Season 36 1967F1 – Round 10 –  Zandvoort - Juniors

Season 36 is a joint series between GPL Brazil and UKGPL. This post is for the Junior division.
Welcome to the final round of Season 36. We finish the season in the Netherlands at Zandvoort, a Papyrus original track. Regular GPL drivers will know that exploring the sand dunes is a nice way to spend a day at the beach but not recommended during a motor race. Isn’t Holland supposed to be flat?
Good luck to all.

Server = UKGPL10
IP = 217.155.118.41
Race date = Sunday 7 June 2020
Time = starts no later than 21.00 UK time.
Track =  Papyrus original
Race length = 33 Laps (50 minutes)
Variant = 1967
60fps patch used 60fpsV2newmod
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qualifying time = 30-45 minutes
Replay = here

The Juniors championship has Intermediate damage model. Every driver is permitted one reset. Each reset (irrespective of fault) must be followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane within two laps of the incident. If a reset is required on the last lap a time penalty will be added. Failure to take a Stop & Go will result in a time penalty. Any driver taking a more than one Reset will be disqualified..
This season, races are to be run at 60 frames per second – please use the 60 fps patch

Driver lists and divisional rules including rules on car selection can be found on the Championship Standings page

There is no Red Zone. Moderating will be on reported incidents only. Remember that lap 1 incidents carry an additional penalty place.

  Please.
   I need to design the helmet of the driver who has a chance of winning the championship and also of those who have already won a race in this joint championship with GPLBrasil https://gplbrasil.webnode.com/_files/200000496-397f1397f4/campe%C3%B5es%20gplbrasil%20JUNIOR%2030%20bmp.JPG
 , to put the image on our champions board and the winners board. https://gplbrasil.webnode.com/_files/200000503-674e0674e2/wins%20junior%20t30.JPG

   Pilots who still don't have their helmet painted let me know how I would like it.

That was a very competitive race, the qualifying times were very close. The championship is very close too, we'll have to wait until all the bonus points have been added up to see who has won.

The race itself was OK, I was doing reasonably well in the opening laps but I started making mistakes and I had to pack in at about 1/3 distance to take a "comfort break". I shouldn't have drunk a glass of cordial before the race!

Grats to Axel on a dominant win and to Eric and David on fine drives and exactly the same fastest lap. Don't see that very often.

Thanks Phil,
wasn't expecting to stand this distance but with 3 laps to go I decided to finish...
I am not a friend of Zandy and would have lost a litre of sweat less if I had taken a Lotus.

Eric had a good pressure on me what kept my adrenaline high Wink

If I am not mistaken Andreas is our new champion, followed by Eric !

Yes but there are 6 Bonus points unaccounted for, does Eric have any pole positions or fastest laps in the unmoderated races?

I qualified 5th in the Ferrari, but so close were the 3rd through 8th qualifiers that you could have covered them with a queen-sized sheet. I followed David R through T1 after the green flag with Billy hot on my heels. Ahead of us were Axel, leading the pack, Eric, and Phil. Nothing changed until L11 when Phil slid up the hill at T1, letting David and me through. Zandvoort is unforgiving this way, isn't it? Six inches makes the difference between having a pleasant glass of wine after the race or having grim memories for the next six months.

For the next couple of laps I set about trying to make David's life as miserable as possible, only to drift sloppily to the left at the right-hander coming out of Jan de Wyker. I'd always been trapped with that mistake by having the car stay in the sand to the left, but not this time. The car slid perversely back across the track to the right and into the fence. From the moment I began to lose control until the moment I finally had it back in hand, I'd had wasted an eternity of 25 seconds and had dropped from 4th to 8th. Yeah, I'll be thinking about that one until next December, as least.

Somehow I managed to retrieve my brain and put it back in the car. In the next 14 laps I crawled back up to 6th, now pressuring Andreas as hard as I'd earlier clung to David. Together we began to reel in Billy, then watched happily as he too went wide in T1 on L27. But Billy caught me at the hairpin two turns later and we touched. I'm asking the administrators to review that contact because I think I may have been at fault. The difference was that I was able to hold onto 5th place for the final six laps, and that appears to have put me into a tie with Dave Curtis for 5th overall in the season standings. I may not be deserving of that.

Still, this is the best finish I've had in this league since I joined five years ago. Things seemed to change for me with the Willow Springs race, where Phil and I went at it hammer and tong for endless laps. I have since been doing something that I was not doing before --- going in more slowly and coming out more quickly, maybe? --- but it seems to be unconscious. In the last nine days I've gone from a GPL Rank of +5.07 to -6.60. I think my participation here has had something to do with it, and for that I am once again grateful for being able to run with you guys. Season 37 can't come too soon for me.  Smiley

Finished the season according to the rest.I have touched the green at the Tarzan with the rear wheel and i was in spin.After the spin i was worried to cause an incident with the cars behind and with the manouver out of the track I ended up hovering on the curb.So shift-r.
After this my steeringwheel have lost the FB but was possible to continue.Unfortunately,in front of me,Hallu go in spin into the Tarzan.I was not able to avoid the crash and my car ended up overturned,worthy end of the season.Now i want to see the other categories laugh

I knew I had to win the race! I tried, but no! Axel was faster, more stable than me! What makes Andreas win the championship! WELL DONE! The proof that stability leads further than vistories! Well done again!

"Slow-in fast-out" is quicker than "fast-in slow-out" but not as good as "fast-in fast-out"  Grin

Grats on the race Pepe, you have indeed got noticeably quicker over this season.

From my perspective this was an enjoyable race. Even with a couple of minor trips to the grass I was able to stay in the midfield pack for the whole race. Slightly annoyed to catch a wheel on the grass in the final turn a few laps from the end, otherwise I might have finished fourth.
Looks like a good choice of track to finish the season as the qualifying times & fastest laps were pretty close.
Not a successful season on my part but having a separate Privateers grid meant most drivers were in with a shout of some sort of result.
Subject to moderating it seems the championship will go to Andreas - not often this can be achieved without winning a race. It goes to show how important consistency can be. This also means that Black Night took the team championship, so I should thank Dave & David for their contributions.

I guess most of us have written off our holiday plans this year so you'll be happy to learn that UKGPL will be back in a months time. Watch out for the registration threads.

Bad start after being rear ended going into T1 , then tried to go too hard,  too soon , to get back in with the race rear ending PaulV at the end of the straight , (sorry mush) .I was glad to see Paul could recover OK and catch me up because we then had a good old race together , I made a few errors , so did Paul , the worst  being I had the wrong race set up on,  Numpty ! !
In the end it was very close as Paul mounted a big attack in the last few laps , I could just about hold it together for the finish .  Paul has to be the moral victor due to my forthcoming penalty . great racing at times .
Thanks

Grats to the Podium and commiserations  to all who dropped out on the long road to the flag   Roll Eyes

Mod report now published.

A very closely fought season. Congratulations to Andreas who narrowly wins the championship from Eric. Despite not winning a race, consistency by scoring in every round made the difference.
David Rainier finished third, just a few points adrift.
