Time of Day Setting: 14:00

Server: simracing.org.uk Wednesdays

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: None.

Is it possible, that the ACE and the DBR1 are not on the server (only tried to test these two online)?

There is a little problem with the Mercedes car. If you don't tick the "use original sound" bar, there is no sound for the car. I have tested Number 53.

You need to download the Mercedes 300SEL. Then you can use those sounds.

Or download this http://www.mediafire.com/file/ffwqwlnyizl0gpl/AMG_6%252C8l_SEL.zip/file and unzip to your sounds folder.

The event was so tough! At the qualifying i was not making a good lap until the end, where i made new personal best, even though i went off the grass on the exit of the final corner, but right after that Coyote went faster than me and took the second position, as there was no fight because Geoffers was to quick.

I started the race started OK, as i had some battle with Daz and Coyote for the second but Coyote was able to take it and i was in P3. After that i think Daz went off the air which was funny to see, but not for him for sure, and I was in P3 until the middle of the race when my tires just went crazy. Two mistakes for just 1 minutes and i went back to P5. After that we made great battle with Clive for the fourth position and i was the winner as he unfortunately slip the car in the penultimate lap. We had some contacts based on my driving but all of them was because on the hard handling of the car at that time.

At the end not the best race for me but at least i finished in P4 as the situation could have been worse with the mistakes i made and the damage and tire wear i had.

Congrats to Geoffers for the wonderful victory and to Coyote & Daz (great recovery from last position) for the podium positions.

During the last days I was busy trying to improve my FFB / G25 wheel settings in order to reduce my recent deficit to the back of the field
(there are some instructions available at different websites) after some drivers comparable to my personal level are gone.
Depending on the car I'm a little bit optimistic to make some progress - but unfortunately not yet yesterday.
Stuck about 1:05.6 in the DBR1 offline with AI about 1:05.0 (in the DBR1 too), so I was a bit surprised about the "alien's" times online around 1:02.
Chose the 300SL which was a bit faster in my hands and at least could register some new PB's.

So all upcoming events will be a kind of a driving school for me, but not much to expect.

Hope dies last  Tongue

That unexpectedly went a lot better than anticipated. I don't think I've ever had any decent result with early AM's. Heck I might not even have finished with one. I had at first selected the Ace and while perfectly comfortable with it, it felt soo, soo slow (I'm no Daz!). Since this is a limited car use series I picked the AM with a sense of "Let's get it over with". But practice and qually went quite decently with not THAT much of a gap to the competent drivers. The first 25 laps or so of the race were not bad either. One big spin, many, many small ones but overall ending up in 6th at that point was way above my expectations. With five aliens in front there was little point in keeping up the effort but when I cooled down a little, Matt was gaining scarily fast so I was forced to work for it till the very end. And work it was. The car was all over the place. I don't even have the technical terminology to describe it. After having watched Dimitar's video though (great job again), I reckon my experience was near identical to his. Same problems, same spots, especially in the last 20 laps.

Apologies if I got in anyone's way at any point, but that was all the control I had of the car. I mostly let it do what it wanted to do. Nose goes without warning in the direction of the corner: fine, that'll be a fast lap. Nose goes without warning in the other direction: also fine, slow lap it is.

Congrats to the Aston Martin Aces, Geoff and Coyote and to the Cobra Ace Ace, Daz.

Lol Dom, I'm not that good.

Don't normally find time for write ups, but have to do one having read that.

AC Ace was my option as I don't normally get on very well with these cars so wanted something friendly and easy to push on this tight circuit. I have driven the Ace before, about 3 years ago, so knew I had a setup from previously to rely on, from back in the day when I used to find time to refine setups.....Plus, I figured the AC might be more competitive here than a longer, faster circuit, so made sense to get it out of the way if the number of times it can be used is limited.

Best lap in practise was 1.02.9, put longer gears on it in quali and immediately did 1.02.4 on my first flying lap, which I then couldn't beat even though I was up numerous times.

Initial start decent, but then ended up a long way in the air from a small touch, Mercedes collision bug used to be an issue I seem to remember, so maybe something to do with that. Landed facing backwards at the hairpin, and decided to let the field go rather than dive across and cause a pile up. This dropped me from 2nd/3rd/4th to dead last. Car was a little damaged, but nothing too disastrous.

I had a lot of guys at the back of the field be very courteous to me on my charge back through, my thanks to you all for allowing me to go on through unabated. Pace seemed decent, and once past Dom for 5th after he jumped out of the way (or the car jumped for him) I closed on Clive. Nice battle followed, with Dimitar closing in from behind me after one of his spins from 3rd place. But after a few laps looking, eventually I was through and on my way. Knew I wouldn't catch erling, so settled down for a consistent second half of the race.

That didn't work out as 2 laps later my upshift paddle on my wheel cracked and fell apart, and I was continually failing on upshifts for the rest of the race which made it harder work than before. Might have to get the separate shifters out and see if they still work as having taken the wheel apart the paddle is totally shattered into about 6 pieces....

Tires lasted just fine, and I crossed the line with around half a tank of fuel, so got that very wrong as well it seems.....Not normally my bag but this was good fun, grats to all involved.

I almost missed this race entirely. I think that maybe because we did a run on Monday, I felt that I received my "fix" of GTL for this week??
The penny dropped at around 7:45 and some frantic downloading and installing got me onto the server at around 8:00, breathing heavily!! I always look forward to these older cars and was relieved to have got myself organised.

I had obviously done no practice, or preparation for the race, so deciding which car to take was a meaningless choice. I literally clicked on the first car that I saw on the list that I recognised as being valid and that was the Healey 100. So practice was all about tweaking the default setup to make it at least predictable and more suited to my driving style  Roll Eyes.

Eventually a lowering of the final drive and some clicks on the springs and dampers yielded reasonable results. In fact I was quite impressed with my grid position, but was under no illusion that it was unlikely to be where I would finish. lol.

I had zero chance of living with the speed of the DB1's in my 4 speed Healey, but I planned that if I kept things steady I might have more rubber left in the later laps...….actually it was not even a proper plan, more of a desperate hope!!
Things were very tight and close for the first laps until Daz performed his aerial ballet and I was able to drive straight underneath him  Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked
The ensuing chaos allowed the fast guys to escape at the front and I settled in, trying to maintain a steady pace.
At around half distance Dimitar, Erling and Geoffers were distant memories and I was circulating on my own. Then suddenly Dimitar was struggling off of the grass and only a couple of seconds ahead……..ooh!!

The rest of the race was all about Dimitar's lack of tyres, my lack of outright speed and a rapidly recovering Daz. Daz decided that he did not want to play in a 3 way battle and presumably went to look for Erling??
For maybe 20+ laps Dimitar and myself had great fun battling each other until he made a major error with only 5 laps to go and gifting me a 5 second lead and a perfect chance to steal 4th spot. All I had to do was drive steadily and manage the gap, so that I finished just ahead of Dimitar's faster DB1....perfect!
Except...
I was focusing too much on the mirror and not enough on the road ahead  Undecided Then with just 2 laps to go and still with 1 second in my pocket and feeling quite comfortable, I put a wheel on the grass and pushed just a little too hard spinning the car around and gifting the place back to Dimitar  Sad
I just got going again before Dominick demoted me further down the finishing order.
The result was not as important as the huge fun of the race.  Grin

Thanks and grats to all those involved in the race, the podium and the organising.  Grin Grin

A very tough race, demanding absolute concentration.  It was so easy to lose control of the car, and with the generous (but fair) cut warnings in the chicanes, it would be very easy to get a S/G.  As I had feared, I got a warning already at the start, due to congestion at the first chicane forcing me to cut.  Thus had to be very careful in the entire race.

Obviously couldn't live with Geoffers pace, so he soon disappeared. Had Dimitar not far behind for the first quarter of the race, but then he dropped back after spinning the car.  Lonely race after that, apart from lapping a few cars, some of whom were not exactly easy to get past.

Grats to Geoffers on an untouchable win, and to Daz for a great recovery to take 3rd.

For those struggling with the Aston (are there any that don't, apart from Geoffers  Wink) ?
If you're on Dunlop tyres and haven't tried the vintage ones, I'd suggest doing so. They have less grip, but historically I've always felt the Dunlops exacerbate the car's vices, so prefer the vintage ones myself. They need much different tyre pressures, so make sure you get that adjusted.
