Summary
Not a surprise to see Mercedes W196SL cars occupying the top 5 places, this is the circuit the car was designed for. Clive Loynes managed to grab the top spot from Gregory Taber with Phil Thornton following up in third place.

Server replay time: 0

Replay Time 0h02m28s
Lap 1 – Parabolica – Francesco Molteni and Tagomago
Francesco turns into Parabolica at his normal pace and normal line. Tagomago leaves his braking too late (possibly exacerbated by the draft down the long straight) and he cannot slow down enough to avoid rear-ending Francesco.

Francesco did nothing wrong.

Tagomago must shoulder total responsibility for this incident.

Good to see you Syd.

I believe that some drivers lost laps and that the results will need altering.  Could someone please let me know so that I can update GPLWeekly?

Ta

Great fun tonight and no Evil in sight!!!

Nope, just watched replay and Bastian and me stopped after 16, what a mor….  Grin
We were so busy to pass the s/f line side by side that we didn't care there wasn't the flag, I think Bastian like me watched Pribluda that count 0 when you pass in front of pitbox. He stopped just after  the start, I for security went on till box, the I saw the flag waving and stopped when Pribluda said 0 laps, but there was half lap to do on the oval still. So we lost two places after an intense race with Jonny too that crashed at 2 to go trying to do a 3 side by side.
Sorry Bastian for Para lap13, I closed too much, I lost count were you were aside. And sorry to Jonny at lap 13 too when I move aside without watching you coming, Luckily on both occasions all went good.  angel

If you think you lost a lap please post here and I'll correct the results.

Great race for me. Had a race long duel with Doni and Dulima. Very close and very fair racing. A tactical race in the end, very few mistakes from anyone so it was a matter of making the most of the slipstream on the last lap.  scooter

lap lost here....great race tried to stay with the mercs....even i had some contact at the start, saw at the replay..someone pused a car into mine...
i went wide to avoid the yellow car. i could battle enrique one lap but he went down too early in the banking...i was lucky and survived...lost connection to the tow....

In the end fulvio and jonny approached....sorry jonny but there was no real space left...quite dangerous...fulvio won by 0,02. Smiley

EDIT: Not really Fulvio Huh how stupid are we.....

So sorry for ruining your race team mate of lancia ... lost control of gpl just before hitting you ...  Smiley  .. its been a gpl crash to desltop ... sorry
Happen to do error but you must understand that ,this season,i'm traumatized by the suffered incident. At the incident i must add engine explosion (1 in the 55) and technical problems with my steering wheel,so the result is that on 7 races only one was finished without the problems listed.
The same with the others series where the 66 is the worst(only one race with point).
With the last trauma i don't know if i can return to race. Now ,any time, the  thought is:useless to engage a race since something happen that don't allow me to finish.

P.S:also my GPL was gone in freeze but anyway there was no other to do.

Grats to the Silver Arrows Display Team for a dominating performance and to Group Captain Loynes for leading the formation. My team mate Doni was in there holding up the honour of Blue Moose too  Wink

I considered long and hard, well for about 5 minutes whilst I had a coffee  Roll Eyes, whether I should go for one of the Mercs ( never raced one of those, so no setup ) or a Lancia (  which I have used a couple of times ) or to take a slower car and gear it for slipstream?  Eventually I decided to save some tokens for tracks where there are more real corners  Wink.
I tried the Gordini, but although the car can be geared to be fast once rolling, the little snail is so slow off the grid that any hope of a slipstream is gone before you can hook up. My favourite Connaught, just seems unable to run at the speeds of the Merc even with a tow. So next on the list was the Vanwall, not a car I have used before, but I spent about 30 mins beating the thing into submission and trying to cure random instability under braking and bizarre understeer mid corner. By the time the race started I still had problems but was getting times of mid 2:48's on a clear track.
In an ideal world I was hoping to at least make a cameo appointment in Clive's mirrors if I could get off the grid quickly and attach a tow rope to a silver tow truck. My plan was to simply get towed around for 17 laps...…simples  Grin
The start from the back of the grid went well and I picked up a couple of places, a car got out of shape in Curve Grande and I gained another place or two and I was tantalisingly close to the train of Mercs as we approached Lesmos, where I knew my Vanwall would be a little quicker and I might just be able to get into the slipstream on the exit of Lesmo 2.
But, there is always a "but" and this time it was Bastian's Lancia  Undecided He was between me and the first Merc and he was a little tentative through Lesmos and I could not gain the metres that I had hoped for, but at least I had the tow from the Lancia down to Parabolica.
Then it all went horribly wrong in the braking zone  Undecided, Bastian braked much earlier than I was expecting and it caught me out, because I jumped hard on the brakes when he slowed it cooked my brakes instantly and, although I might have made the corner on a clear track, it was obvious that I was about to take Bastian into the gravel with me if I tried. So I turned left and went into the gravel losing any chance to catch the fast gang.
The rest of the race was a good few laps dicing with Ricardo in his Ferrari. I was quicker, but once I got in front I was giving Ricardo the benefit of my slipstream and I just could not shake him off until he made a mistake. Up ahead I could see Fulvio and Bastian, along with Jonny J and I was just hoping that they would slow each other and allow me to get into battle with them. (Paul was running last but too far back to work together with slipstream.)
But it was not to be, and I ran the last 50% on my own in 10th place...not in the script on the start grid  Undecided. But then when I crossed the line I noticed that I had somehow been promoted to 6th place???
I see now that Bastian and Fulvio mis-counted the laps and dropped out too soon? Thank you guys, that improved my position considerably lol.

Generally quite happy with taking a slow car and saving the tokens as it gives me more options for the remaining races and the run in to the end of the season. Bring it on...... Grin

Ripper of a time with Phil & Eddie on the high-banks!  That was fun.  I lost my chance for a podium with a light brush of the guardrail in the last banking which scrubbed off a fraction of speed that I needed to ace Phil at the line.  Lost out by 15/1000 of a seconds.  Grrr...  Top marks to Phil, tho.  He drove well and a podium was fully deserved.  Eddie...Dulima to you...was well in the hunt til the last lap when a wide swing through the Curva Grande cost him time and the chance to make it a three-way toe-to-toe at the line.  Bad luck there but a good drive nonetheless.

Rather miffed to learn that Raoni qualified a car he was not eligible to run and then to have him bungle the Curva Grand off the start and cause me to run wide and slow to miss him.  This let Clive, Greg, Ricky and Eddie to break away and for all intents and purposes, my hopes of running with the lead serial was over.  Thanks, Ray.

Astonished to see that both Ricky and Bastian called it quits a lap early.  Bad luck, fellas.  Great luck for Evil!  Smiley

Terrific job and pace by both Clive and Greg to vie for the win.  Grats to Clive on the victory!

Congrats Mr. Loynes! You drove a good race; wise, patient, considerate, and sly. Smiley

Clive did well. I think he tried for a long time to play me for a sucker, thinking I would hand him an easy win. Even though I went off at Parabolica 3 or 4 times, it wasn't Clive that got me to do that. It was constantly testing the limits of my brakes and cornering. Winning wouldn't have been any more fun than flogging my the car way I did. Smiley Clive did make me mad at myself. I should have been a little more conservative so I gave myself a better chance to win.

That's a shame Fulvio and Bastian were tricked by Pribluda. I was confused too. For a few laps I couldn't remember how many laps the race was. I knew the laps completed was correct and I finally remembered it was 17 laps because I remembered 17 X 1.2 gallons might not be enough to finish. I actually used less fuel than that. Setting 5th gear longer for the race must have saved some fuel and I saved some fuel behind Clive. I finished with 2.5 gallons. I wish I hadn't had that extra 2 gallons. Otherwise, my brakes may have handled Parabolica a little better and my car might have been a little better racing to the line with Clive. Clive's gearing was working well in the last banking and to the line. Not practicing Parabolica with marginal brakes was another mistake. After my 2nd off I started thinking I should downshifted to 1st once I got in trouble. That may have kept me on the track. Unfortunately I never shifted to 1st until I was off the track.

Thanks for the fun guys. I appreciate it.

Ripper of a time with Phil & Eddie on the high-banks!  That was fun.
Yes it was a great race with a memorable finish. For lap after lap, the three of us traded places as I tried to work out a strategy. The first thing was to make sure I didn't go off at the Parabolica, which is very easy to do with some extra speed due to the draft!

As we started the last lap I was leading out of Parabolica and I decided to stay on the inside and force Eddie to take the outside line because I figured a pass on the outside would be harder to judge (on virtually every preceding lap the lead car was passed on the inside at Curva Grande) because none of us had practiced that line. Sure enough, Eddie ran a bit wide and I held the place.

Doni was hunting me down for the rest of the last lap but I expected he would save his move until the last banking. On most of the previous laps the car following on the back straight had such a massive draft that it was easy to dive up the inside at the last banking and hold the lead until the line. I knew I'd be a sitting duck if I let Doni have the inside line, so I stayed right and forced Doni to take the outside line. It is a bit harder and you have to get it exactly right to complete the overtake. I took a very tight line to give Doni room and nervously watched my left view. As we crossed the line I had no idea who got there first. Doni shot past but luckily for me it was inches beyond the finishing line.

I was pleased with the server, we were able to race closely with no lag issues as far as I could tell. Unless anyone else had issues?

really frustrating as i could keep up with the mercedes....why does the map designer diplay the boards on the wrong "start/finish" line ?
thats where pribluda reacts....

You must move the pitboard to ~400m past the line in your track.ini, else it is counted at the pits by pribluda

LOL  Thank you for those kind words Greg.   Grin

It was good fun.  Having not managed to reach Curva Grande ahead of you off the line I was quite content to sit behind you for the whole race, apart from the last bit of the last lap.  However, it was lap three when your Merc first displayed its natural tendency to reverse into Parabolica.  After that I thought that I would try to offer you as many "non-preferred" approaches to corners that I could arrange.   Grin

Keeping the pressure on was the other part of the strategy but you managed that yourself.  You caught me very quickly and I thought that your brakes must be on the edge.

There was nobody else close enough to bother us so we had a nice private battle.

Now that I have spent my token advantage over Evil, I guess that I shall also have him to contend with over the next three races but at least I got what I wanted from my big spend.  After the disaster of the previous round I thought that my chances of taking the overall prize were gone, so thanks to Phil for highlighting that the fight is still on.

Great drive Clive, and I had to recover a few tokens somewhere as, for me, there are too many high speed tracks in this series where managing the brakes is less important than outright power and speed.

I am holding the Mighty Connaught in reserve, ready to unleash it at the optimum moment.  Grin

I actually did something for this championship that I have NEVER done before....I created a simple spreadsheet that tracks the token spend/residue through each round depending which chassis is selected in any race. It was quite helpful in making my choice for Monza, as it allowed me to see what the benefits/options were, in future races, by taking the Vanwall over blowing everything on a Lancia or Merc.

What is happening to me!!??  scared scared am I beginning to take this simracing seriously???  wacko wacko wacko

The last 3 races will be fun and looking at the points table it is by no means a 2 horse race, a DNF from any of the top 4 could change everything!!  oooo!! the stressful life of a modern simracer??  Roll Eyes
