Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: None.

After making my first three laps here i can say that the Aston Martin DBR1 is a joy. So much controlled sliding and the track is very cool as well and so beautiful with all these trees. Hope it's gonna be nice race tonight. Smiley

Anyone else having problems connecting ?

I get a timeout when trying to get to the server list, with a 'Could not connect to the server' error message'.

Hi guys,

when I started out for testing here I had two really bad lockups of my PC. At this point it's barely functional, with just safe mode without network (I'm typing this on my neighbour's laptop).
I strongly suspect my graphics card is fried as anything I attempt to do which involves the triple screens just remains on black screen forever.
I tried to warn y'all in case the track had anything to do with it (not likely though) but it took me hours to get this far (you guessed it; all my logins and passes are stored in that PC).
Anyway, I hope I was the only with such troubles and I'm afraid I have no idea when I'll be able to rejoin since I can't afford a new range of cards let alone a new PC. Hopefully ebay will turn out to be an alternative.

I'm starting to take the 2020 catastrophes very personal.....  Cry Sad

Good luck to y'all and hopefully till soon,

Cheers,
Dom

No idea why I couldn't connect  Huh

Have changed absolutely nothing on the PC since Monday

Tried repeatedly; restarted GTL, restarted PC.  Internet obviously working - otherwise I wouldn't have been able to post in the forum.  Checked firewall, which was set to allow GTL access. Disabled firewall, and still no go.  Tried other GTL install - same problem.  Checked lobby file, which was unchanged.  Then with qual running out, it suddenly worked again.  No time to set a time, but with the laptimes posted by the front runners, it would have been quite pointless anyway, so not much harm done.

Dom:  If it's just a video card you need, I have an Asus Radeon R9 270, brand new, newer used.  Yours for free if you want it - just cover the shipping costs (I got it for free myself).  You mention tripple monitors though.  It has enough outputs for 3 monitors (DVI, DVI/VGA, HDMI, DisplayPort), but whether it's powerful enough to run 3 monitors I can't say.  Has 2Gb VRAM.

Nice gesture Erling. I also have some old graphics card's in a drawer in my shed but I don't think there anywhere good enough for a triple monitor setup.

IMPORTANT

The replay shows a number of driver's constantly cutting at Turn 2. This is considered as gaining an unfair advantage.

UKGTL consider a "Minimum of two wheels on the tarmac at all times" as a good rule to have and to adhere to.

The Incident Moderator will take no action as this time, however, any further transgressions will be acted upon and penalties may be given.

WICHTIG

Well, I got the network going again (yay, internet) and even the sound in safe mode which is normally not possible and requires some precarious Registry tweaking so now I can even watch Youtube vidoes in Safe Mode, lol. Never knew that was even a thing.

BUT, that doesn't solve the primary problem of course which I'm now 99% sure to be the GPU. I mean, what else could it be?

So this:
Dom:  If it's just a video card you need, I have an Asus Radeon R9 270, brand new, newer used.  Yours for free if you want it - just cover the shipping costs (I got it for free myself).  You mention tripple monitors though.  It has enough outputs for 3 monitors (DVI, DVI/VGA, HDMI, DisplayPort), but whether it's powerful enough to run 3 monitors I can't say.  Has 2Gb VRAM.
is like a gift from an angel straight out of the sky.  I Am Not Worthy thumbup1 thumbup2

So here's the plan. This morning I'm off to the PC shop and I'll ask them if they confirm it's the GPU and if that's the case whether an Asus Radeon R9 270 is a potential solution, even if only on single screen. I'd miss triples but I'd settle for single in a heartbeat in the current circumstances. I can always revisit that when/if my jobs recommence after the apocalyptic plague and after all, the monitors are all fine.

You wouldn't happen to be into backyard astronomy, Ehrling? I've got this Tal 2M sitting around I haven't touched in years so a trade would be fine too. It's Siberian and a monster though (45kg or so). Shipping would be a bit of a hassle. Or if you're a bibliophile, there are a lot of options for a trade too. I'll get back to you (on PM) once I know more. But I'm already very thankful for the offer. Can I shine your shoes for the next year or so in any case?

So sorry to hear that Dom, hope everything is going to be back to normal soon.

The track and car combination was so cool here. The car had so much slide and it was hard to keep the tempo for all 40 laps. At the second part of the race the tires were going to play big part in the standings for me.

The quali went OK, as i took off some fuel and become a little bit faster but i think the car had few more tents in it but i just couldn't make that killer lap and take the third position from Clive.

At the start Dan has made a great start and went to P3 and for a while we had great chase and battle with him and Clive. At some point i were in P3 but didn't understand how this happened, as i thought i have blocked Clive or something, so i decided to let him pass. Now as i had saw the replay from my video it turned out that his car just froze for a second. Hopefully no damage to our cars and we continued in P3 and 4. I was pushing to stay with Clive in the next maybe 10 laps but he was maybe 1 tent of the second faster so it was clear that it's gonna be very hard to take the podium here.

After the first 20 laps the car just become slower and slower after every lap. So i started monitoring Geoffers' pace as he was in P5. He was a little bit faster, especially after my tire problems. At some point he made a mistake and the gap went to 8 seconds, and few laps before the end of the race i locked up the brakes and make a mistake by my own. And now the gap was just 2.5 seconds. I gave everything, Geoff was trying very hard as well i thing and everything was going to be decided on the last corner of the last lap. I went a little bit more insight, trying to protect my position from eventual diving, but unfortunately i locked again the brakes and the car went on the grass, which was enough for Geoff to take the P4.

Congrats to Manfred for the great win, to Daz and Clive for the podium and to Geoffers, Dan and Clive again for the great chases and fights.

Simply wasn't able to make that chicane as I should and nevertheless I was 5 to 6 seconds off the pace  Tongue

Took the Jag for this one as in praccy it proved to be the quickest in my hands and also it reserved the better handling cars for later races. Spent ages trying to dial out the unpredictable handling under heavy braking and thought I had it sorted. Later events proved otherwise however.
In the heat of battle I forgot about how the car handled under anything other than soft braking and consequently became a passenger everytime I had to brake hard as the car took over and decided where we were going. Would (should) have quit but I wanted my moneys worth so battled on. Thankfully managed to stay out of everyone's way and thanks to Dan had some very funny laps. The car was definately faster in a straight line but devilish at turns, sometimes behaving, sometimes not. Well done the other Jag guys who managed to hold it all together  I Am Not Worthy

Astronomy has in fact been a lifelong interest for me, and I've recently taken up astrophotography as a new hobby  Smiley  However, shipping that 45kg Tal behemoth would surely cost more than a new video card, and it's really not necessary - don't need anything in return; just glad to help if I can.

Maybe try using the Vintage tyre option when there is one?

Quite pleased with my race in the D-type, not the easiest car to drive.

For a few laps it looked like being a lonely race, although with the unpredictable Jag handling that may have been a blessing. The top 5 quickly pulled away & only Erling was quite close behind but gradually dropping away. However after around 10 laps I came across the recovering group of Clive, Dimitar & Dan, got ahead of Dan who then dropped way back & then began a long chase of Dimitar. Initially he pulled away but from half distance I began catching him again & it was hard to resist the temptation to push a bit more & risk an error.
I did make one error around 3/4 distance when I lost control braking for the hairpin behind the pits & glanced the barriers, I thought my chances of catching Dimitar were gone but a few laps later he made an error & the gap closed again. By the final lap I was less than a second behind & on the approach to the final turn I was right on Dimitar's tail, he went defensive but locked his brakes, skated wide & I nipped through on the inside to nab 4th place. Bad luck Dimitar.

Congrats to Manfred, Daz & Clive  clap clap clap

On the tyres, I tried both types in testing & found the Vintage ones to be quicker. However the Dunlops seemed less inclined to oversteer but more inclined to understeer, (cue eureka moment), how about using Vintage on the front & Dunlops on the rear, best of both worlds. Err, no, the car was virtually undriveable so that idea ended up in the bin & I went with the Vintage tyres. Roll Eyes
