Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 184s

This is a tricky incident to moderate, in the event that only Mark and Fabri were involved it would be fairly clear cut and easy to moderate.
However, in this case the incident was complicated somewhat by the addition of Barone who had opportunistically snuck inside of Mark's car while entering Cimini 1.

In the Replay Fabri can be seen taking avoiding action to avoid rear-ending the car in front when braking into Cimini, he then traverses the outside of the corner and avoids the racing line in doing so - Cimini 2 has a gravel trap to the outside of it's exit so Fabri moves to rejoin before this aiming around the apex of Cimini 2.
He can be seen to leave room on the inside at Cimini 2 for any car on the racing line to fill at this point.

So far this is all good and by-the-book.

Unfortunately what Fabri cannot see in his mirrors, is the fact that the car behind is actually 2 cars - Mark and Barone - who are side by side at this point. As a result the gap left is not big enough and Fabri's line through Cimini 2 results in Contact with Mark at the Apex.

The rules state that "a driver who spins or otherwise departs from normal circulation of the circuit bears primary responsibility for rejoining the race safely."
and goes on to state that:
"Where practical, rejoining drivers should avoid taking the racing line or crossing the track until back up to speed."
and also:
"A driver who is approaching a rejoining car should be prepared to alter their line or slow slightly to take account of the rejoiner."

Fabri had left room to the inside but was unsighted to the cars behind, and could not know in time to react that approaching traffic was 2 wide - conversely Mark could not be expected to avoid Fabri's car with such short notice when he already had a car to his inside and was himself at full throttle.

Considering the circumstances mentioned above for this incident, and the rules and penalty guidelines of SROU regarding rejoins, I feel that this particular incident is best judged as a racing incident.

Advice: If mirrors or the 'look back' function do not give a clear view of approaching cars, then drivers should take care to ensure there is as much room as possible to allow drivers who are on the track space to race and/or take avoiding action. On lap 1 or the early stages of a race more room might be required as battles are more likely to be occurring through the field.

Has a scoring system for this series been setup in LM2? or are these a set of non-champ events?

I should be seeing something here https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=LM2R&group=1001&theme=4

Don't know what you're talking about  whistling

In fairness nobody had mentioned that this wasn't automatic and I hadn't noticed anything saying it had to be done manually elsewhere Embarrassed
I've just performed my usual last-minute, logical 'best guess' approach to sorting the rules.
Providing I've not missed anything else then we're all good for Wednesday provided I manage not to mess the skin pack up Grin

Sorry but it's not "automatic". I'll send you a pm.

Edit: looks like it's already been done.

Skin pack now released! See top post.
Server should be updated with the new liveries etc once I've eaten in an hour or 2 Wink

Bob: What do you need the car to do/not do? From the point of handling on these old beasties all you really have is spring rates, ride height, and some diff settings.
In general, making an axle softer (springs & shocks) gives it more grip, although that can also increase roll and make the car slower to react. Higher diff percentages give more grip, but when you exceed the limit they tend to want to drive the way I normally do  Grin

Raising the rear height relative to the front will make the car less stable under braking and acceleration, lowering it can make the car less keen to swap ends.
Expect some drifting regardless of setup on these - drift can be made more controllable with positive front toe (toe out) - just check the tool tip in setup which way the slider has to go to achieve this. I'm sure I've seen some cars where negative somehow equates to 'out' - so make sure I've given you the right value to chase!

I assume we still want to have the Alfa skin pack we used in the test races installed?

We didn't have any skin packs for the test races Huh
You'll only need the skin pack for the season which I've uploaded in the race announcement.

Very un-impressed with the red Alfa that decided to rejoin the track at full chat diagonally into the side of me at turn 3 on lap 1 and causing a 3-4 car pile up  Angry. What were you thinking? . Dropped to near the back with major damage. Struggled on for about 20mins only to get a disco  taz
Great first round  hang
