Championship standings HERE

Grid/server capacity: 22

Car/Track download available by pm to WT

Track: Nurburgring Nordschleife '83 GP (Tourist Final)

Car restrictions: Four drives maximum per Division. Check your car allowance here

Points: We are recreating the scoring system that was used in the 1983 ETCC. Overall race result, top 6 scored 9-6-4-3-2-1, In each division, top 10 scored 20-15-12-10-8-6-4-3-2-1.

Practice: ~19:20 (60 mins)
Qualifying: 20:20 (20 mins) Drivers must not leave qualifying to change car make.
Race: 20:40 (7 laps)

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal
Pit stops required: YES

Server: simracing.org.uk Wednesday
Password: see above

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: The start line is on an incline. If you roll backwards before the green light you will get a stop/go penalty. Some kind of braking device would seem to be in order.

Tony, cut warnings seems quite agressive - maybe an idea to turn them off ?

Have had several warnings during my practice, and in no instance did I gain anything, on the contrary, I lost time.  Having 8+ minutes laps annulled is really frustrating (16+ minutes, if you have to do a new out lap)

Btw, is there any way to get the lap timer running on the out lap?   Really silly that it doesn't, as you enter the track well in advance of the start/finish.

I seem to remember that if you cross the S/F line on your out lap & then esc back to the paddock, the next time you cross the S/F line the timer will start, but you will need to test it. The car I am using does not have one so cannot be sure.

Dang. Was having a superb race, when I seemed to get auto gears, fumbled around the (distant) keyboard and hit escape
by mistake.  taz

Well, i am starting to love this circuit.

Even though i am a big nature, forest, mountain lover somehow i though i don't going to learn the circuit for less than one month or so, so i was planning to miss all the events in the leagues i driving. Fortunately Hristo was here to help. As he convinced me to give it a go. And to be exact i didn't expected to learned it so fast.

I was going OK in the previous race here but this time i think i now know 90% of the circuit as after every lap i became faster and faster and braver.

Yes its not a great achievement to finish in P6 but for me the fact that i was able to finish without one big mistake is an achievement. And the consistency was there as well.

For the race - i don't have much to say. I had good chase with Dan who was faster on the straights but i was faster on the corners. My plan was to go to the pits on the last moment so i can fuel less fuel on the tank and lose small amount of time and to make some advantage to him with the light car as he went to the box early and had more fuel onboard. After his pit stop he started to lose some time and unfortunately made some mistakes, so it was easy to me to keep the 6th position.

The more interesting moment was when someone span and 3 cars was blocked behind him and that gave me the chance to take 4 positions.

At the end i finished 27-8 second behind Geoffers in the podium and just 8 behind Coyote.

Congrats to Daz for the win and to Clive and Geoffers for the podium. Smiley And i am sorry for Matt as this reminds me of one situation in one Bulgarian Formula 1 championship in the distant past where two guys were fighting for the title in the last race, as one of them was in the lead and about to take the championship, so in the straights he was disabling the steering help for more top speed and instead of F1 key he pressed the ESC key... So Matt, you'll get 'em next time!  Tongue

Result

 Cool

Would have mastered nearly 8 laps without pitting/refuelling. Roll Eyes

Always like all version of the Nordschleife.

Looking forward to a week with temperatures around 35°C - so next weeks events are more than doubtful.....
I really hate this time of the year.  Tongue

Finally a chance to try the Alfa. I had avoided using this car for no other reason than ......I had not tried it!

But with a few tweaks to the default setup I uncovered a car that was quite impressive...although it turned out to not be quite impressive as the one Daz had found!!  Undecided
It does seem that the Alfa is the stand out car in it's group and now I know why.

I have a theory about the Nurburgring and qualifying. The lap is so long and the opportunities for mistakes are so great that everything can change within a lap anyway......................maybe if you have a car that is 5-10 seconds faster it is worth starting on pole and running away?

Anyway the first lap was hugely entertaining as Daz, Geoffers and Matt knocked lumps off of each others cars and I spent my time avoiding various wing mirrors....door handles..... and various other bits of bodywork that were being discarded. I had a grandstand seat until it all got very congested at one point and I was sucked into the melee. As a result I dropped a few places but the long straight at the end of the lap was just made for the Alfa  Wink
Sure enough as we entered the long straight, I had Geoffers snapping at my heels and Erling and Hristo ahead.......when I braked at the end of the straight I had Matt a few seconds ahead and erling, Geoffers and Hristo quite a way behind  Roll Eyes

I hunted down Matt who was really wrestling that tank of a Rover and I thought that I was extremely patient  in waiting for a passing chance, which Matt duly gave me and which a gratefully accepted  Grin

By this time Daz was literally miles ahead, and anyway he was lapping around 5 -10 seconds faster so I was never going to bother him!!!!
Once I had worked my way up to 2nd place it was only the pitstop that could screw my chances. This time I avoided panic and carefully arranged a few gallons of fuel and continued with the old tyres as they looked in pretty good nick. Only those of you who have experienced the pit stop gremlins will appreciate the huge relief of emerging from the pits without penalty and with fuel and tyres to finish the race  sweatdrop sweatdrop
I emerged from the pits still in 2nd spot, so it was simply a case of keeping things safe  for the last 2 laps and protecting my podium spot.

Apologies for my "chat" before all had finished after the race........I know better  Undecided
