Season 36 - 69x Trophy – Round 10 - Nürburgring

Nürburgring

The last race in the S36 - 1969x Grand Prix series takes us to the Nürburgring-Nordschleife in Germany.  It has enjoyed a reputation as a terrifying and merciless route through the Eifel forest. An English journalist who visited the Nordschleife during the opening race on 18 June 1927 concluded “that it seemed as if a reeling, drunken giant had been sent out to determine the route”. The Formula 1 driver Jackie Stewart – a three-time world champion in 1969, 1971 and 1973 – was so impressed by the circuit that he gave it the name it will probably never lose: the Green Hell (Grüne Hölle). Racing and winning on the Nordschleife has always been very special for racing drivers, because the track is one of the most demanding in the world. Tricky corners, treacherous crests, steep inclines and gradients and constantly changing road surfaces demand great skill from the drivers and provides the cars with a very hard test.

I'm having some bothers getting the mod to fire.  Probably a sound issue.  Kicked back to iGOR when trying to load a track.  I might be a DNE.  Sad

It will probably be your season.ini file. Just have Nurby in your season69 file.

Or it could be the graphics. 69 mod uses v1 rasterizers

Success!  Smiley

Your suggestion of v1 rasterizers apparently was the problem, Phil.  I've used v2newmod since forever and never had a problem til today.  A bit of a head-scratcher.  I must look further into this.  In any event, it's running OK offline and I even joined the server successfully.

Many thanks for the tip!  Smiley

Very hard race, concentration was maximum in these cars on this track. Had a titanic battle with David which was a worthy climax to a very close season. Pleased to see Doni finished in the Eagle. Grats to Uli on an amazing pace up front.

My race end with a valve problem on the final straight and i was in the completion of my best lap with a possible 9:05 never done before.
Perhaps, with some other lap, could be possible to reach a time under 9 min that for mr is an event.
Compliments to all but compliments to Phil for the great upgrade, where is your secret?
One curiosity:i'm the only one withdrawn from the race for mechanical problems?

Again a very special race for me. Why?
In 1969 Vic Elford drove the private McLaren M7B in the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring and had an accident in the Wippermann area on the first lap when he collided with a wheel of Mario Andrettis Lotus 63 lying on the track. Only one year later he won the 1000 km race in a Porsche 908, in which he was not slower.
Quick Vic celebrates his 85th birthday TODAY !! HAPPY BIRTHDAY VIC !!
I'm proud that I managed to get you remembered.  Grin
There is not much to say about my race, everything was fine and under control, I am just happy.
Big hand to you Greg and Andreas, nice to be on the podium with you.
Congratulations also to Phil for the vice champion and Tristan for the 3rd place in the championship and a BIG THANK YOU to Axel and Phil for organizing and administrating the championship.

Yes this 69x season was very exciting from start to the end.
The freeze in Brno just before mid-race and the accident I had with Francesco (I was responsible) at Le Mans and with Bastian at Wegberg, took away any hope to win the junior title.

This is the first time I have used 69 cars with a high wing angle. Most of my other races were high speed circuits with almost zero wing. I was surprised by how much extra grip was available but I didn't get best use from it because I kept reverting to my 1967 driving style.
I lost a wheel on the 4th lap - which was enough Nürburgring for one evening. One day I should find the time to learn these beasts properly.
My greatest respect to Doni in the wingless baby Eagle - he was matching my pace in the first couple of laps. Everyone else cluttered off except Clive who seem intent on using his Brabham to remodel the scenery.

Grats to Uli and Phil on the respective trophies.

I was not feeling 100% for this race and the Nürburgring is hardly an easy drive at any time, so I wanted to start at the back of the grid and not try and force myself into working too hard.
I lost all of my setups recently when I had to re-install Win 10, so during qualifying I worked on getting the Brabham sorted. By the time the race started I had a setup that was 75% towards where I wanted it, but still not perfect. I was running a high wing angle and actually had to back it off a few degrees at the end of qualifying as the car was just too responsive and twitchy. Billy is quite right, that with a bucketful of wing these cars produce enormous grip levels and exploiting that grip is the key. I guess that was something that the real drivers discovered back in 1969??

Another 20 minutes of setup time might have given me the car that I wanted, but I had to go with what I had. The car was great when accelerating, but the brake balance and corner entry were still an adventure at times, which is why Billy saw me trimming grass and shrubbery a few times. Sorry to see Bill drop out after I had passed him ( again ).
Once that I stopped using the brakes my speed increased but all of those corners simply proved too much for my left shoulder and I decided to play safe and park the car, although it was still undamaged.

Grats to Doni for bringing home the Wingless Eagle, that sounds kinda wrong?? Does'nt that make it a Dodo??

Congratulations to Uli on a fine win.  Blistering pace here at 'The Green Hell'.  Great jobs by Greg and Andreas to score podiums.  Admirable.

I had a great time in the Pease Castrol Eagle.  My goal was simply to finish and with luck, cut a new PB in that chassis.  Made it on both counts.  Shaved 4/10 of a second off my previous best.  LOL!  A lotta hard work for that!

I saw Al Pease race at Mosport many a time in the early and mid 1960's.  A fast a competent club racer.  Alas, somewhat out of his depth in an obsolete Grand Prix car.  Why did I use it here at the Nurb?  Well, I hate wings on racing cars.  They belong on birds and airplanes.

Thanks for organizing and letting me join this last round.
