Hopefully I'll be home in time to make at least the warmup.

We'll try a rolling start this week but we'll also try a standing start at some point as these cars have launch control. Smiley

David Greco has a good base setup on his website.

How do I use launch control in rFactor?

Thanks, I'll try that, although to be fair, I found the default one to be reasonable, just whack down the steering lock to 10 that's about it.

How do I use launch control in rFactor?

Come to a complete stop on the brakes, into neutral, hold down the launch control key or button (forward slash '/' by default), let go of the brake, apply full throttle, and when the lights go green, release the launch control key or button. The start is then fully automatic with clutch and throttle being managed until you're safely rolling.

Of course if you're on a completely level surface (so, not the Brands grid!) and steering straight you can still fall off the road as control reverts to manual and the revs build up, especially on cold tyres. But it will get you off the line very effectively without any risk of wild sideways motion as the rears light up. Shocked

Ah that's how you do it.

Put the car in neutral, hold the launch control button then just let go when the lights go green. Cool.

Just a note, with that setup you posted a link to, his 1st gear ratio stops Launch Control working as it just doesn't thave enough revs to go go go! I found I had to go down to 2.00 as 1st gear at least just to get any sort of decent launch control.

Wow! This mod just takes my breath away. Thoroughly enjoying it atm. The sense of speed is immense, the cars feel like real racing cars, but not so stupidly Formula 1 fast that they aren't easy enough to control. You can catch slides and what not and it really feels great. The engine sounds are great too, the way they scream up to top revs, just sound like proper little racing cars.

Finally I think there is a reason for rFactor and the feel is there. I guess it was in the engine somewhere, but needed a mod to let it out. Now if only a commercial games manufacturer would come along and make a proper game out of it with licensed tracks and these A1GP cars and it would be brilliant.

Downloaded a ton of tracks to go with it and ok their not Simbin/Blimey standards but massive selection and most pretty good quality. Driving round Melbourne in one of these cars is just frighteningly exhilarating.

Now I've got the launch control sussed I can actually start ok against the AI too. Was wondering how they were doing so well whilst I just spun wheels.  Grin

Yeah, that's the one thing about his base setup I had to change.

Been trying some of the mods/tracks combo as well and the Megane stuff, and the Bedford tracks, is the reason I'm hooked on rfactor at the mo. So many options that I haven't tried this one much but I'm glad its a better drive than F1 one, although the cars sound is fantastic in that. Nice to see the cynics, like me, proved wrong.

I'll be late but will make second race  Smiley. With no sneaky practice.

I've been getting into the 1:18s, occaisionally into the 17s on hard tyres; a 1:15 or 1:16 ought to be possible on softs but I haven't strung one together yet.
