Belated happy new year guys, have a great 2020.

Finally got some laps in today, felt great to get back behind the wheel but a bit of a Shock to the system  to blat a 70’s F1 car around Monaco  surrender
Can’t believe stracker only recorded 4 timed laps despite an hour on track  Shocked stupid cut warnings  Tongue can see I’m off the pace too  Sad
Is there a trick way of improving steering lock for this track? I’m nearly dislocating my wrist in the hairpin! Older sims let you tweak steering lock in settings for tight tracks like this. A track like this is a real tester for setup options  Undecided I can’t seem to dial out the understeer yet.

Have to say the track looks amazing in the rift, total immersion  Cool Got my new one today but not installed it yet as realised I haven’t got a spare DisplayPort with triple monitors wired in  Roll Eyes

Intending to race for the remainder of this series. Got my PC up and running (with some stupid bugs, like problems with sound and wheel.. pfff) Anyway, my DIY playseat is working nicely so i am happy to try it at Monaco. That will be the real test.  angel

glad to hear you are back in the fray Stefan and it beefs the grid up a tad more  Smiley

Bit surprised at the lack of practise laps recorded so far with a two week lead in, but guess we were all busy over christmas. I'm sure you will all pump in 50 laps each before wednesday  Wink

ps...omg on the new Rift S here  Shocked  Just the upgrade i was hoping for on the visuals punk

Take it from me Bob, it was worth doing. Get one in the sales while they have £50 knocked off, which is what i did!  I'll caveat it with saying i was quite impressed how good the Rift cv1 was here at Monaco (no idea why some tracks look much better than others in VR  Undecided ) but the Rift S was another level in improvement (i would say monitor quality) so maybe wait until i've tested it in a variety of cars/tracks.
I also started using it in Dirt Rally2 and my stage times instantly improved over using my triples.  Smiley  Its also far comfier to wear for longer periods and has more room if you wear glasses for the pc. Can imagine its great for flight sims as well as you can actually pick out finer details now with the improved resolution.
If anyone is looking to get VR at a bargain price, i'll flog my Cv1 for £100, works perfectly, still got the original box etc.

Should be around for this one. I know the track and the car but won't have time to practice before race night so probably defer quali and keep out of the first lap action.

Gonna have to agree,  I also picked one up in the sales to test some things and its much improved over the original CV1 rift. Much clearer picture and a lot of the lens flare / god rays are gone Cool, and bonus no more annoying tracking sensors.  For the money its great.

Visually still not quite as good as a vive-pro with lens mod though...

Back on topic,  sorry to be lame but I'm gonna miss this race too.  On the upside, I've so almost finished my motion system (just tested it and its ALIVE!  ) so now I just need to attach it to my frame and tidy up a few bits then I'm definitely back to racing very soon  Grin

for those struggling on setup here, a few pointers...

Short gears, i dont even use 5th, just set your 1st to 4th to suit the short spurts between corners. Bit trial and error, i ping my limiter in a couple of areas but just not worth the up-shift if you have to manual shift like i do.

Front wing - high to max
Rear Wing - high to max

Power diff - higher for better traction
Coast diff - higher ( i think - but the more you add the less resistant it will be to turning so not too much)

Front camber - bit more neg than normal (but dont go mad)
Rear camber - you want the rear tyres planted so default is probably enough

Toe - front toe out  - increases turn in and puts heat into the front tyres
rear toe in for stability, or rear toe out for tighter cornering. - bit of a balancing act - try adjusting one notch at a time.

Front ARB - Stiff
Rear ARB - Firm

Springs - softer to medium ( think i'm 2 clicks up from bottom)

Dampers - i've increased rebound on front and rear

Brake bias - slightly rear to help with corner rotation
Also, lower your brake pressure to avoid lock ups when you stamp on the stop peddle!

Hope that helps, happy to hear contradictions.  angel

To clarify on the diff settings.
Increasing power or coast will make the wheels rotate less in relation to each other - increasing coast will actually increase understeer into turns up to a point.

If you've made the car rotate more under deceleration conditions it's more likely to be a combination of softer springs plus a stiffer rear ARB allowing the inner wheel to be lifted as the car rolls on the springs.

Alternatively you're running too much coast. This will move to car towards a solid diff in behaviour, and cause it to rotate more easily in tight and heaviy loaded turns as the diff forces the rear to loose traction when it locks solid entering a turn - this will be especially noticeable if you have low pre-load as the difference in locking between neutral input (not accelerating or coasting) and a loaded input becomes excessive - causing almost instant locking of the axle. This can work in your favour but restricts you in how to attack a corner, as you've got pretty much only one way of braking and turning now.

Either that or there's a serious bug in the car physics  Grin

FWIW I'm running pretty much the same mid/low coast/power settings as at previous rounds - I think I've actually opened it up a bit and then played with the pre-load and brake bias to make it behave as I want.

@pete are you okay for doing the server?

Not sure if I’ll race tonight yet, have had a pretty traumatic day at the hospital  Sad but a distraction may be a tonic.

Server is up

@Mark - just linked the race to the topic in LM2 so everyone (like me) who's forgotten the password can see it. Almost made me late again Wink
