Season 35 Sport Cars Extra Cup – Round 10 – Road America

The 10th round of the Season 35 SCx will be at Road America in the USA. The track covers 640 acres (2.6 km2) within Wisconsin’s Kettle Moraine. It is near the Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive and has hosted races since September 1955. It currently hosts over 400 events a year. Road America has not been modified and retains its original configuration of 4.048 miles (6.515 km) in length and consisting of 14 turns. The track features many elevation changes, along with a long front stretch where speeds approaching 200 mph (320 km/h) may be reached. One of the best known features of this course is a demanding right hand turn known as "the kink." Road America's open seating allows spectators to venture throughout the grounds. Grandstands are available in several locations, as well as permanent hillside seating where crowds of more than 150,000 can be accommodated.

The Sports Cars Extra mod is new for UKGPL this season.
Please check the Season 35 pages for details regarding rules and the Sports Cars Extra pages in particular.
Drivers must complete 50% of each race to score points.

Each driver must select two cars at the start of his season.
The choices must be declared in the race post for the first round you compete in.
- Professional drivers, the combined ranking points for the cars should amount to at least 6 points.
- Amateur drivers, the combined ranking points for the cars should amount to at least 5 points.
The car with the higher rank points must be used at least as many times as the car with the lower rank points.

Unfortunately I'm going to miss this race tonight, I've got to collect my dad from the airport.

Thanks to Axel for organising a great series, it has been fun but it was a pity we didn't have a few more Privateer drivers.

Grats to Greg and his monster Chapp 2F on a dominant win.

The long term plan for my campaign was to take the Ferrari for this final race, but the real world intervened this week and I was forced to make a decision.
I won't go into details about my op last week, suffice it to say that there were literally a couple of heart stopping moments, both during and after the procedure. Gradually feeling better day by day but it is "up and down". So I had done no practice for this race and as I was not feeling 100%, or particularly competitive, in order to try and hold on to a possible series win I opted for the stable and reliable Porker.

All I wanted to do was finish and hopefully score a few points without any drama. Subject to moderations it looks like I might have done the job, but Greg was certainly on a mission and just a couple of different results through the season could have changed things.

Grats to all finishers, apologies to Fulvio for scratching the paint on his Ferrari and thanks to Axel for organising a fun series. I liked the car choice points system and thought that it worked well.

Grats for the champ Clive! And sorry for our contact exiting last turn, I think there was some warp cause you were smashed around in a big spin after a little touch. You were very fast! I was on default setup with no practice and my car was too understeering.
Next season!

I did not think that I was fast Fulvio, simply running on auto pilot and trying to get to the finish to claim a few points. The battle that you had with Axel was the reason that I caught you, but all of my gains were through the twisty bits and I don't think I could have made a pass stick, because of your speed on the straights.

Congrats Clive! The champion! I'm glad you were able to race most if not all the races. It's a shame we didn't have more drivers and I wish Tim would have finished the season.

Clive, I hope you recover quickly. Early in practice I wondered where you were. I didn't want you to miss this race.

just a couple of different results through the season could have changed things.

You could say I "cheated". The way I felt at my first race of the season, I didn't think I would do as well as I did. I did think my car choices would score the most points I was capable of scoring. Now, without an injury I think the Chap 2D and Porsche would score the most points. I also took the 2F because it's the easiest to drive, and I wanted to learn to drive it. I hadn't driven either car until a day or two before my first race. There could have been a lot more close racing had I chosen the same cars as Clive, Tim, and Tristan except I was incapable of taking any real pressure when I started the season.

The 2F is an incredible car. It's braking performance was exceptional here. It's forgiving too. You can recover from many mistakes just by lifting off the throttle completely. I'll use this track for some more testing. I ran the maximum wing angle, 12 degrees, in all the races. I think a little less wing might make the car faster. The rear of the car was firmly planted. The left front tire was the only one I got to a good temperature. Less wing should heat the rear tires better while still giving the car good grip. That might allow me to drive the car smoother. Driving the car smoothly seems to be the most difficult thing to do with the 2F.

Thanks for letting me race with you. I wasn't really up to the task of some high pressure racing, but I did enjoy learning to drive some new cars. Thanks for hosting Axel. It's very nice to do it for us. Take care guys.

Now ain't that a crying shame
Now wouldn't it be a real drag if we were all the same
