Season 37 Fun Race –  Silverstone

As a few drivers appear undecided about the GP length races, before Season 37 gets underway we will be hosting another endurance race. This time 60 laps of the original Papyrus track at Silverstone on full ‘Grand Prix’ settings with the 67 original car set. If that sounds long don’t forget the real race was 80 laps.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE
The race will last approximately 90 minutes.
Drivers can set their refuelling strategy but are requested to take a minimum of 1 fuel stop.
Recommended you try out the refuel patch before race day.
On GP settings if you crash in practice your qualifying session is over.
Slightly different start times to accommodate the longer event – the race itself will start at 9pm UK time, with a minimum of 20 minutes qualification from 8.40.
Pro standard drivers are asked not to take the Lotus or the Eagle.

Server = UKGPL 8
IP = See IGOR
Race date = Tuesday 30 June 2020
Time = RACE no later than 21.00 UK. Qualifying, no later than 20.40
Track =  Papyrus
Race length = 60 Laps (90 minutes)
Variant = 1967
60fps patch used 60fpsV2newmod
Damage Model = Grand Prix
Qualifying time = 20 minutes minimum.

Races are to be run at 60 frames per second – please use the 60 fps patch.

It’s a fun race – try out Teamspeak.

Link to the Refuelling patch (GPL Pitstop Patch = V2 incl tire wear!) http://gplmotorworks.gplworld.de/
pitstop patch for fuel only is V1 get it http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=10007&#entry100829

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Just to clarify, is there one mandatory pit stop with or without refuel?

A little complain about timing, last GP test race I couldn't join cause the server was mutating and I think that it will be the same tomorrow with an early start time.

I like long races, even if they are a killer for my bad eyes, but I'm afraid to couldn't join in time for the start.

Refueling is your choice in the series, I testet in Spa a single stop.

It didn't pay! I had gained 15 seconds to midrace and then 85liter refuel cost 30 sec
so Tris passed me with same fuel 15 sec before my rejoin, so no chance to catch up...

Yep, but for this race it says:

A request to do something means just that , its not compulsary afaik .

I think Axel would like us all to be  guinea pigs to test viability for future races ?

Does that mean it's possible to fill for 60 laps (well - minus a couple for being lapped!) then opt to have a stop & go, without filling up?

OK my answer was opted to the GP season and what should be calculated there.

Dave it could be interesting close...

Remember:
It will allways be filled up to the start fuel!
So if you find it would not be enough fuel for the last 2 laps, you get the 160liter filled!
No splash and dash Grin

The maths favours a zero stop strategy, if your tank will hold that much fuel. Silverstone has more of a defined pit lane than Spa & will take longer.
As per the race post there is a request a minimum of 1 fuel stop. It's a fun race so it won't be monitored in any way but so we have a fair contest I would expect everyone to come into the pit lane & stop in their own box at least once.
I did a two stop at Spa which did cost time.

After qualifying I was looking forward to a long duel with Axel, but he blew his engine on lap 2  Undecided Very unlucky Axel.

But it did not make much difference to me as I had accidentally loaded pitstop patch V2.0!!! which includes tyre wear  Shocked I discovered this unfortunate fact at around Lap 5 when I suddenly had zero grip!! managed to get to the pits and take fresh rubber, which dropped me a long way back and when I emerged I tried to catch Bernie, Phil and Billy, but I now knew that I only had 5 laps before the rubber wore out again.
I had them in sight but then the tyres dissolved again and it was a hopeless exercise to continue.

A dumb mistake from me, but maybe a warning to check which pitstop patch is ticked in GEM...then check again lol!!!

The air in the cockpit must have been blue in when you realised what you had done Clive. Very unlucky.

The race was good for me apart from silly mistake at the start when I got too close to David and rear ended him. Thankfully it was a light tap and we could both continue apparently unscathed. After that it was a battle up through the field. My light fuel load meant I had to get on with it in order to build a gap because I didn't know who was going to pit and who wasn't. It turned out that Billy was on the same strategy as me and we both pitted around lap 30. We managed to keep the lead when we stopped so it looks like we did enough in the early laps to more than compensate for the time in the pits.

It would be interesting to know if anyone didn't pit for fuel because on these results it appears a single stop for fuel was the quickest strategy?

Yes Phil, there were one or two choice words muttered when the tyres expired on lap 5. For a while I wondered if my greater pace might just compensate for what looked like being 11 pitstops in a 60 lap race!!  But 16 secs in the pits every 5 laps was never going to work...and it didn't!!

Congratulations to Andreas on his "500"  punk punk

60 laps goes surprisingly quickly & requires lots of concentration. Silverstone is a track where you can build a good rhythm & I quite enjoyed the outing.
Second on the podium was a good result but that had something to do with Evil & Cookie having some troubles.
Phil was too quick for me & took a well deserved win. Once I worked out we were on the same refuel strategy I would be relying on him to make a mistake to have a chance.
Season 37 is just a few days away. If we had a couple more weeks we could have squeezed in a couple more 68 fun races - which seems a really good mod.
