Car/Track download available by pm to WT

Track: Osterrichring '77-'87 GP

Car restrictions: Four drives maximum per Division. Check your car allowance here

Points: We are recreating the scoring system that was used in the 1983 ETCC. Overall race result, top 6 scored 9-6-4-3-2-1, In each division, top 10 scored 20-15-12-10-8-6-4-3-2-1.

Practice: ~19:20 (60 mins)
Qualifying: 20:20 (20 mins) Drivers must not leave qualifying to change car make.
Race: 20:40 (26 laps)

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: x2
Pit stops required: YES

Server: simracing.org.uk Wednesday
Password: see above

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: None

Well made a mess of that. After a good battle with Erling for a few laps, I came into the pits & in deploying the speed limiter I also caught the chat key, so when I stopped at the pit I could not alter the pitboard until I had cancelled the chat which also started the pit action. So tyres were changed & bodywork repaired but no fuel added, so decided to do a slow lap to get around to the pits with about 3/4 lap of fuel but forgot the pit limiter on the way out so got an S/G, no chance of doing two laps on that fuel so race over. Roll Eyes

Congrats to the podium & to Erling winning the 1600s.  clap clap

Well, that went much better than I expected  Grin

Grats to Matt and the speed he carried in that Alfa and to Tony on a great Podium. Plus all the other finishers and Erling who has wrapped up the 1600cc class. Great fun in these cars  Grin Grin Grin

After earlier posts about what a tank the XJS was I somehow figured that this circuit with long straights might be the place to use it and suffer minimal pain? I plundered Geoffers' online setup for this series and although I found it driveable, I felt that it could go quicker if I could find the magic tweaks.
I had joined the server early and set about slowly improving things.
I fully expected that the alien hordes would swamp my times, but the purpose of the exercise was to use the monster XJS and finish the race.

I kept waiting for my grid position to drop, but only Matt and Tony in their Alfa's pushed me back??? Maybe there were some points available for me to steal here??
I knew that the XJS was going to need 2 stops and that was a problem...a) because I suck at pitstops and b) because it was 2 stops and this car eats tyres and fuel at a colossal rate!!
My strategy was simple, just "drive it like I stole it" and build as big a lead as I could for the pitstops.

The sheer grunt of the XJS got me ahead at the start and slowly I eased away from Matt and Tony until the front left tyre self ignited after 6 laps!! The car would only just complete 11 laps with a very frugal last lap and a coast into the pits...............then I faffed around with the pit board losing 10 secs!!
Same again for the next 11 laps, until the 2nd stop for a splash ( well a more of a small deluge of fuel ) and dash.
Once again fluffed the pitboard settings and lost time and also somehow lost my Xhud too  Undecided
I had guessed the amount of fuel for the final 3 laps and did not change tyres, but I emerged from the pits with no idea if I had put in enough gas??!! Matt roared past as I was trundling down a very long pit lane, but no-one else  Roll Eyes, so maybe I was 2nd?? Without the Xhud I had no idea which lap I was on either.
Fortunately there was no car visible in my mirror so I decided to cruise the last laps and hope that no-one caught me. The last 2 laps  had the low fuel light flashing but the engine kept turning and it was not until I crossed the finish line that I could breathe again lol.

The XJS was not as bad as I had expected, obviously very fast in a straight line, but a real super tanker in the corners  Undecided

Good fun  Grin I like the GTV, it is almost as fast as the SD rover in a straight line, and way better in the corners
A surprise pole with all the Aliens  alien whizzing round in their saucers. Start was poor, Clive shot off with twice
the cylinders, and managed to hold Tony off until we had a "misunderstanding" in the chicane, but then had
loadsafun catching others, and managed to do half decent stops and came out of stop 2  37secs behind
Clive, then passed him in his stop, held the gap more or less to the finish, was wondering why Tony was
so far behind, but the replay shows some pretty aerobatics which explains it. Didn't realise there were stops
until I filled for the start, and would do less than half the race  Shocked thought I might just get away with one stop
but would have been a dodgy last lap, so filled up with fuel both stops and left tyres to get a bit red.

Like the Alfa too - smooth drive although not as fast as the others. Unfortunately no drive left.
Had hoped that I could catch Fulvio in the Rover but it looked like the Rover didn't need a second pit-stop
(which the Alfa definitely needed, the more as I decided to change front tyres with the second pit-stop)
or Fulvio paid attention for saving fuel the whole race.
It looked like I had to make a splash & dash around lap 25 so I did my second pit-stop around lap 16 and could
concentrate in chasing the others till the end.

CU next time.

Should probably have picked another car in retrospect, but had practiced the most in the Golf and had to drive the darn thing some time. When Geoffers showed up in the same class, it was obvious it wouldn't be a walk in the park.

After he got delayed on L1, we had a good fight in the first stint.  When he left after the pit stop, my race got very lonely indeed.  Committed a humungus tactical blunder.  Offline testing indicated 12 laps was the most I could do in a stint, and so would need 2 stops.  In the race however, XD suggested 13 laps was possible, but to have a safety margin, I followed Geoffers into the pits on L12.  Only far into the 2nd stint, did it hit me that had I done 13 laps instead, I could have gotten off with 1 stop, possibly upstaging a faster car needing 2.

Nothing to do however; needed a 2nd stop, unless I was lapped, which I for once wished for. Glanced in vain at the mirror however, as it remained empty and thus had to splash-n-dash (Clarification for the results: I was lapped while in the pits).

Grats to Matt & podium.   Not sure about the grats regarding the small class - plenty of races left for someone to score more points than me, unless I'm missing something  Huh

The answer is quite simple: Fulvio's pit-stops were about 30 to 40 seconds faster than mine.
Maybe therefore I didn't realize his second one during the race.  Roll Eyes

Hi guys,

Sorry for not having been around. It's been a mad, hectic week. Some bad stuff, some good stuff. The best of that is an employment opportunity completely out of the blue as soon as possibly August (depending on how Covid behaves). Just making the list of things I need to brush up on left me in a state of panic, lol. Maths! Economics! Accounting! ERP! All the things I used to be brilliant at but haven't used in erm...., way too long to admit to.
I haven't even gotten around to installing Erling's super-generous gift. I absolutely need my PC in full working order and messing with hardware and drivers is most definitely not on the list of things I'm brilliant at. I'm bound to make a mess of it right now (meanwhile I'm on a GTX770 clone loaner).
In short, I just don't have the peace of mind for racing at the moment. It should get better if/when I get through that brushing-up list.

Hope y'all are having fun!
