm happy that Dimitar managed to get his first victory!

Qualifying wasn't going well at all for me, as I kept hitting traffic on each attempt, but finally found a gap in the dying minutes of the session and managed a personal best by a lot. It was probably down to some additional setup changes I made just before the run. I was actually improving on my 2nd flying lap, with the qualifying session over, but unfortunately the server must have been set to not wait for drivers to finish their flying laps, or someone manually switched sessions. I hope this can be fixed in the future?

At the start I made a good getaway and quickly pulled away from the rest, as they were fighting each other. After building a 7-8 seconds gap, I decided to take it easy, because I noticed the tyres were wearing quicker than I expected, and my plan was to make 2 stops without tyre change. That allowed Dimitar, who in the meantime finally managed to take 2nd place from Erling, to reduce the gap down to around 5 seconds, so then I started pushing more. He was still quicker though, as I was sliding a lot with the tyres past their prime. I had saved some fuel though, and stopped 1 lap later than him, on lap 11. The stop went just fine, but it turns out, for whatever reason, the game automatically turns off the pitlane limiter when you make a stop, so I oversped on the exit and got a 10 secs stop/go penalty... Is this something to do with server settings or is it the game? I don't really remember this from my racing years back.

Anyway, I was surprised to be over 16 seconds in front of Dimitar, so I thought he must have had some troubles, or changed tyres during his stop. I did my stop/go, dropped behind him, but then I couldn't really do much to reduce the gap, which was around 20 seconds in his favour now. The car was sliding more and more because of the tyre wear (and my aggressive setup I guess), so I was planning something else - to make a stop 1-2 laps earlier than him, change tyres (thinking refuelling and tyre change happen simultaneously), and then try to catch him up in the remaining 10 laps. That didn't work out though - my stop took over 43 seconds!

I was surprised to still be around 22 seconds behind him, so I tried my best anyway, but then 5 laps from the end I realized I wasn't going to make it on fuel if I didn't short-shift, so that pretty much ended my challenge.

Congrats to Dimitar and everyone else, I really enjoyed this track! I remember the chicaneless version from GPL, but the chicanes made it challenging with these cars here.
